Wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan travels to the spectacular Tsavo wilderness in Kenya to try to get closer than ever before to a wild elephant family. African elephants are one of the most dangerous animals in the world, killing more people than lions or any other predator. But Gordon believes that elephants become dangerous only because of our actions towards them.

What's not to love about elephants? The way they protect their young and grieve their dead is remarkable. Every time I watch them my eyes start to water..
They are far better than many human parents. They welcome each birth with tremendous joy.

Elephants are very social...They take care of young animals as their own children..
They are very protective and loyal.
Its a whole family affair and I suppose elephants understand it takes a village to raise a child/calf. They all take part in rearing and protecting new calves and will even adopt them if something were to happen to the mother.
@@lufsolitaire5351 Elephant herds a lot times are related so they are looking out for their family like humans look will look out for their nephews and nieces.
They also mourn their dead, usually among the herd.
Mama elephants will carry their dead babies, sometimes for weeks.
They are exemplars for us humans.
The way that man expresses himself(I feel like I am a grandfather now) shows how great these creatures are.
Why would anyone want to kill these beautiful animals for sport
not sport but poachers.

i never seen trumptard jr with a elephant "trophy" . point is, poaching is a bigger problem than trophy hunting.

Imagine how much better off we would all be if we entered the world surrounded by this kind of love & joy..
Elephants herds are all female , live in a matriarchal society where the family is mother protecting her baby boys and baby girls, so females club together to raise babies with community of females.
As only female herds, 'Protecting baby, going according to baby's pace, And maternal health' is important .
You will see female loving other female and their kids and not 'Female hating neighbor female' in elephants, females live in a strong social circle where 'Males cannot come to attack female during breastfeeding, birthing, etc.'
Instead , elephants live respectfully, just like big ocean dolohins live

I love how ALL animals respect them as the kings of the animal world. The coolest animal video ever was when a fully grown healthy adult African Bull elephant decided to cross a large pond absolutely filled to the rim with hippopotamuses (and I mean a lot of them probably a few hundred) and they all just parked like the Red Sea to make way for the behemoth. That is saying something considering the hippo is arguably the second strongest animal in the world. Truly magnificent beasts.

I took an Africa trip once, and we saw a baby elephant, probably no more than a few days, or even hours old from a fair distance away. It wasn't easy, considering the entire herd was doing their best to keep it concealed like they do here.

These elephants are not celebrating, they are protecting the newborn and delivering mother from threats as they are most vulnerable. In this case, the recording crew is the threat as they are a little too close. Why doesn't he go in and celebrate and see what happens haha
Magnificent - wish people could be more like animals - so loving and trusting and innocent - pure love
Based on the location listed (Tsavo in Kenya) and the African gentleman’s green coat and his statement about “grandfather,” I’m guessing this may be video of a formerly orphaned elephant who was rescued, rehabilitated, and released into the wild by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, who then brought her wild born baby back to show her keepers. The formerly orphaned elephants frequently bring wild born babies back to the orphanage and reintegration centers to “show them off” and the keepers refer to them as grandchildren. DSWT is a 40 year old organization that does truly amazing work and if you don’t know about them already, check them out. Not only do they rescue orphans, they have a mobile vet unit, an anti-poaching unit, and work with the local community to address root causes of human-elephant conflict.

This is the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The elephant mother is Wendi and the baby is Wiva. I don’t know why they’re not naming the DSWT. Probably don’t want to divert attention from BBC to DSWT. It felt like there was a fair bit of defensiveness and nervous protection going on.
They kept a perimeter around the calf and at one point, seemed to be ready to square off with the humans.
I was wondering when someone was going to notice. I've seen this Behavior few times in different clips and I never really understood it till today. I read in a previous comment that there was a pride of lions nearby. And attacking to get ahold of a baby elephant is something they do. I also noticed that another person commented they thought that the female elephants were trying to bring the baby closer to the humans
