I started NMS recently too and finished expedition 14 (my first) in a week without any tech or cargo from my primary save. It was a lot of fun and I got a s-class multi-tool and s-class interceptor starship out of it. I can't tell you how many walker brains I collected lmao
thank you so much for this informative and accessible video! ❤ i felt a bit intimidated by Expeditions before, but you made them feel like something i could have a go at. keep up the great work!
I’ve played NMS for several months now and expeditions always seemed like a lot to me, but after this I’ve decided to give it a shot day 1 for “Cursed” and I’m already through phase one, really pumped for that boundary ship!
Same here. I have 72hrs played but never tried expeditions. I've been looking for a new challenge and this video helped a lot. I'll be starting the cursed one today
They added this option with the Omega Update - We were hoping it would unlock the older expeditions as well. Sadly that has not been the case (so far?)
Thanks for this video! So, just to make sure I have this right - if you start an expedition from an existing save, it's like having two separate worlds running with your one character. With the kiosk in the Anomaly being a shared equipment area to move items back and forth? I want to make sure I don't lose anything if I move from one to the other - which I guess I don't as long as I move the items into the anomoly storage. If I took nothing over when starting a new expedition, would I get random new equipment there?
If you take nothing over, you start the expedition as usual (but from your existing save) which means, once the expedition is completed, you then can transfer over the currency, materials and Technology back to your existing save.
I was wondering if I got to take anything back with me❤ I copied my gun over and the scanner on my gun made the biggest difference. Didn’t grab my ship I figured that would be to much.
So if I started an expedition on a new save and complete it, I can get the rewards on my main save. But what about my multitool, ship, and resources? Can I swap those over to my main save?
If you start an Expedition on a New Save - Then that save will transfer over to a Normal Save when the Expedition is completed. As that save is not linked to any other existing saves, it is not possible to transfer inventory, Starships or Multitools, they will just be part of the Save it converted to. There are some sneaky ways if you are on PC - But none of them are vanilla methods (Read: Save Editor)
@@Beeblebum Yeah, I'm good at doing that - but I later watched someone else's video and it seemed like his MT and ship were intact, going by the pictures.
lol, wish I would of known about the existing saves being used. I got my new one past advanced mining laser so I'm good now but man that would of been nice to know. Thanks Beeb.
I do like to just start a Creative Save and jump into the anomaly to start an expedition. That way I can prepare for it, but not risk existing saves (at least at the release of the expedition).
Yes, you can unlock all your previous rewards on other saves. If you are wondering about unlocking rewards on saves you already claimed one (and perhaps deleted it) You can clone them over from an expedition. Check this video for more info about it: th-cam.com/video/zO56NckJfdg/w-d-xo.html
@@Beeblebum Fantastic! thank you! just one more thing, if i leave expedition mode and return to my original save and back to expedition will i have the same inventory as when i left it for both saves? and i can only copy multi-tools and ships from the expedition mode to the original save right?
@@freakguitargod The 2 gamemodes, while linked, are seperate instances. So each mode has its own inventories. You can only copy over ships and Multitools, but it is possible to transfer over items/resources from one save to the other (but only one time, not several times).
Not gonna lie, for a relatively new player this expedition system is very confusing. With all of the saves, tasks, redeeming rewards, re loads etc... it gets extremely overwhelming. Not only that, while I understand these expeditions come back later one, it can be anxiety driving being a new player wanting to participate but also not wanting to start because of a lack of game knowledge. But you also don't want to miss out while the expedition is going on.
This expedition definitely does not feel beginner friendly, as there is also a lot of mechanics that might not be known to new players. Apart from that, the short time and the constant feel of being rushed probably makes it very frustrating for them.
Just to be clear you can do the expedition with an existing save and go back to all my old stuff after it finishes? I’m not one for making new characters I’m too attached to the one I have😂
As explained from 6:36 - you can jump back to your Existing Save after you completed the expedition (it is even possible to jump back and forth between Expedition and Existing saves during the expedition).
Whatever I did, it was entirely the LEAST prepared ever. Did new save, didn't even peek ahead at the milestones. :) Had to keep going back to ocean/water planets. :)
For the viciousness milestone I assume? Yeah, this was my first expedition and that one stumped me for a good while, in particular because I saw a giant dune-sandworm-like creatures on one planet but couldn't get a scan off so I spent hours just walking around on that planet hoping to see one of those again.
No, the expedition is a whole, new, save. However, when you're done with the expedition, you can claim the unique rewards from that expedition in your primary save via the "Anomaly"
If you started your Expedition adventure from an existing save, you will be able to transfer over some of the items over (7:06). Some items don't seem to be able to be transferred over. The rewards you unlocked from the phases and expedition, will be available to unlock in all your saves from the QuickSilver Vendor.
I only have one too, I started playing right around the update that included the option to start expeditions from you main save, so I never felt the need to create a new one
You can, but Multiplayer (in general) is always a little finicky.. So expect that you will lose each other now and then and need to rejoin. But it works ok-ish.
I'm new and started a fresh one but barely played I can delete that then copy over the character. Now on my main I tried to get an atlantid multitool and got the wrong one from a shrine, could I get it on my expedition and copy it over to my main? Thanks in advance!
Yes, it is possible to start an expedition and travel to the system where the Multitool is at; Take it and then transfer it back to your existing save. Take note that it does depend on where the Multitool is located, because if it is really far from the expeditions planets, you will need either to fly for a long time, or use the portal. You do however not get any glyphs as rewards during this expedition.
As far as I am aware, the story lines should trigger once you end the expedition and I would assume warp once to a new Star system. This should normally trigger the Communicator on your ship to call you and start the story lines.
So, i can Sell the gathered items in Expeditions, Like Oxygen etc. because i Can Not Transfer them into the Main Save ???????? Im german sorry for my wording
IF you started an Expedition from an Existing save, It will be possible to transfer over a limited amount resources and technology - This is normally done before you press the button "End Expedition" (the same way you would prepare your Expedition before starting it). You can of course sell your things as well in the expedition mode, as the units/nanites/quicksilver earned in the expedition is transferred over to your existing save
Such a shame you cant carry the stuff over to your main save if you start with a new save, got the game a few days back guess ill have to push on till i get the anomaly and go that way
Expedition Rewards itself are available on all your saves... The only things that are not cross-save transferable are the equipped ship, multi tool and currency you collected.
Ok so if i do expedition from a new save i can still claim rewards (bug outfit and mech parts) on my main save? im hesitant to start expedition on my main save. Im afraid it will corrupt my save lol
Yes, if you complete the expeditions on a new save, you can even delete that save, your rewards will be available at the QuickSilver merchant to unlock. This can be done with every save and future saves you will make. (6:20)
You can still claim it by unlocking it with Quicksilver. While I have not tested this myself, you could also just start another Expedition, and only focus on doing the optional Milestones, unlock them in the expedition. It might take you some kills, but it might be less grindy than getting QuickSilver. Still, I did not check it how this works - I might have to test it.
@@Beeblebum thanks for the reply it doesnt even give me the option to buy the blueprints with quick silver it simply says "already owned" in the shop but i cant equip em on my mech, oh well.
Not sure if you came back to it, but at the time there was a bug with the mech parts that has been fixed, if you haven't already you can now just claim the parts normally from the quicksilver merchant
Play the main story missions brother, I started this game a few days ago and it was very confusing at first but it’s very fun once you understand how it works. PS. You can make everything free if u really want to thru the difficulty settings
You get it the same way you would on any other save. The only difference between expeditions and any other normal save is that there are milestone quests. Copper or Activated Copper (can be found on many planets in the starting Yellow Star systems) > Chromatic Metal There are quite literally dozens of great ways to make credits. Find a stormy planet and collect storm crystals, hunt bounties, find and sell crashed ships, establish your two trade routes between wealthy systems and buy trade goods in one system for cheap and sell them for a profit in the economy that needs them, etc etc etc.
Get some S rank scanner upgrades and soon enough you'll be drowning in units, another tip is to get the freighter as soon as possible (just do some hyperdrive jumps until you get the fight that offers you the free freighter), with the refiner in it you can combine 3 materials from the get go, much faster than grinding for the large refiner recipe, then just combine copper with gold and silver to get a lot of chromatic metal
They're fun as small and more focused runs starting from zero, and the rewards are always worth it, some are way more chill than others too like the ongoing aquarius one
