I’ve given up. I just take him to the nurse at the vet. My cat is an indoor that will not use scratching posts or pads. I spent so much money on them and he never used them. In the end nipping to the nurse worked out cheaper and less upsetting for both of us. Of course when I get to the nurse he literally lifts his paw for her and is like “ooooo manicure”… I guess he likes the right member of staff for the right job. I’m the cook and butler not manicurist. 😂

OMG THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL HOW-TO VIDEO I’VE EVER COME ACROSS!! Most just show you the cutting process, but not how to teach your cat to tolerate and/or actually become comfortable with getting their nails cut. This one shows you a series of specific techniques to teach your cat to become comfortable with their feet being touched through very clear and easy steps to desensitize them so that nail cutting will eventually be a quick, easy and NO STRESS PROCESS. Thank you so much, I can’t wait to get started 🥳!

i used to have an enormous (17 lbs, not fat) blue eyed yellow lynx point named Fanx. we lived in the national forest in new mexico, and my cats had a large pretty well protected yard; in 14 years only 2 feral cats and a bear came over the fence; Fanx and his compatricats treed them all. Fanx climbed me like a tree and rode my shoulder; in winter it was fine, in summer i screamed a lot. i cherish every scar. i so miss him, a long life for a cat isn't long enough......

This was an excellent guide for cat parents!! I've always used a toenail clipper, it's a little bigger than a fingernail clipper, so there's more space for the nail to fit in. I could never master that "scissor" type clipper and I didn't like that guillotine type at all!! Yes I think every two weeks is about right to clip. Those nails grow faster than you think!! lol. The best advice I would give to anyone is to start doing this when they are very young to get them used to it. That example with the spagetti noodle was awesome, I would have never thought of that! Great video!!😻

  • @jeffffro7674

Some dog owners make a simple tool for keeping the nails down. It consists of a small, 12*12 piece of plywood or something similar, covered with a piece of coarse grit sand paper. 60 grit is very effective but may be too much, if so then the next up is 80 grit, this happy medium may just satisfy everyone!! Some come with adhesive backs already applied, but most don't and they tend to be 2 to 3 even 4 times more expensive!!!
The tricky part is getting them used to using this as well. There is still a good chance that this won't work either but lots find it easier than trying to cut them directly. If you can train them to scratch it by themselves, great, otherwise you'll have to drag the foot across the sand paper your self, possibly giving them a treat after each time may entice your kitty to do it themselves or LET you do it, either one is a win!!!! Just being able to make a cat comfortable with scratching this board will make life better for everyone in the household!!!! Including your furniture.(yes, furniture can be happy and/or sad, don't act so surprised!)
I tried the double stick tape method, that experiment ended QUICKLY with one of my cats walking funny and crying about something! Come here kitty! What's this stuck to your foot??? Oh......

I do think that had a lot of very good 👍 info in this video on how to TRIM your cats 🐈 nails ! 😻🤗My Orange & white cat 🐈 which will be 8 years in July, doesn’t mine nail trimming at all ! 😺 I started out when it was young & hold the cat in a cradle style position ((like a baby)) & give hugs & just trim the nails that are really long & have really grown out & just the white part never to close to the quick or blood line !! If I don’t Trim the nails about every two weeks, then my indoor cat, Tobee with start to bite & pull on his nails !! 😻

5:05 That paw massage kitty is so cute! 😻
My cat will bite me if I go near his back paws. One time the vet clipped one wrong when he was under and having a dental. Now it grows in crooked, so it's all paws off the paws. His front paws were declawed when I found him outside, but he still loves his scratching posts!
Declawing is horrible and only a last resort, my cat has some sort of tendon issue, he can't uncurl his front fingers. The tendons feel like they pulled in and never relaxed/stretched back out (I think he was a catch and release that they practice on? His ear is clipped and he was fixed already as well.) It's almost like really bad arthritis but they were like that when I found him, and he was really young yet.
This was very informative and adorable as always! Thank you for going over the different clippers, I didn't think there were that many different styles out there.

Not that you care about me subscribing but my feedback is that I for one, tend to prefer videos that talks about the topic in the headline and not other stuff. I get that declawing is somewhat related and people that don't understand the reprecussions of that horrible practice might be tempted instead of clipping claws, but the guide itself was all that I wanted.
I really enjoyed the guide once it started though 🙂

I'm the one that trims the cat's nails in the house, and I normally try to do it all at once. One of my cats has a growling fit and won't even let me get to the first claw. I sometimes have to get someone to cover his eyes to try to calm him. Some of them act really bad, some of them are pretty good. I normally trim their front paws more often because they can't do as much damage with their back claws, and because they aren't always able to handle all of their nails trimmed at once.

Nails caps are totally fine! But they are MORE WORK because you still have to trim their nails before applying the caps. You have to trim the nails, apply adhesive, extend the claws, slide the caps on, and let it dry. Then you need to apply new ones every 4-6 weeks.

I have two 9 year cats I just adopted from a family friend. I’ve been told their claws have never been trimmed or cut before.. that they just groom and handle that on their own. Since getting them their nails are noticeably sharp when they sit on my lap and I can hear them when they walk on the floor. They don’t use the scratching posts I bought them but they love my furniture, curtains, and carpet for that. The furniture is old and will be replaced soon so I don’t care much about that. I do want to attempt to cut their nails on my own but I am scared they are so old they are set in their ways and won’t let me do it. On the other hand I see their nails are long and get stuck and could be in pain.
Great video I’ll give your tips a try!!

  • @TheDigitalThreat

I can usually get one or two nails per cat before they realize whats going on and start to pull away, and its been like this a few months now (since they were 9 weeks old). Their boundary isnt shrinking as usual but instead sitting firm, so ive just resigned myself to basically doing a nail or two per cat a day, every other day. They are not afraid of the trimmer or me in any sense, but once a nail or two is done they pull away and try to reposition. Not fight me or run away, but just to avoid continuing. Basically I get through each cats total digits ever week or two doing it like this so nothing is neglected, but it is super annoying. It also makes me blow through treats like crazy~ Maybe its a conspiracy of theirs to get more snacks?! My first cats let me do all their nails in one sitting so it was a simple every few week chore and not this every other day stress test.

She also started biting out of the blue. Then my ex- took the cat to the shelter, which he wouldn't have to do it he hadn't insisted on declawing her.

If she just liked treats lol

His cat doesn't contort her body to squirm away. Last time it took me 5 nights to clip 4 nails. The next time, he fled as soon as I put on my gloves. I have to start all over again at touching paws. :-(

My cat is Freddy Cruger! I just tried to do hos nails and he bit the crap put of me. I wanted to kick his butt. But I didn't. He scratched the piss out of my little girls face and she has school pics next week. Thus me trying to clip his nails. There's so much more to our story but way too long. She already has a scar from a Mastiff bitting her on her face 7 months ago. She has a scar and that's where our cat scratched her. It looks awful so praying for healing in the name of Jesus Christ.

I swore I'd never again have a cat with white paws because it makes the claws so difficult to see exactly where to snip. Next thing you know, here's another cat wearing white sox. Sigh.

Cutting their claws is unexceptionable in any form, I would never even think of it. If people don’t like their habits or their claws, don’t get a cat.

Trimming nails for indoor cats is perfectly fine. Some cats NEED their nails trimmed for reasons mentioned in the video. On the other hand, declawing cats is *NEVER* okay, as we also explained in the video.

Why cut there claws, it’s illegal in the UK. And anyone who does this deserves a prison sentence. It’s cruel.

Sadly, most people don't know what declawing is. They assume it's some sort of permanent manicure instead of serious amputation.

Dude. I clicked only to downvote your video. Don't cut you cat's nails, the cats NEED THEIR NAILS!!! Cutting the nails is bad. Declawing should be punishable by death for the owner, because such people are too stupid and too evil to be allowed to exist.

    • @ThePurringJournal

This video is about *cutting* cat nails, *NOT* declawing. In fact, during the video we specifically say that cats should NEVER ever be declawed. In the future, please comment after watching the video.

@@ThePurringJournal English language is not my first language and I guess my message was not clear enough. So let me clarify. I condemn both practices. While declawing is immoral and cruel, cutting a cat's nails is wrong as well. Give the cat a scratcher and let it be or do not own a cat. If you do own one, respect it because it's your choice and not the cat's. I do appreciate some of your videos, but I disagree with this one.

@@catmate8358 Trimming a cat's nails is like us cutting our fingernails. It doesn't hurt them. And they specified that this should only be done on indoor cats since outdoor cats need their claws to hunt, climb, defend themselves. Idk if this helps clear up any misunderstanding
Declawing should never ever be done except in the EXTREMELY rare case that it's medically necessary.
