I feel like it gets more attention than people think, but not in the way they expect. What I mean by that is you don't hear people talking about listening to it (or really listening to it), but you can find quite a few covers from both famous bands and singers, and even random TH-camrs.

The song is amazing and Natalie has one of the most beautiful voices, especially with songs that are deeply emotional. The a cappella group, Home Free, recently did a cover of this song, but they reversed the roles with the soldier being a woman and she's going to Iraq, I believe. They are a group you should check out. Their playlist isn't all country but they do have a lot of country covers such as 9 to 5, Thank God I'm A Country Boy, Ring Of Fire, God Blessed Texas, and Man Of Constant Sorrow, which is a song you might recognize if you have ever seen the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou. But they (I believe) sing it better than the original from the movie.

You still haven't heard all their talent. I'm not sure if there is just one song thay can capture it all. Their harmonies are incredible and their voices are absolutely as good live as recorded. I saw them a couple of times in the early 2000s and again in 2016 and they're still awesome. They have a cover of, "Landslide" that really showcases how tight their harmonies are. If you want to hear that fiddle jump, try "Sin Wagon." :)

She said this because she was upset about the 2003 invasion of Iraq (part of the post 9/11 military action the US engaged in during W's administration). Fun fact...George W Bush is from Connecticut, not Texas. They moved to Texas for oil money.

@@BourbonCountryReacts I'm just messing around! Y'all put out some great content. I love music, and I love Whiskey. But If I said that in my first comment, well... I'd be every other person watching your channel. That's no fun!

You have had a few sadder/emotional songs lately. I think a good "lift me up" feel good song would be "Something to be Proud of " Montgomery Gentry.

I doubt you guys check comments on videos this old lol a few weeks ago a strictly country artist Cody Johnson just released a beautiful cover of this song that I think is a Drop D Deep South production that does well by the Dixi Chicks. Cody Johnson is big but he’s not mainstream enough to get voted on your channel but I love this song and this cover was one of the best I’ve felt in a long time. Not asking to request a video just thought I’d let you know it’s out there and worth checking out!

The fiddle player and the dobro player are sisters. The one sister can kill a banjo, so your Bluegrass comment is dead on.

Got to say this singing is very technical. The phrasing is very hard because the verses are very wordy with a long time between places to breathe. Just saying.

Beautiful song. Sad song but it doesn't pander or play games. Some of these type of songs are just too much chest thumping or cheesy vibe. This isn't. And the end? Where after each line repeats, an instrument stops playing until its just the drums left. One of my favorites.

They did this song because Natalie said in an interview or something, that Toby Keith's music makes country music look intallorent or something like that. They are very talented musicians, but as a disabled Marine veteran, I don't listen to them.
