the game has also a difficulty toggle, which is set to normal by default, but you can increase or decrease the difficulty from there if a particular level gets you a little much trouble.
Panzer Paladin doesn't need a big in-depth plot with tons of character development because it serves it's purpose as almost a revisionist history version of NES-era Mega Man where the Blue Bomber is replaced with a spunky, blue-haired robot anime girl and Rush is replaced by a badass Evangellion/Gundam mech. While I personally believe this game is amazing and is on par with or exceeds Shovel Knight in some regards, I feel as though the game may be destined to be an obscure hidden gem for the Switch. It should have been part of yesterday's Nintendo Direct to drum up some hype for it in all honesty. Just know that if you're thinking about buying it, the game is worth every cent. It makes me wonder if and how the upcoming Cyber Shadow can follow up on it's quality. I just hope the game sells well enough to warrant a sequel that expands upon the game's novel ideas.
This seems quite generic and unspecial . Yes it doesn’t need any story but then what does it have over some great nes platformers released 30 years ago. Another retro styled game that was released recently was bloodstained curse of the moon 2 which had five endings, 8 characters and a simple but effective story with cutscenes between every stage. As for cyber shadow yacht club are good at making memorable experiences which aren’t “this could be a 2d platformer from the 90s” so I suspect it will be much much better. Out of all the indie games I’ve seen recently this one seems to be the most uninspired. I hope tribute games continues to make games and that they learn for the mistakes that held them back here.
Actually, the game takes cues from a lot of games out there, like Mega Man, Castlevania, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Zelda II, DuckTales, Blaster Master, Metal Storm, and Ninja Gaiden.
@@robertbektas1810 "Yes it doesn’t need any story but then what does it have over some great nes platformers released 30 years ago" Nothing, and that's perfectly fine. All of Derek's complaints sound like positives to me (that's just me tho). I like when I can finish a game with a moderate amount of challenge rather than getting frustrated cause I'm not good enough or whatever. I love me some good pixel art with fast meaty hits and this game speaks to me in so many levels. Totally picking this up.
I don't think the game being too easy is a problem for it. Nowadays everyone wants to make NES hard type platformers. It's nice to hear that there is a retro-style platformer that isn't trying to do that. As long as the game is fun and not frustrating, what's wrong with that?
It's funny because the NWR review talked about how tough this game is. Maybe Derek has leveled up too much after playing all those old Castlevania games... Lol
Yeah, it’s funny to hear this game is way too easy. I just heard about this game today and checked a few other reviews before this one. And multiple other reviews talked about how difficult this game was. All I know is I love Mega Man, and Shovel Knight is one of my favorite games in recent years. So this game looks to be right in line with games I love.

Definitely a fun game!
Wow. The actual game systems in this game look among the best there is, I kind of want them to keep everything they done here for a sequel where it has difficulties meant to really challenge all of these abilities you have in this game. Hopefully, this does well enough for them to keep on with this because this looks like it could blossom into another well-loved series if tweaked just so right. The game elements here are executed in a way that could give the combined efforts of the original Shovel Knight campaign and Blaster Master a run for their money. You can see the love and care they put into it.
Sounds like it's Mega Man 1: a fun game with great ideas but flawed execution, that would (or could in the case of Panzer Paladin) perfect its gameplay in the sequel.

Good to know there are gems amongst the Junk
Its like Blaster Master meets gundam.
I was pretty pumped for this game but im getting annoyed w the increased price on retro titles. Bloodstained cotm 2 @15 & now this at 20? $10 prices and they both wouldve been day 1. Now theyre on my list for black friday.
A new Panzer Dragoon game?!
Oh wait...
I agree but I really don’t need a story or character development in this kinda game . If it’s there great
this looks dope
Holy shit is this out finally?!
I don't know, the game can be pretty damn challenging early on, but even with it being on the easy side, that's not really a bad thing. And to me, this is one of the better indie games to come to the Switch.
ikr, Russia, China and especially Tanzania weren´t really a walk in the park.
Why do my blacksmith creations disappear the next time I play
Games like this do not need "plots" or character development. Anyone looking for that kind of thing in games like is probably rather confused and should maybe just stick with the AAA first party titles or something.
Me waiting for this to pop in Super Robot Wars.
The mecha books similar to a Gundam in my opinion.
