I love how this episode goes into such detail about the grizzly murder that was committed. I know they didn’t show blood or anything but It’s crazy they were able to get away with such vivid and descriptive words. Like the amount of times they say being hacked to death!
I think it's the 'show don't tell' mentality/loophole. The creators can imply all they want but because it's up to the audience to make it scary they can get away with a lot.
I wanted to scream when Harold said "Girls get scared too easy" since *he* was the one freaking out by the cemetery; he was probably scared Helga wouldn't lose her mind before he did.
While Helga was justified in trying to scare the ever-loving bejeezus out of the gang, Curly was close to BONKING them with the mallet, for simply not getting to tell the story! He woke up and chose violence!
The episode with 4 eyed Jack got me. Still creeps me out. The bit about Helga being too boyish for the girls and she’s a girl to the boys was legit my adolescence. I, however, turned to video games lol
@PestoMayo you could see helga's bedroom of rag dolls and hearts as her parents just bought her whatever because they dont actually know helga. I mean the parents are the ones purchasing stuff at age 9
The last two "paranormal" episodes, Wheezin Ed and Four-Eyed Jack pull the same twist. Its actually rather delightful. This and the Headless Cabbie are equally frightening mostly because of the implications.
This show definitely doesn't pull any punches with heavy themes. Yes, they do it in kid friendly ways and you may not realize what they're going for when you watch these episodes through the eyes of a kid, but when you grow up, you realize exactly what the writers are trying to say. Helga's mom is an alcoholic, chocolate boy is the PS 118 drug addict with his addiction to chocolate, and this episode straight up features, an ax murder! Blood and guts may not have been shown, but she went full slasher movie on those two! Love it!
To me, this was the most realistic scary HA episode but the one about the headless cabbie always gets me at the very end. That lady's laugh. It's so sinister and evil. Props to the voice actress who disrespected her larynx to swing it on home for us.
This was the most graphic of the "horror" episodes with its flash back. That alone adds to the scare factor, but the ending of with Curly just freaked me out when I was younger. It's funny that they were more mad at Curly than Helga for pulling the prank. I agree with you, I love how these episodes give that twist ending that the legend may actually be real. Maybe Curly needs to visit Dr. Bliss, as we've seen, he's a ticking time bomb and it leads you to wonder what kind of home life Thadeous "Curly" Gammelthorpe really has. Thank you for covering this one, it's my favorite spooky Hey Arnold episode. Just one thing, has anyone else noticed how when they tell these tales, it's always the "Anniversary" of what ever happened? Great video.
This is still the creepiest episode to me. I still can't hear the wedding March without getting chills and it shows that anything can be scary in the right context. I was happy to see an upload from you when I went on my break from work
I never understood why the ghost bride still haunts the cemetery in the story. She got her revenge right? Shouldn’t she be resting peacefully after that?😭 Excellent video per usual!
Not to sound overly religious but she committed 2 sinful acts, murder and suicide. so as a punishment from God and Satan she is doomed to walk the cemetery in limbo....in one way I see 2 inspirations of the Ghost Bride, the obvious one being Lizzie Borden who killed her parents with an axe and the second one being la llorona (the weeping woman) who did a similar thing to the bride, but la llorona killed her children out of anger at her ex who left her after getting pregnant with his kids and immediately she regretted it and committed suicide to be united with them but because she killed the children and killed herself she was cursed to walk around the lake as a vengeful spirit.
I personally found the headless cabbie much scarier for me but this definitely was a scary episode Also, I definitely think Curly was just being petty and that he definitely gives me the vibe of a character who would probably grow up to be a school shooter or snap and become a serial killer

@Lawrence Rodriguez I understand, man. To me, when a character does a bad deed, they must either be defeated or redeem their self like Kevin from Home Alone. Not all characters deserve a bad day. Hey Arnold had some really scary ghost stories. Not just the Ghost Bride, but also the Headless Cabbie, and the Haunted Train. That makes these three episodes some of mine favorite ones. And also good Halloween shows to watch.
Love this episode for the detail of the murder (love them going into it like they did) and also, Cynthia's epitaph...that made me chuckle, especially what Arnold couldn't see.
Can we all just agree Curly needs some actual help. Like real help, therapy. Cause this isn't the first time he lost his mind over literally nothing. Yes he kinda got the crap end on this episode but people really need to stop hanging out with him. Less he feel slighted by something else you say or do and he outright plans their murder (Or makes them look guilty of one) If Curly didn't show up for any further episodes I might actually believe he was up and.. yea.
Urban Legends was always my favorite type of episode and this one was great! Personally, Haunted Train always got me much more for some reason, especially the creepy ghost singing at the end! This ones story is way better, though!
The one creepy episode from this show was the one of old owner of the boarding house that was a scientist that died in an bean explosion and lost his glasses. How it ended just freaked me out
This episode scared the shit out of me when I was a kid! I remember watching this at night before going to bed, a terrible choice...there was a large shadow of one of my dolls standing like a floating ghost! It scared me I wanted the light on, but then I would've saw the shadow and my mom kept coming in to turn the light off which scared me more. I didn't figure out where my doll was, ever since I never saw this episode again....
I actually think Four-Eyed Jack is the creepiest episode of Hey Arnold. Anything from Season 1 (and some episodes of Season 2) seemed to be stronger with the style of each episode (making most of the episodes very dark and ominous with the early animation), but the later seasons were stronger with the substance of the characters (making the tone and animation more lighthearted, but real and sentimental). That's why this is my all time favorite animated TV show that I grew up with.
Two things #1 Helga's prank was justified #2 the real scariest episode of hey Arnold was "Arnold visits Arnie" it was like a universe where everything is similar.
A very creepy moment from hey Arnold, was when pheobe cheated during her poetry competition. And the statue she won was haunting her. It's soulless eyes glared at her all night during a storm, as the statue said "cheater" over and over in pheobes mind. It was unnecessarily spooky! Haha
what made this really unsettling is that it was curly's final appearance in the series... many had actually speculated that the ghost bride killed him.....of course this was debunked when he ended up appearing in the jungle movie.
Of all the scary episodes, this one creeped me out the most because of how detailed they were telling how the story went. Helga was justified in her prank, did the boys not learn from not inviting her along before. Also Curly a creep and apetty snitch he deserved what he got!!!! You should watch the episode with Four Eyed Jack, now thats a good scary episode I always watch in every Halloween
I can't wait to watch the episode now! I'm watching a few episodes a day to enjoy it more and take my time through the series and my 1 and half yr old is glued to the TV every time it's on. I want him to grow up on all the good stuff and not the new stuff
The spooky laugh at the end of the Elk Island episode always gave me chills as a kid. And it still dose. Not to mention four-eyed Jack, poor Gerald had his wits scared out of him at the end of that one.
Hey Arnold was (still is) my favorite show! I loved THIS episode as well! I always felt for Curly 🤣😩 It was the way he stomped his foot, para me! LoL. 🤣😩
When I say this episode terrified me as a kid, I mean every time I woke up in the middle of the night I expected to see the ghost at the foot of my bed with an axe You just unlocked a primal childhood fear
I used to love all of the spooky episodes of Hey Arnold! Thank you for your continued trips down memory lane! Have you ever considered doing a video on the Rugrats All Grown Up camping episode?
Honestly this episode is NOTHING compared to other scary episodes like The Haunted train episode Or the episode where Sid had a germ nightmare Or when Arnold's cousin had friends that looked exactly like his friends Or The headless Caby episode Or the Four eyed Jack episode Or even the part in the journal episode where Stella screams as she gives birth to arnold while a valcano erupts outside. Man! They had ALOT of scary episodes! I had it GOOD during childhood! 😉
Well, there was only two episodes that came after Ghost Bride before the show got booted off of Nickelodeon along with many other shows. Curly probably would of came back if the show ran longer. Besides, he was in the Hey Arnold Jungle Movie.
Strangely enough we actually have a similar urban legend in my town, but it was the bride who was murder or committed suicide, no one to sure and actually case was never solved.
Curly fe appearing next episodes proves he did not fall victim. And Curly did a better job than Gerald as he forgot one of the important detail "the anniverasary".
I'd have to re watch the series as an adult but as a kid the episode about the glasses and the guy who used to live in the boarding house was the scariest
This episode holds such a special place in my heart! I was like five or six when i first watch it. When i was really young I used to be really prone to nightmares so I'd sleep on my parents floor to feel safe. One day i realized if the ghost bride came for me, she could chop up my parents just as easily as she could me....ah sweet childhood trauma xxx
Oh I was hoping you would do this one it’s one of my favorite episodes! I absolutely side with Helga on this one they deserve to have the crap scared out of them by her.
Hey Mr Shawn. First of all, I must give you a huge thank you for bringing some good memories of my childhood back. How I loved my afternoons of Cartoon watching, and I loved HeyArnold so much! I especially loved the Horror episodes. You see, I was ashamed for being the kinda dark sad kiddo who appreciated that gloomy stuff. Today I don't have this shame anymore. I could realize I was a lonely child who could not have a friendly shoulder to talk to. Now, out of the Therapy Couch, I must say that this is by far the best and scarier Episode from this show for me. I liked that aforementioned gloomy stuff, but I also got scared easily. So, it was a mix of amusement and fear. Today I try to understand why this video was the scariest for me. Important note: I saw your reviews from the other two scary episodes about the Ghost train and the headless cabbie. I would rank them this way 🥇Bride; 🥈Cabbie; 🥉Train; Let's start with the train: I think the Ghost Train and conductor coming at the end, kinda naturalised them. Like, Brainy swinging his legs to the train, it felt harmless. Like the Conductor is more worried about repeating the scene of the train derailing than "I need to bring souls to the d3v1l", you see? Of course, hearing a deep low voice like that scared me, but the Conductor was clearly chilling out and harmlessly playing his accordion. What is different from the Headless Cabbie. That woman, or whatever kind of Ghost/Demon she was, clearly wanted to do harm for the Rider. The way she gets eerier and eerier, and that evil laughter... That scared me because it was clear that she meant harm to others. And despite everything being "debunked" so fast throughout the episode, seeing Ernie being at risk was totally terrifying. But now, the Ghost Bride was by far the gloomiest of all. First of all, most of the episode occurs in a gloomy foggy Graveyard. I was terrified of Graveyards when I was little. If I had to walk past one, I would need to close my eyes. Second: The bride was evil, and no, she wasn't an evil ghost. She murdered cold-blooded two people with a freaking AXE when she was alive! And we could see the shadow of the crime. Okay, that was suggestion, but suggestions can be scarier than seeing with your own eyes. And this wasn't the only thing: you can imagine the mutilated bodies lying just beside her while humming a wedding march and throwing rice over them. And how she fast escapes and jumps from the window. It is obvious that she is dangerous and will do harm to others without a second thought. I don't think that is a coincidence that the Ghost Bride Episode was only rarely shown in my country. Almost one or two showings during the Halloween Season, and late at night. The ghost train was a fairly common episode. And the Headless Cabbie lied somewhat in between. Not so common, but also not rare. Now, I would want to give my opinions on the ghosts are real or not. As it is animation, there was no chance of accidentally adding something to the cartoon. Mostly because it was dang expensive at that time. So if those things were included, they were meant to be there. I do believe that from the POV of the creators, those hauntings are real. For the train, perhaps the real engine 25 was recovered and somehow recommissioned for those relief workers, and the one we see is an illusion from the ghost of the Conductor. Arnold and his friends were not capable of seeing because perhaps the Conductor was not (anymore?) interested in bringing souls to the d3v1l. His thing was only to live the scene of that faithful night once more. Some say that certain ghosts are condemned to repeat the moment of their demise over and over again. For the cabbie, the dog was there, and the scarf was there. But not the lady. Perhaps that woman, or what she is, is only interested in victimizing adult men, not children. And perhaps for her ghost to appear, you needed to be at the chariot, not entering the Park by foot, as they made. For the Bride... The same for the cabbie. Perhaps she is only interested in hunting adult lonely men, not a bunch of kiddos. And she, of course, came to investigate that lonely person stuck in the mausoleum. She perhaps scared the Heck out of Curly to teach him a lesson of some kind (perhaps, "don't break a woman's heart). But for me, all those supernatural Urban Legends are true. They might only be misunderstood to some extent. But I, as a music student, can't let the music at the end of the episode unnoticed: that Humming of Wagner's Wedding March accompanied by that really scary Gloomy Chords played on the Organ? Cheff Kiss. I remember, after watching for the first time, being scared the Heck out of every single noise I heard. Always had a sensible hearing, so... I really feel sorry for the bride, thou. But nothing justifies her attitude. But again to the aforementioned power of suggestion: Only seeing her angry face after the wedding and the axe, I could imagine that hardcore was coming. Even being a child I could notice. Hope one day I can subscribe to Paramount to watch this episode again.
I feel like I've heard you talk about this episode before-- that, or someone with an equal cultured taste in Hey Arnold! as well. In that video it was mentioned the episode could have been better if it were a 2 parter, with part 1 ending on Helga's reveal only for the "real" Ghost Bride to show up. I agree the whole "you can't join because you're a girl" excuse is a lame catalyst, but as you said it DID justify Helga's prank. Curly though... looked like he was ready to straight up *murder* everyone just because he wanted to tell the tale... which is horrifying enough on its own 0.o Anyway, great vid as always. Yours is my Go To channel for the Spooky Month. 🍃🍂🎃☕🍫🍬🍭

I’ve always loved hey Arnold and spooky episodes like this scared me as a kid for sure I agree curly was just kinda a butt but hegla was a little more justified since she does get excluded a lot overall another awesome video loved it 😊
These are wonderful, haven't watched your darker side of Hey Arnold one or two but have you done the spooky episode about the ghost in Arnold's boarding house?
scariest episode for me is the episode where arnold finds that hidden bahtroom his grandpa has been keeping secret from everyone and then in the end an actual ghost comes out, that shit scared the fuck out of me as a kid
The bride is a little similar to Constance Hatchaway from Disney’s Haunted mansion. Both are ghost brides who killed their fiancé with and axe or hatchet
In oral history, the group always picks 1 person to be the keeper of stories and in one Pacific Ocean group they skip a generation to keep the stories fresh.
Interesting thing to point out about sid's comment to Harold about ending up in the cemetery, is that this is bascially a s*icide joke when you know the context.
@@DuskTillShawn I appreciate your work! I'm a new subscriber but I love your stuff! Another spooky ending was the haunted boarding house episode where Gerald (who doubted the existence of ghosts) is the only one to see the ghost at the end.

Even though i only vaguely remember the episode itself
A very creepy moment from hey Arnold, was when pheobe cheated during her poetry competition.
And the statue she won was haunting her. It's soulless eyes glared at her all night during a storm, as the statue said "cheater" over and over in pheobes mind.
It was unnecessarily spooky! Haha
A telltale heart situation
Helga is a much better ghost bride than Curly
The episode where the ghost in Arnold’s house picks up the glasses at the end terrified me
Omg yess! 😂
what made this really unsettling is that it was curly's final appearance in the series...
many had actually speculated that the ghost bride killed him.....of course this was debunked when he ended up appearing in the jungle movie.
the S1 Episode Magic Show where Helga is teleported to an alternate reality by Arnold is an underated scary episode of the show.
This episode was pretty dark but in an entertaining way. Back then when animated TV shows were almost able to get away dark stuff like this.
The spooky laugh at the end of the Elk Island episode always gave me chills as a kid. And it still dose. Not to mention four-eyed Jack, poor Gerald had his wits scared out of him at the end of that one.
This channel made me look at the WHOLE series in full because of these videos 🫠
I love the Ghost Bride 🩷
Hey Arnold was (still is) my favorite show! I loved THIS episode as well! I always felt for Curly 🤣😩 It was the way he stomped his foot, para me! LoL. 🤣😩
When I say this episode terrified me as a kid, I mean every time I woke up in the middle of the night I expected to see the ghost at the foot of my bed with an axe
You just unlocked a primal childhood fear
as far as sleep paralyses demons go that one's not actually that bad
I don't remember being scared of this episode as a kid.
what was wrong with me?
maybe it was all the jokes. the jokes in this episode is FANTASTIC
I used to love all of the spooky episodes of Hey Arnold! Thank you for your continued trips down memory lane! Have you ever considered doing a video on the Rugrats All Grown Up camping episode?
Honestly this episode is NOTHING compared to other scary episodes like
The Haunted train episode
Or the episode where Sid had a germ nightmare
Or when Arnold's cousin had friends that looked exactly like his friends
Or The headless Caby episode
Or the Four eyed Jack episode
Or even the part in the journal episode where Stella screams as she gives birth to arnold while a valcano erupts outside.
Man! They had ALOT of scary episodes!
I had it GOOD during childhood! 😉
This episode and the one about 4 eyed jack definitely imply that ghosts are real in this show
It's 4:20 A.M.
Sleep or watch a cartoon talking giraffe?
Video it is! 🦒
Also NOTHING will beat the ghost train episode!
This was also apparently the last episode that Curly appeared in. So he probably got murdered.
😳😳
I didn’t realize that. Holy cow, that’s creepy.
Thanks for watching, Robby. I appreciate your support!
Well, there was only two episodes that came after Ghost Bride before the show got booted off of Nickelodeon along with many other shows. Curly probably would of came back if the show ran longer. Besides, he was in the Hey Arnold Jungle Movie.
YES, to me this was the scariest Hey Arnold episode! And also could you do one where Sid was convinced Stinky was a vampire?? THANKS
can't get enough of your content 🖤
You’re the best, Raven! Thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate it :)
Oh yeah Ghost Bride, love that one... Top five for sure. Also love your videos!!!
Thanks so much for your support, Isaac! I really appreciate it 🤙
Gotta do the WHEEZING EDD EPISODE was by far the scariest episode, or even the Karate episode where Arnold learns karate and grandpas jaw falls off
I agree with you. I remember this episode as a kid but wasn't terrified of it.
The hey Arnold halloween episodes are all so scary, but this one is definitely the scariest
I love how ever scary legend was really real at the end of the ep. Four eyed jack. Wheezing ed. all really real.
You know shit got real when the Bride yeeted herself out the window 👁️👄👁️
⊙.☉
😂😂
I’m dead lmao.
Thanks for watching, Red Zula. I appreciate it!
I still watch the creepy episodes every October. They're more chilling than any jumpscare in horror movies in my opinion.
Curly probably would have killed them in the mausoleum if Arnold didn't reveal his identity 😅
Oh I was hoping you would do this one it’s one of my favorite episodes! I absolutely side with Helga on this one they deserve to have the crap scared out of them by her.
So glad you enjoyed the video, TheCosmosprincess!
I really appreciate your support and thanks for watching!
I would rank them this way
🥇Bride;
🥈Cabbie;
🥉Train;
Let's start with the train: I think the Ghost Train and conductor coming at the end, kinda naturalised them.
7:56 Okay, this joke's funny 😂😂😂
7:14 The Ghost Bride Humming The Wedding March a.k.a. Here Comes The Bride
Curly though... looked like he was ready to straight up *murder* everyone just because he wanted to tell the tale... which is horrifying enough on its own 0.o
Anyway, great vid as always. Yours is my Go To channel for the Spooky Month. 🍃🍂🎃☕🍫🍬🍭
I love Hey Arnold 🖤🖤🖤🖤 I have some of the DVDs lol Helgas unibrow
I remember when I watched that episode as a kid and I always wonder why hi just married with his own sister. Years later I just realized that he married with his fiancée sister 😂😂
This is becoming my favorite channel
scariest episode for me is the episode where arnold finds that hidden bahtroom his grandpa has been keeping secret from everyone and then in the end an actual ghost comes out, that shit scared the fuck out of me as a kid
Those two videos were what brought me to your channel.
Miss the 90s
Same!! Life was so much easier.
Thanks for watching, deon! I appreciate it.
Any time bro
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned “Treasure Island”, but that one stuck with me for a while.
Sometimes I can't believe this was a kids show... a double homicide-suicide? Holy shit
The bride is a little similar to Constance Hatchaway from Disney’s Haunted mansion. Both are ghost brides who killed their fiancé with and axe or hatchet
Have you ever covered the episode “Four-Eyed Jack” ? I haven’t seen it in years but I remember creeping me out when I was a kid
By far the scariest episode
Love your content, subscribed and notified! -The algorithm might as well be an omnipresent God at this point-
You’re the man, Max! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. I really appreciate it.
Absolutely brilliant. Long Live Hey Arnold.
In oral history, the group always picks 1 person to be the keeper of stories and in one Pacific Ocean group they skip a generation to keep the stories fresh.
4:28 "Here lies Cynthia Snell, she lived her life and go to straigth to... HELL!"
Yes is very obvious but i want to say it... very good analysis.
Interesting thing to point out about sid's comment to Harold about ending up in the cemetery, is that this is bascially a s*icide joke when you know the context.
Definitely a dark reference, for sure!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Ken. I appreciate it!
@@DuskTillShawn I appreciate your work! I'm a new subscriber but I love your stuff!
Another spooky ending was the haunted boarding house episode where Gerald (who doubted the existence of ghosts) is the only one to see the ghost at the end.
I don't remember watching this episode. What a great video
I would catch bits and pieces of Hey Arnold growing up and when I caught this episode one October I was actually scared
curly is the kind of person who murder a man for eating his sandwich
Hahaha sounds about right!
I've literally been binging your content so this is a very exciting upload ❤️
Thank you so so so much for watching my videos, Rem. I really appreciate it.
🙂
This out all ghost stories episode got to me the most
This episode scared me so much as a kid I used to have terrible nightmares about this episode....
