Great video man! thanks for sharing. I was looking for how to record from an Atem mini Pro and this one helped me a lot. I've got a question that you may be able to quickly answer 😅. I've got an event to cover and I'd like to record with 3 cameras, there's no need for streaming, although I'd like to have the Atem in place to monitor the 3 cameras at the same time. My question is, how do you get the recording from Atem into de drive? What I mean is, is it going to record 3 separate video files (one from each camera) or is it going to mix them into one long video with the shot of each camera you have 'live' or selected with the Atem? Hope it makes sense. What I want is to be able to monitor what's happening in every camera all the time (no need to switch between them) and be able to record all in one place, like your SSD for example. Looking forward to hearing from you! Hope you can help me with this😀 Liked and subscribed!
With the base mini pro you will only get the master program out. You would need the ISO version to have the individual and master output. I use the ISO for events for this very reason

I've got Sony cameras, I'm gonna have 3 connected to the Atem, have you used third party cameras (not BMD cameras). When you do so, when you want to record, would you leave the cameras filming on an SD as well as back up? or you'd just configurate their parameters, set the angles and hit the record button from the Atem ISO to get the 3 outputs? Thanks again man, you are the master on this, hope you can help with this one as well. Have a nice one! 👊🏼

Ajay, great tutorial. Quick question for you: I recently purchased an ATEM mini pro which will be arriving in a week. I purchased a usb c to HDMI and USB converter hub which I plan to plug in at the back of the board to record to en external hard drive and connect to the computer for the ATEM software. Is the ATEM able to perform both functions through the hub? (Record and control ATEM software) I would just use the software via Ethernet but router is located in garage and I can’t access it without the greatest deal of difficulty. Great content.
I think I answered my own question by looking at others responses. Since hubs aren’t “bidirectional” it seems you can only have data going out to thumb drive but not data coming in to control ATEM by the software. If this is the case, can I plug ATEM into computer (that runs on wifi) and talk to the software that way instead of running Ethernet all the way to the garage?
Sadly no it can't do both functions through a hub. Hook up the external drive after setting up everything via USB c. Then connect to the atem mini via your network via Ethernet

Question. Can you record from the camera internally and still stream at the same time. I have 3 static cameras that I would like to set up on the Black Magic but would also like for the cameras to record internally so I have the raw footage for later use. Thanks in advance ☺️
That all depends on the camera. My camera can do that if I am running it at 1080p. If I switch it to 4k no signal comes out to the atem when recording.
Could to use a USB c hub on the ATEM mini pro and connect the hub to the ATEM USC c port and the USB data port on the hub to a pc for streaming with OBS/vmix?

Hi Ajay, Ruben here from Luxembourg... I was wondering, we have recently bought the Atem Mini and we are using OBS at the same time. I do not notice any big advantage in upgrading to the Atem Mini Pro when with OBS we can record our church services. Knowing your recent experience with the Atem Mini Pro, do you find it is really a game changer? If so, could you please let us know why? God bless, Ruben
if your computer with obs can keep up recording or broadcasting in 1080p, then there is no need to upgrade from atem mini to atem mini pro. Unless you want to simplify things. With the atem mini pro you can broadcast directly and so you will not need a computer with OBS. On the other hand where do you want to broadcast to? The atem mini pro can standard broadcast to youtube, facebook and one other I forgot. It is possible to hack the xml file and use other broadcast websites but that requires some extra knowledge and then it is not simplefying.
Hello, thanks for making this overview, lots of useful information. We're trying to piece together a One Button Studio for educators. Do you know if it'd possible to control the record start and stop from a keyboard? Ideally I'd have a system setup with only a usb hub for a usb drive to be plugged in and a custom 3 button macropad/keyboard with a keys for record, pause and stop. Or maybe one key for start and stop. The atem would be hidden and only thing exposed would be the usb hub and macropad. Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.
Hey AJ, can you do a revisit of this test, and let me know if when you add the USB Hub to the mix, if you can use one port to send video to the SSD for Recording, and use another port to the OBS pc, for streaming, I was informed, that if you streaming from the Mini Pro, and recording at the same time on the Pro, the quality of the recorded video would be the same quality as your stream setting, this can't work for me, as i can only stream on max 1mb internet bandwidth, which won't give me good quality video... I would prefer to record from the Mini than from OBS
This is very helpful. Can you record and connect to a laptop and use the ATEM as a webcam while still recording? (I wanted to do this without using Ethernet if possible)

I was able to set my ethernet connection with the atem mini pro to the point that i can use the software and control the device without having the usb plugged in however when i try to stream with the atem software to facebook or TH-cam using a stream key i get no feed on neither platform. Any way we can get in contact to see if you be able to help set this up properly?
On that anker hub, can you also output the hdmi for a program out? If so, can it be done while recording to sd card?
The video or does not work on the hub with the atem
@@AJaytheCEO Aww that sucks, thanks for the swift reply and helpful videos my dude!!!
Can you link the exact dongle model you used? If you connect the dongle could you plug in the SSD to record and dedicate another usb slot into a computer to act as a capture card simultaneously?
You can't do both functions at the same time
Great video,
Can you try connect one USB cable from the USB Hub to your PC to see if you can use it as an input to Zoom?
This way we will solve a big problem which is conference calling with zoom and recording at the same time.
Thanks
Thanks. I have tried this and actually test this with each update but it still does not work. It is one or the other, not both
@@AJaytheCEO THANKS soo much for this answer!
What hub do you use with your mini pro
This is the one I use by Anker: amzn.to/35kY1lc
I have been recording this way with you ATEM. We have four cameras and it will record all four cameras at the same time. The issue I am having it it stops recording after about 1.5 hrs. The camera that is showing on the screen will continue to record but the other cameras stop recording. Is there a setting that I need to change so that ALL camera record until I stop? You video was VERY HELPFUL!!!!! Glad I found your channel! Thank you,

What drive are you using?
@@AJaytheCEO Thank you! 😊
Could to use a USB c hub on the ATEM mini pro and connect the hub to the ATEM USC c port and the USB data port on the hub to a pc for streaming with OBS/vmix?
Hi AJay, thank you for sharing this video! I'm wondering whether it's possible to connect a USB-C hub to an ATEM Mini Pro, then connect a storage device and a computer to the hub, for recording to external storage and using control software on the computer?
I ordered an ATEM Mini Pro this week. I'm excited to work with it and test some of these ideas. :-)
You cannot do both. It is either a connection to the computer or storage
@@AJaytheCEO Got it, thank you!
This was exactly what I’ve been trying to figure out! Thanks. What ssd drives do they recommend for smooth recording
The SanDisk extreme 500gb is what i use
@@AJaytheCEO Is your SanDisk extreme 500gb working at software 8.5.2? Mine stopped working at 8.5.1 and above. So I am stuck at 8.5.0 if I want to keep using mine.
@@ericw357 yes mine is still working on 8.5.2
Ive tried a couple dongles to the samsung 500gb with usbc but the switcher isnt seeing it. I formatted the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Am i doing something wrong?
Try ExFat
Still no love 😞
Bro!! Great video! Super helpful
Glad it helped!
Thanks Ajay. Really helpful content.
I would however like to know if it's possible to have an HDMI output from the USB C hub?
This would be so as to have a clean HDMI feed, while the mixer's HDMI output serves a multiview.
Unfortunately not directly. You would need to feed the USB C out into a computer running OBS or VMix and then output that to your televisions. That is how I use it here
@@AJaytheCEO Thank you so much sir! You've been of great help.
Thanks Ajay!
Nice video, can you record and stream at the same time? Like connecting a hub, then your drive, and your computer?
No you cannot. Either you use a drive and hub to record or connect to your computer directly but not both
@@AJaytheCEO I figured it out already. You can connect your SSD drive to your USB-C and a network cable straight to your computer.
Wait can you record to SSD and use the webcam out using a USB-C hub?
No you cannot. It is one or the other but not both
Can I split the USB C webcam out to my Mac (For zoom) AND also record to Sandisk SSD at the same time?
No you can't. It is one or the other coming directly from the ATEM
@@AJaytheCEO Thanks!
@@AJaytheCEO do you have any recommendation on how to record if I want to use the USB c for Zoom?
@@MosesFrancis8 do a screen capture of everything in obs and record it that way
Hi Ajay, Ruben here from Luxembourg...
God bless,
Ruben
if your computer with obs can keep up recording or broadcasting in 1080p, then there is no need to upgrade from atem mini to atem mini pro.
If you got a steam deck and used bit companion that would work like that
Very nice! Cool! Thank you so much
Glad it helped
Hi Bro..please just a question, can I connect two laptops using the hub.. for live stream using obs, please
Sorry no you cannot
Awesome finding , nice video & Thanks :)
Thank you
Have you tried recording with a USB mic such a blu yeti? I havent had any success using USB mics even with an adapter.
No I have not tried this
Hey AJ, can you do a revisit of this test, and let me know if when you add the USB Hub to the mix, if you can use one port to send video to the SSD for Recording, and use another port to the OBS pc, for streaming, I was informed, that if you streaming from the Mini Pro, and recording at the same time on the Pro, the quality of the recorded video would be the same quality as your stream setting, this can't work for me, as i can only stream on max 1mb internet bandwidth, which won't give me good quality video...
I would prefer to record from the Mini than from OBS
When you connect a hub to the ATEM you cannot also connect it to a computer. That is unless there is a bidirectional hub I am unaware of.
@@AJaytheCEO thanks
This is very helpful. Can you record and connect to a laptop and use the ATEM as a webcam while still recording? (I wanted to do this without using Ethernet if possible)
Sadly, no you cannot if you are using the live stream through the USB connection
@@AJaytheCEO oh crap.
Thanks for getting right to the point bb great vid
Any time!
Do you need a video capture card for the cameras?
The atem is the capture device
AJay, we are live streaming at church and want to record at same time. I am using OBS and ProPresenter and am using ATEM Mini. If I get the Pro and use a SSD, CAN i record what I am streaming ay same time? When i use switcher ie: going back and forth between 1 and 2, will it be identical on streaming and recording? Thank you
Yes you can do that with the ATEM Mini Pro and an SSD but you can do this now with OBS just click record and you will get the same result.
Thank you so much. I’ll try it with what I have. What size SSD do you recommend for a 1 1/2 hour service.
I personally would get a SanDisk 500gb. The recording will not be large but for $65 or is a great all purpose drive
You are awesome. Thank you
So just so I’m straight, I can plug SSD into back of Atem and use OBS to record to it?
which USB Hubs are you using send a link so I can buy it

I have two SEAGATE 1 TB back up drives, they are usb 3.0, can I run from the Atem Mini Pro to that via usb-c to usb 3.0 connection? will it lose anything since it's not straight usb-c? thanks
No this "should" work without issue. I haven't tested this exact situation but it is similar to my test
AJaytheCEO thanks, awesome and informative videos,
Have you been able to test the HDMI out and split the multiview to 2 different monitors. I would like to have one monitor in the audio/visual booth for the techs and one monitor for the speaker as a confidence monitor.
can we use splitter?
@@demarboen Yes.
Will this work with a non SSD drive? Like the ones with an actual rotating drive?
No because they are not far enough for the data
I have tried connecting it to a TV set,but when I put vcd player it does not produce volume it is only when a DVD disc is inserted into the DVD player that it produces volume because I connected mine to a DVD player then to a TV set so how can I connect it better for it to produce volume for both vcd, audio CD& DVD disc at the same time
So I can actually record onto an SD card through a port?
Yes

Hi, I just bought a Seagate 6TB to the usbc for recording, but it wont work, what can i do?

@@AJaytheCEO It has an external power adapter, I configure it to ExFat and it works now! Thank you for the quick response, have a great day!
can we use i storage device and as webcam input to the PC with usb hub
No you cannot. It is one or the other with the mini pro
@@AJaytheCEO I wonder what would happen. Does it only recognize one of the devices, the PC or external drive, or none of them?
Thanks for creating the video. Have you been able to find a way to remotely access the ssd while it is connected to atem mini pro ? I shoot my videos in multiple segments so if there is a problem, i only to reshoot one segment instead of the whole video. I would like to be able to delete a segment I am replacing without having to unplug the ssd from the mini pro, connect it to a pc/mac, delete the segment in question, unplug the ssd and reconnect it to the mini pro.
Sadly you can't do this but that seems like a simple change in the code to be able to read from the files recorded like the hyperdeck studio does
Can you record and send signal to the computer at the same time?
Do I need to record with OBS to my computer or can I use another program? The audio from OBS sounds horrible on my system.
You could just use a thumbdrive with the Mini Pro
When using the hub to record with the Mini Pro, is it possible to also connect the computer to the hub and use both devices?
It doesn't recognize any drives on the computer. Maybe in a future update.
@@GotKEYStudio that would be okay as long as it recognizes one not attached to the computer or in the computer. When the user is faced with having none or only one USB connection left to plug into, it would help to be able to bplug both an external hard drive or thumb drive into a hub and then the computer.
But you should still be able to record in OBS on your computer while recording to external hard drives, I would think. I ordered one, but it's on back order at B&H. Can't wait!

Do you know if any USB C splitter would allow connecting to a mac and drive at the same time? I currently am using the USB c to connect to my mac to control.
No splitter will work as the usb direction is one way. Connecting a hub brings connections into the atem or vic versa
hi would this work to records to an external drive and computer at the same time
No
u got a video on how to use the atem mini to stream with the network connection?
Put a network switch or router to share many devices on the network, do not directly connect a network cable.
Can this be done on the 4K TV studio atem board?

hello ... you should test if you can connect the solid disks to the hub and also the connection to the pc through the USB port, to see the virtual switcher ... good job my friend
I did but it did not show due to the type of connection this is. I would need a female to female USB cable but I do not think this will work.

Let’s see maybe it’s possible to webcam and hdrecord through usb hub with new software update. Or maybe they even remove the usb hub support.
Still not possible
Can you have a hard drive connected for recording and also connect to computer for the “webcam” feature through a hub?
