I definitely recommend trying to get as much experience as you can but just remember you don't have to decide before vet school. Your education allows you to do ANYTHING. I'm almost halfway done and there's people in my class who still aren't 100% sure
Hey, just wondering, was it a supraorbital nerve block (at around 08:00) or was it a auriculopalpebral nerve block? It's not very clear but it seems supraorbital. I tought that the auriculopalpebral block was the most important block for an eye exam?
It was supraorbital. She didn't say it, but I've seen her do them a few times. Also, she prescribed atropine and another antibiotic. I personally don't remember what it was and I don't think she actually said it. It was a very older guy and he was very confused with how bad it was so I think she just explained it's a deep-penetrating A/B
I'll be starting SGU vet program this coming January and am interested in large animals. How did you get a chance to work with large animal vets? Are there programs at SGU that connect vet students with various vets? How do you apply? Also, what state is Dr. Fulton's office in? (I assume it's in Florida?)
Hi. SGU required me to get 200 hours before starting and so I just looked for large animal/equine vets in my area. Granted, I had to drive about 45 mins twice a week, so you may have to look further out. Sgu definitely has interest clubs like large animal society, theriogeniology, and large animal emergency, and more. It's definitely something. There are also numerous lunch lectures too Dr. Fulton's office is on the south side of Atlanta, Georgia
I love this video! How are you going with veterinary currently? :) I am studying equine vet nursing in a couple years, I’ll be working with a vet next year and I currently study infections, diseases etc by choice, I find veterinary very interesting. It will be hard but I enjoy it :)
To become a vet tech, you can get a 2 year associates veterinary technician degree. To be the actual doctor, you have to do 8 years of schooling ( 4 years undergrad, 4 years DVM)
I just contact local vets! I'm never afraid to get told no or don't hear back. Apply/reach out to as many as you can in reasonable driving distance. Someone is bound o say yes
@@BrittneyKilgore omg thank you so much for replying!! :D I will try to see if I can find some nearby farms but I live in the city haha. Hopefully when I go to university, there will be farms in the rural area ^^
Hey there! So I know you’re only a 2nd year, so you might not be able to answer this question, but when you apply for internships during your 4th year how many do they let you apply to?
You mean clinicals? We get to put down your top 4 schools (a variety between US, Canadian, and 3 UK schools). Then, SGU chooses based on merit/GPA. So like for example if Tennessee has 5 spots and 11 SGU students put TN as their top choice, the top 5 with the highest GPA of the 11 get chosen.
I'm in a college program in highschool that will allow me to graduate with my AA. Next year I'll graduate highschool with my first 2 years of college done (my AA). How will it work after I graduate? Will I do 2 years of equine science(or large animal science) then 4 years of vet school?
It depends on what your college/university has as available majors. Anything from animal science, biology, biomed science, etc. You'd do those 2 years and its prereqs and then apply to a 4 year DVM program.
Because you can breed a mare up to 10 days after she foals/gives birth if she goes into heat. Not necessarily recommended, but can happen naturally. So this foal was months old so she was more than ready to breed again. Mares are pregnant just short of a year so by the time a new foal would be born, this one would've been long weaned
This video was so useful! Thank you making it! I'm trying to figure out what kind of vet I want to be and this helped!

This is my fav specie to work with!!! Great video :)
I'm still not too confident with them, but I'm trying to get more comfortable:)
@@BrittneyKilgore You'll get there, I am sure. You should go to the large animal handling lab on Saturday!

9:00 how an i supposed to be a vet when my eyes are teary watching this?
Aww really ): You see a lot worse than this
@@BrittneyKilgore It doesn't bother me seeing surgery or anything like that, it's just eyes specifically. Idk what it is.
@@jencaisse7392 Ooh yeah! Eyes creep alot of people out lol
@@BrittneyKilgore Yeah xD I can't even handle people putting contacts in. It gets really annoying.
If you think of them as objects it wouldn’t be bad...

Oh and do you still remember which antibiotic she used for the eye? I couldn't understand it.

Why is their a foal with a pregnant mare?
I have seen this before, horses can get pregnant while still nursing foals.
If it was colic they would be trying to lay down
Not always
the poor horses
Well trying to get pregnant
