    They get along well off court because they're both humble although they express it differently. Love them both.

    The great Federer-Nadal rivalry, sure....more like the big Fedal bromance. :) They have a genuine friendship and it's a beautiful thing. Just watch the Laver cups.

    Why do people keep pestering them about retirement and the end of an era or something. They're here, they're legends, plus they made up half of our childhood watching late night wimbledon finals, so what? respect them, appreciate them and their rivalry while we still can.

    This may sound weird, but I cannot wait until they both retire. Only because I cannot wait until a producer takes the time to review this grand rivalry, in detail, from beginning to end, and we can all just take it in. It's tough to truly appreciate it now because it's ongoing and we're all still in the moment. Just like how Chris and Martina's rivalry was reviewed after their respective retirements. There just so many nuances to the relationship that we don't see today, that hopefuly we'll be able to see, post retirement. In many way, this rivalry reminds me of Chris and Martina. I think a big part of Martina's dominance over Chris, beginning in 1983, was the intimidation factor. Yes, Martina had built a phenomenal game, but there were few matches where she just blew Chris out of the water. And in those 3-set matches, Martina had a mental edge over Chris because of the intimidation factor (and Martina's confidence). Much the same with Roger and Rafa. Without question, I think Rafa intimidates Roger. It's not a matter of skill or ability. It's all mental for Roger, and Rafa is supremely confident oncourt, and that's what has made the difference the past few years...well, outside of the clay surface, too.

    Probably the two best ever, and you'll never get everyone to agree of GOAT. Certainly Fed-Djoker and Rafa-Djoker are more competitive rivalries. Certainly, also, Fed's 17 Slams are unrivaled. The H2H is lopsided to be sure; and although many point to Rafa's dominance on clay as skewering this, I don't think that's really true. Rafa also leads 9-6 on hard court, including 3-0 in Slams. That's pretty definitive

    • @rakeshramesh4585
      @rakeshramesh4585 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Federer is 2-1 on grass and 5-1 on indoor hard courts, including 4-0 in WTF against Nadal. And, Nadal is yet to win a single WTF featuring just the Top-8 players and Federer has been in 10 finals winning 6 of it, while almost winning 2 more. But, you're right -- "You'll never get everyone to agree of GOAT." For that, we will have to step out of statistics and give a thought about who has exerted the most influence on the fans, and fellow and future players alike, and will be leaving a lasting impact on Tennis over the years to come. I personally think the answer is pretty much clear by now. :-)

    • @alwallace1984
      @alwallace1984 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well I think the GOAT question is pretty much resolved, now. Federer winning in 5 sets, against the best record in 5 setters in history, down 3-1 in the 5th, fencing off break points in the final game, winning an 18th at 35 against arguably the greatest tennis competitor of all times, I mean, that's it. 6'000 people show up just to see RF warm up, no one will ever be as great as him, he's the Michael Jordan of tennis, one of the greatest sportsmen !

    • @Gregoryt700
      @Gregoryt700 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Al -- it's hardly resolved till Rafa & Djoker are finished, though it is advantage Fed at this time. And getting away from stats is the worst thing to do: it makes this somewhat pseudo-argument even more subjective, it becomes more of a 'most popular player' poll. People don't even understand how complicated the stats are -- Slams, elite titles, H2H, weeks & year-end no.1, peak ELOs , etc.

    • @Gregoryt700
      @Gregoryt700 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And every other major sport becomes more and more sophisticated in their use of stats. For tennis not to do likewise would be a major retrogression

    • @tattwa1
      @tattwa1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gregoryt700 I don't think Rafa will ever surpass Roger's 18th slams, but Joker still has a shot, I guess, at least to level Rafa's 14th.

    It's just amazing that two of the best players in tennis history can get along so well with each other, I mean I have never seen any of them swearing a word on the other ever. I think it's quite remarkable and a lot of athletes should behave the same way.

    As much as I've always wanted to hate nadal for the many losses he has handed roger over the years in important matches It really is impossible not to like him such a genuine nice guy, so glad these two get along so well it's nice to see. Yes people will say its boring and prefer to see animosity btween each one another but I think these guys don't need that they just play such special tennis against each other. I really this isn't the end of their amazing rivalry

  • @hililala321

    I think what is so special about this rivalry is not about the h2h or the quality of tennis (especially now both are in decline). It is more of a style matchup that enchant people. It reminds people of a time when these two were at the height of their careers, one dominant on clay and one grass. Also relevant is the 2008 Wimbledon final that is the epitome of tennis as the backdrop whenever they play each other. Fedal tugs at the heartstrings unlike Djoko-Fed or Nadal-Djoko does.

    • @Fed-np9ez
      @Fed-np9ez 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What makes this rivalry truly incredible aside from how different they are is that each one has a winning record on 2 of the 4 surfaces and on 1 of those surfaces each one has owned the other. On Grass Roger has a 2-1 winning record, but on outdoor hardcourt you'd probably be surprised that Rafa has a 6-2 winning record! Then on Clay Rafa has a 12-2 record, but interestingly enough on Indoor hardcourt Roger has a 4-0 record! Just adds to the rivalrys greatness!

  • @Markkyish
    @Markkyish 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Its not Roger's fault, that Rafa didn't get to finals and semis on other surfaces then clay that as roger did on clay. A Major part of their matches until now was held on clay - and that is Rafa's surface. He has Roger 14-2 there if I am not wrong (don't wanna look it up now). If you take their matches on other surfaces you see Roger having a slight 8-6 advantage there. YOU don't call it rivalry, serious people and tennis lovers OF COURSE call it that way.

      Oribe Peralta What in 2004 Roger Federer was 22 when 17 year old Nadal defeated him twice Rafael Nadal defeated him in the finals of Roland Garos when Federer was 24 25 26 in Wimbledon when Federer was 26 in 2009 when federer was 28 i am saying GS there record is 23-10 i am fan of Raonic but you have to admit Rafa owns Roger in this

    • @oribeperalta2907
      @oribeperalta2907 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I admit Rafa owns Roger in the mental part, Roger is very bad on that side, the matches they've played, have been all very balanced for both, but Roger wasn't defeated at the 22 by Rafa in an important match, but still Rafa had his prime years in a very early part of hi career and Roger started to become irregular at the age of 26, i still think they are aliens, they are both awesome tenis players, but Roger is a much more complete and a better tenis player than Rafa or any other, even Rafa admits it, but the mental part has made Roger weak in a lot of matches, and that is a part in which Rafa is strong, and Nole is the strongest, so that is why both win Federer in some of the matches.

    • @denisdaly1708

    nadal may have a better H2H record againt federer. Federer has like 300+ weeks being nr1. So Federer is more consistent than Nadal right? GS titles federer is still the lead, Nadal has around 14 orso, but dont forget he's is getting really old now.. He missed US open 2014 too, lost in wimbledon in the early rounds, so I dont think Nadal can performe at his best now and the nearest future. Talking about the masters, it's quite logic that nadal has more titles. 3 masters are on gravel, Nadal's favourite court, while non are on grass, Federer's favourite court. It's stunning that Federer can even keep up. If there were 3 grass masters, I have no doubt federer would have alot more than.

      I like both Nadal and Federer. I prefer watching Roger play, because I think he is more complete. He's got every shot, great variation and excellent volleying technique. They are both great for the game, with such different styles. However, Federer has a more complete resume than Nadal. Federer also has more Word Tour Finals titles, which are also important in world number one's history.

    Likewise,only difference is i cheer Federer and Rafa in their every match but when they go head to head i say let the best man win,even tho i want Rafa to win and even when he does i cant help but feel a lil hurt that Federer couldnt add more to his mammoth,illustrious and amazing GrandSlam Title Hauls.
    As for Djokovic i think Federer still has a much stronger game to his and could nail him more often than not but when it comes to Djokovic & Rafa it goes all the way down to the wire.
