I've seena few covers of silly Billy and I never knew what the original lyrics meant (I never watched any lore videos so I still might be wrong) but I think ive finally relized what he means "I'll make you say how proud you are of me" he's been thru so much he's lost the love of his life and without her he's lost and has neglected everything he's had yet despite it all he's still going on he's still carrying on and wants to hear that someone is proud of him for still going "So stay awake just long enough to see my way" he's been thru alot and has seen the worst ending and wants you to know it not for pitty but to make sure you appreciate the loved ones in your life he doesn't want you to take them for granted he's using his pain to remind you that they may not be there one day and he wants you to cherish them I'm not sure if this is actually what they mean but it's my personal view and holy cow it hit me hard when it hit me
