Finally got the vintage jet ski up and running. She purrs like a kitten but still has some fine tuning to do with the jet pump/impeller. Keep watching as I post updates

i just took the racing muffler off mine so its better -was very loud -so easy to work on it so far compared to my 1990 seadoo - huge engine bay opening - ah, the good ol days when they thought 500cc was good enough- funny mutt wants a ride
I had two 89's that lasted until 2007. The carburetors are eventually what put them to death. I was not about to spend 1200 for new carburetors. Glad you got it running!
I have a very similar ski mine is blue mines at 6:50 I’m pretty sure yours is a 500 most likely you need to rebuild the engine probably have some cylinder problems it didn’t sound right but I mean hey if you just wanna ride it a little slow here in there that’s cool but you could rebuild the engine and it will go a lot faster
Just curious if you had replaced the impeller yet? I have this same ski and it seems to run only slightly better than yours. I'm pulling a tube with a 5 and 7 year old (80lbs, total) but not all that great. If I knew it would help, I'd buy one and give it a go, but don't want to waste money if there isn't much of a gain. Thanks.
Can these handle 2 people? It seem s like mine starts to tip and flip. I couldn't get to the lake from the dock without having to jump off to save the jetski from tipping over on idle speed.
@@salvadorruelas4362 I meant a good oil. No name brand in particular... as for fuel, you shouldn't have any problems and accidental mixed low grade/high grade. I run hi grade in all my small engines unless the manufacturer states otherwise
So basically instead of pumping a high flow of water out it instead is just blowing a large amount of bubbles with some water included giving the ski some propulsion through the water but not like it should.
Just to add ..these motors in saltwater , would corrode the exhaust manifold ,or water jacket ,and can fill the hull with either exhaust fumes, choking the carb ,making it slow ,or fill up with water . But first check out ware ring and impeller ! Almost bullet proof engines !
i just got 2 waverunners that are about the same age as this one and one of them is doing the exact same thing,lots of smoke and very slow (about 20-25 mph when they are suppose to do 40-50 avg) any tips on what to do? thanks
For me, the smoke cleared up after this video and began to run pretty good. I put half a bottle of SeaFoam engine treatment in to a full tank of premium fuel and changed the spark plugs and wires . After that, she ran great but realized my impeller was likely the culprit for slow speeds... That's were my understanding of jetskis stops lol. Good luck, hope that helps

@@snshansen does anyone know if on these 1990 the wash/flush house come off. The flush nipple on my was broken when I got it and the stem is stuck inside.im afraid the drill it while it's still on.....but not sure if this part is remove able

I have the same one but mines a 94 model. Cheap to run reliable and tops out at about 70km/h not sure what that is in mph.

Give it some throttle and you should be fine. They are pretty narrow, so some water pressure through the pump will help with low speed stability issue

If I can remember, this one had the oil injection deleted and ran mixed fuel 50:1 with 91 octane and premium oil

we slowly switched from 92 to ethenol free and they run better on ethenol free

Cavitation is what's happening.. The pumps not sealed. There is air leaking into the pump creating bubbles...

It's a wr500 I dought it's gonnna hit 40 or 50 when my 760 blaster pipe ignition impeller etc... runs low 50s lol a stock 701 runs 40 haha

It should mix the gas on it's own but you might have to mix it depending on the age

Yes i had a motorcycle that had the automatic oil injector and we would always just mix our gas because they will go out and burn the motor up.
The one piston in your cylinder is stuck witch cause it to smoke because your burning oil that is falling in the cylinder
