CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A helicopter arrives to help tow the teenagers to the shore, but right as they rig up a rope line, the helicopter is attacked by the shark and dragged underwater.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Despite being a less well-regarded virtual remake of the original film, Jaws 2 earned a tidy sum at the box office by combining its predecessor's winning formula with the popular teen horror craze, helping to spawn the era of blockbuster sequels. Roy Scheider returns as Sheriff Martin Brody, whose small resort town of Amity is poised to bounce back from the economic hardship it encountered after becoming widely known as the site of vicious shark attacks. But at the same time that Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) is welcoming a real estate developer to Amity, two divers disappear and a party of waterskiers is consumed by a shark. The incidents are explained away as accidents, but Brody knows better, tipping his bullets with cyanide and forbidding his sons Mike (Mark Gruner) and Sean (Marc Gilpin) to participate in a teen sailing regatta. Everyone foolishly chalks up Brody's fears to trauma-induced paranoia, and the regatta goes forward, with a hungry great white trailing the youthful contestants and hungrily picking them off one by one. Director Jeannot Szwarc would later helm another sequel, Supergirl (1984).

Marge’s death always hit me the hardest because she didn’t fall into the water, she jumped in to save Sean. She was the only one who jumped in to save him.

Marge risked her life for a child she never even knew before this day. I know it's a movie but God damn she is such a great person. This is probably the most heart breaking death scene in a horror movie.
I've seen numerous reviews about how the teenagers are the worst part about this movie, but I don't see it that way. The actors all did a phenomenal job selling the terror and horror of the scenes -- you can believe they're really being attacked by a relentless shark. Not to mention the fact that the teenagers prove themselves to be heroic and self-sufficient. They look out for each other and put themselves at risk to help each other. Marge even pays the ultimate price saving Shawn's life. Yeah Jackie is annoying, but they make a point in the movie that she's not an Amity native and is a fish out of water in this situation. Otherwise they're believable characters who handle themselves as best as teenagers can in a horrible situation.
100% agree. The best part of the film IMO. Donna Wilkes (Jackie) was very convincingly terrified…she amped the anxiety for me.

The problem was that it came off like a teenage slasher flick (minus the sexually repressed female lone survivor). In retrospect, it certainly didn't help this came out only 2 years before Friday the 13th. The biggest problem was the utter lack of manipulation and a very heavy reliance on special effects as opposed to good acting and writing. I mean, none of the scenes had any build up whatsoever. It was like people there, shark appears, people scream, chaos follows, shark leaves, remaining characters re-compose themselves, rinse and repeat. Plus, the town of Amity; in the first movie it was a quaint fishing and beach town. Here, Amity seems to be just booming with industry and more and more people. I mean, you're telling me that after the events of the first movie not only did Amity not recede into a ghost town but is now one of the fastest growing cities in America?

that scene traumatized me as a child..until now whenever I am on any water... I always imagined that scene...shark's giant head surfacing from the water......then that crunching sound... nightmare
No real shark would or could do such a thing. Unbelievable that the shark just attacks the helicopter at the correct moment to stop him from getting up, as if he know what that thing was. Sharks are not evil its only dramatic filmwriting, maybe it helps you...

I agree, it looked very realistic. And then that brief, terrifying moment was ruined in the next couple of seconds by showing much of the shark out of water.

I think there should be an oscar for best scene in a movie or best bunch of supporting actors. These kids were magnificent and played their roles to a T. I love how each of them were given different roles to play, how their attitudes bounced off each other and how well they depicted being hunted by a shark. Some became leaders, others became nay sayers, one became catatonic
while some became unglued and others kept their heads on. Great job of acting and knowing their parts.
I guess that’s why Jaws 2 is ranked among the greatest Top 10 Shark Movies of all time
I cry every time I hear "Help me, I can't get up!" from Marge I am just sad.
If you listen closely, her lasts words are "Its gonna get me!" This is the scene perhaps in the whole Jaws series that breaks my heart.

gutz1981 actually Sean says “Please Hurry!!” and then Marge’s last words are “I can’t get up!” But still, the sheer helplessness in her voice is gut wrenching. And add Jackie’s traumatizing scream with the score, the whole scene is a horrific masterpiece.

This scene would have been even more chilling if poor marges death was shown from shaun's point of view. John Williams tense scoreline sent shivers down my spine alone.
I'm just wondering, if the actress who played Marge ever went to a convention, how many people would line up just to hug her? Its just a so heart wrenching scene. I can't image being say her mother or father as seeing this scene in the cinema back when it came out. I would ball my eyes out, even if I knew it was just a movie and my daughter was sitting alive next to me watch the film.

Marge was essentially my favorite character in Jaws 2, because of her playful, loving, selfless, and caring demeanor, and it makes me mad that they had to go and kill off such a sweet young lady. Sometimes, I feel tempted to shake my fist when the shark chows down on her.

I mean just imagine sailors who have to sail big dangerous seas. But then again with computer driven boats being a thing nowadays, so maybe thats who drives those boats now?

Such superb acting and storeytelling. Amazing visual effects. Easily one of the greatest films of all time. Wayyy better than the first Jaws film. I think the Jaws franchise got better with each movie... Making Jaws:The Revenge the best of them all.

The first girl who didn’t scream and didn’t do anything! Marge was the only girl who didn’t act like that. She acted calm and quick thinking to save the kid knowing it might cost her life. She have to be the first person who didn’t act the stereotype.

I never realized the pilot getting eaten was a deleted scene. It was always in the version I saw.
The pilot scene only were seen as the plane toppled over. Afterwards. Never knew what happened to him after that particular shot of the Movie

I saw the pilot getting eaten at the theatrical release but it was edited out of the later versions.

I've always thought "Jaws 2" has some really great suspense moments in it and cool shots, like the sequence where the shark chases the woman water skiing. It's a decent sequel to the first movie, unlike 3 & 4.

Marge's death and that guy from Jurassic Park 2, (Eddie?) that saved those reckless idiots that brought the baby T-Rex back to the camp were always heartbreaking. They were heroes that saved others but got killed and eaten by a shark or T-Rex. Funny how both were basically a lesser monster movie sequels to a great first movie directed by Steven Spielberg, separated by about 20 years.
I just read this in Jaws Trivia:
*"Swatek had no idea the mechanical shark was coming behind her, and in fear, while it looks like the shark devoured her in the film, what Swatek actually did was dive underneath the boat to make it look like she had died."*
How could she have no idea the mechanical shark was coming up behind her? This shot was planned and rehearsed.

Why did they cut the underwater scenes from this part? They looked really good, and they felt very claustrophobic. It was just a really good effect, only to wind up on The Cutting Room floor.
The first time I saw this movie was on ABC Channel 7, Friday Night Movie, was probably 1983 or 1984. The pilot being devoured underwater was INCLUDED in that broadcast, and you're right, goddamn terrified and thrilled me! Don't know why the extra twenty seconds or so couldn't be on the VHS or DVD when it was SHOWN on regular television!??!?!?
I guess they thought it would be far more dramatic and scary to instead have the helicopter pilot disappear under the water
@@superjackster0165 It was to do with getting a PG rating. The pilot getting attacked was not graphic, but the amount of shark attacks could have changed the rating, and this was the one they felt was easiest to remove. Also, the underwater scene with the helicopter was originally part of a longer scene that was never filmed.

But seriously. This is the saddest scene for me. She was there for the kid throughout the entire sea trip, even risked her life to save him.
It's just a film and I'm really moved by the performance of this actress, especially her final words.

The way Jaws attacked the group after eating the pilot, the shark just seemed pissed. Makes you wonder if Jaws was almost punishing them for trying to escape.

@@mariejoseph6096 yes you are right. I was just saying that in the original shooting script, it said that the shark rams the boats causing both Marge and Sean to fall into the water, and it was probably changed to just Sean falling in and Marge jumping in to save him
I always thought Marge was really pretty :) Her death was really heroic and horrifying, it’s actually a well executed scene. This is a decent sequel with a fantastic Roy Schneider performance.
It’s the scream just before she’s eaten. The realisation that she’s not making it, then the attack. This scene is probably the most disturbing in the film.
The best scene in Jaws 2 and we all knew it was going to happen.

Police chief Brody must protect the citizens of Amity after a second monstrous shark begins terrorizing the waters.
I feel bad for the pilot. He tried to save those kids, but the shark killed him before he could save them. We can't say he didn't try.
Edit: The fact Marge gave up her life to save Sean was Amazing. May she rest in peace. I'm pretty sure Sean dies in Jaws The Revenge, but I haven't seen it in a while, so I could be wrong.

It's a Hughes 269B, initially developed as a trainer for the Army, where it was called the Hughes H-55 Osage. The 269 was a larger model that could hold three people.

@Brandon Acevedo I saw the deleted scene on TV once. From what I remember, the shark was never shown to actually get the pilot on-screen, though it was implied. All I remember is it was attacking the helicopter underwater while the pilot was struggling to get free. After a few tense moments, the deleted scene ended.

Even without a giant shark in the water, towing a bunch of marooned dingy‘s and catamarans with a helicopter was probably a bad idea to begin with.
