CNOC Outdoors Vecto 2L Water Bag Review

  • Long story short... the Vecto Water Container from CNOC Outdoors is awesome! One weekend in the backcountry with the Vecto proved it to be one of the best backpacking water containers. I've been using the Sawyer brand water bags for the past few years and they always have been a pain to fill up with water, but they are still great bags. The Vecto on the other hand has a nice wide opening at the top that makes filling so easy, that getting water doesn't have to be a frustrating process.

    So, one takeaway for using Cnoc bag is wipe it off after filling with water so non-filtered water does NOT run down the bag when inverted for filtering and dispensing.
    Great review if attributes, merits and demerits.
    no need for apologies when delivering negative experiences with the Sawyer bag. We need the facts as experienced by you in real life activities.
    Cnoc is a first-rate company! I have their cork-handled adjustable hiking poles -- excellent in every way.

    I used this bag for five days on a trail work party in Alpine Lakes Wilderness and the bag worked great.. easy to use and stood up well

    I just used mine along with a HydroBlu Versa filter for the first time on a 5 day trip to Sequoia NP. The durability and small packed size are a huge plus for me. However, the wide opening and ease of filling in both lakes and small streams seals the deal for me. On one mountain pass I was even able to fold it under a small overhang and grab a trickle that was coming off a few rocks. I'll be buying another one for myself and extras to give to my hiking partners who also enjoyed using my setup vs. their old pump style filters and bottles.

      I use mine with the sawyer mini and unfortunately the circular clip at the top of the bag broke the first time I used it. Luckily I was in my garage trying it out. I have contacted CNOC today and hopefully they can overnight me a new clip as I am leaving Wednesday for a long 3 day hike

    I tried these out a few months ago and I agree. No more Sawyer bags ever!!! I never liked the Sawyer bag design and I am glad we now have a better solution. I also like how the CNOC bag is more flexible.

    Dont feel bad about dissing the sawyer bags. They are pretty much just garbage that is there to say bag included.
    That being said, it will work fine for people that a lot of people that use it a couple times a year at most, and am glad that they include something.

    I bought one based on your review, and I really like it. So easy to fill. Also caught Wasatch Wills video with you. I always carry a tube of crazy glue for my dogs paw in case he gets cut. I learned it from some K9 Officers and it works great. The Uintas can be hard on a dog. Thanks, Clayonthetrail

    I use 3-liter CNOC bags because more water why not and at the time it was hard to get the 2-liter bags, but hands down the swayer bag is so bad I'm surprised Swayer even still 6 years later include it with their filter

    When hiking, do you use your CNOC Vecto to carry water inside your pack? I thought this being a container that water goes in, meant for the backpacking crowd, that it's a no-brainer to say "yes" to this question... yet CNOC themselves, on their 2022 FAQ specifically say they "don’t recommend putting your full Vecto inside your pack if you’re concerned about leaking"!!! So what the heck? I don't get it. A water bladder for hiking that you CAN'T put in your pack if there's water in it???

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Vecto is not a traditional hydration bladder that you drink from. It’s meant to be for collecting dirty water to filter from. In some cases you may fill the bag to carry extra water when you might be dry camping or just need to carry extra water for a dry section. Any time that I’ve done that, I’ve always put the bag on the outside of my pack. Not worth it in my opinion to risk all your gear getting wet.
      Now I’ve not ever had one leak and do that to me, but I don’t risk it. Maybe you put the slider on wrong, or a friend does it for you and it was folded wrong and the slider doesn’t seal and you don’t check it. Then you’ve got water everywhere. Just my thoughts.

    • @johnnyg8782
      @johnnyg8782 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BackcountryExposure Thanks for replying! I never said 'hydration bladder' as in something I drink from constantly w/ a hydration tube or whatnot (they don't even sell a tube-type system). Direct off its product page, It's marketed as a "durable" "water container" which you can "store" water in, specifically for the "backcountry" "dry camp" and mentions hiking and camping.... so it literally makes ZERO sense that you can't carry it full of water inside your pack like literally every. single. other. water storage container ever made in existence, EVEEEERRRR lol, can be used.
      The product page also says NOTHING about not being able to use filled with water inside a pack... and pretty positive the FAQ, when I bought mine last year, said nothing about not using it inside a pack or there is no way in hell I would have bought it. To compound this, it seems to be pretty popular with the ultralight crowd, and every ultralight hiker I personally know (i.e. me and a couple likewise friends) use a SINGLE larger water container, then fill their much-smaller handheld (smart)water bottle or whatever with water from that. I'm now worried that somebodies main water container (CNOC) is going to rupture when in their pack (because of course between water sources the larger container WILL be filled with water) and somebody is going to be stranded away from civilization without their main water - could really put somebody in a perilous situation, all because this products description doesn't mention it can't be used as everybody in their right mind would think it can/should be used (i.e. inside a pack filled with water).

    lol, your video on the Cnoc Vecto is very similar to mine. Is this the updated version or the original version? the reason I ask is because I have problems screwing my filter on properly and I've got the original Vecto.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Willcocks mine is the updated. It’s been really great, no issues. Besides cross threading the filter on a couple times.

    • @BackpackingWithJason
      @BackpackingWithJason 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Willcocks I’ve had the same problems. It’s just the cap end is squeezable. And that makes for leaks and sometimes my filter pops off.

    • @PaulWillcocks
      @PaulWillcocks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review, but you pronounce CNOC the wrong way. Cnockoutdoors say "Cnoc, pronounced K'nok (knˠɔk), means hill or a mount in Gaelic and old Irish: A natural elevation of the land surface, usually rounded."

    I have not had a good experience with my CNOC Vecto 2 liter bags the Sawyer Filter fails to seal and water leaks out the where the bag and filter connect. I was so looking forward to using the bag while hiking on the AT however the threads just don't work.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chuck Crookshanks from what i understand they had issues with their first run of bags. Mine is the newest run i guess and it’s been great. I’ve had 20+ liters through it and no issues aside from the cross threading that i mentioned in the video, and that you see about half way through the video.

    When I got my Sawyer filter the 1st thing I did was to toss those sawyer bags and use after market bags. Now my Sawyer is the backup filter ( Made into a gravity filter syastem ) since it has been replaced with the BeFree filter.

    Good review. I’ve had the Cnoc bag for awhile. I love everything about the bag except the cap. I’ve had my filter leak and even pop off because the cap is squeezable. If you look at other caps on bags there really strong but this bag has squeezable thread cap which makes leaks and pop offs. Great bag but they got sloppy on the finish product. I wish they would have made the cap end way stronger. Still sticking with sawyer bags for now. Thanks for your video. Really love your channel. 😃😃👍👍

    • @BackcountryExposure
