Even if it can't compete with Yamaha's Quality of sounds, we still have to give credit to Donner for offering great value quotients for their Pianos, Beginners are in treat!
Thanks for this review but I just pulled the trigger and purchased a rock jam 88 key keyboard (for less than $200) using your affiliate link along with the two week trial Simply Piano app. You reviewed that keyboard about 3 years ago. I’d still go with the rock jam today because it’s still much cheaper than the Donner. Nonetheless, thank you so much for all the effort you put into your reviews and I hope using the affiliate links helps you out some.
That's a pretty good buy for the price for what it is, appearance and decently good sounds. Personally, for the price, I would get a Roland Go:Keys 3 but willing to spend $500 on the Go:Keys 5 with the upgraded features and get almost an FP-E50 less the 88 weighted keys at half the price. And that's an amazing deal. But when I need an 88 note weighted keyboard, it would be between the FP-E50 and the new RD-08 stage piano, which can be upgraded to an RD-88 via a $300 software upgrade. If I have the Go:Keys, I may not need the arranger functions of the FP-E50, so the RD-08 would be a great alternative choice for now $100 more. Surprisingly, the FP-E50 is almost 10 pounds heavier than the RD-08. But the PH-A4? action is one of the best and most popular for digital pianos and keyboards in the price range. But yes, the Go:Keys 5 has slightly better speakers, Mic input jack with vocal effects/harmonies/vocorder, expression pedal, pitch bend wheel and dual ¼" audio out jacks for $150 more than the Go:Keys 3. The Casio CT-S500 is another great arranger keyboard for $380 with great sounds, pitch bend wheel and also dual ¼" audio output jacks. It's basically like a Prosumer update for what is desired in the CT-S1, though the latter is still a great keyboard for what it is for the price.
In my opinion if you can it's best to start out on weighted keys than starting on semyweighted keys then having to adjust to weighted keys. Even 73 weighted keys makes more sence vs 88 semyweighted keys🎹🎶
@@Mokaxino sorry for the late reply. Sadly I'm not familiar with anything in that price range. My comment was mostly for people who can stretch for a Yamaha P225, Yamaha P145, Kawai ES120, Roland FP30X, Roland FP10, but is considering this because it looks nicer🎹🎶
Hi Jeremy, I currently have a CT-S300, do you think the Donner would be a good upgrade? i've been hitting a wall with my CT-S300 since its only 61 keys, and the Donner seems to be good value. Thank you!
I have no previous musical experience, do you think I should stick with 88key or just buy a low budget 61 key? Also in 88key category which would be best between Roland fp10, Yamaha p145 , p225 , Casio s160, s1100(alessis,korg not available in India, also rolands are pretty much unavailable in most places )??
For a student, 73 keys is plenty, But the cheap 73-key pianos have disappeared. The most important thing for a serious student is having a good weighted action, preferably graded. 61-key keyboards never have this. I don't even call those digital pianos - they are just keyboards. If your budget is tight, consider the Kurzweil KaE1-LB, the Alesis Prestige, the Yamaha P-145 and the Roland FP-10. All of these have 88 keys, an aspect which is currently unavoidable on the models currentlyl manufactured. But if you find an old stock Yamaha P-121 (73 keys) at a discounted price, this is a great buy.
Sounds fine now when it’s new but I would never ever buy one. No music stores will take Donner or Williams or Alesis keyboards or pianos in trade or consignment. Quality is poor and they are generally worthless junk after 2-3 years. Broken keys, failed electronics. Most Yamahas Korgs and even Casios last several years and hold some value. These simply do not. Just because it’s “affordable” when new doesn’t mean it’s a good value.
Thanks for your time Jeremy and videos. My daughter (8y) is going to learn piano/keyboard. I saw your videos (88k/affordab/etc) . My question is if a MIDI 61 with sensitivity keys are an option?
Consider the Kurzweil KaE1-LB. £345 in the UK. Hammer action and weighted keys from a reputable brand. Also, if you like Alesis (I do too) there is the Alesis Prestige which improves quite a bit on the Recital models, even though it has no screen.

It's always so weird to me that keyboards still have such cheesy bad drum sounds and rhythms in this day and age. There are so many REALLY good drum samples available now that are affordable. It can't be that hard or expensive to put good sounding drums in these anymore...
Because it's not. Not unless you realy can't stretch for a proper digital piano with weighted keys. Buying 88 keys is pointless if they aren't weighted🎹🎶
