  • Blizzard 2011, Beloit, WI, USA, Craftsman PGT 9500 (Simplicity Prestige), 42" 2-stage Snow Thrower attachment, 200 lbs rear carrier weights, 100 lbs rear wheel weights, rear wheel chains; no problems going uphill into deep snow over ice. After making this video, I noticed that I didn't have the throttle turned all the way up. I set it up to operating speed and the next driveway went even faster. I cleared 7 driveways and made a path down 2 blocks of road to free 3 stuck cars in 6 hours on 1 tank of gas.

    NOW this guy is not self centered by any means. He goes right over to his neighbors place and helps him out FIRST this i how ALL people should be...be nice and helpful he sees his neighbor trying to shovel 5ft of snow what a great guy here we need more people like him around.

    • @fixmdude
      @fixmdude  10 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      XboobtubeX He has a single-stage blower and does both of ours when it snows a little so I don't have to burn up gas on a couple inches of snow. He uses it twice to every time I have to clear once, and it takes him longer. He also brings my recycle bin and trash can up from the curb every week when I'm at work so they don't blow away. He's my neighbor, that's what good neighbors are for.

    I bought an old 18 hp MTD type lawn tractor that didn't run and am mounting a newish MTD 42" 2 stage Snow blower that looks very similar to yours. I got the tractor running and am about done mounting the blower. It required some welding and drilling to get it attached. It is a manual lift but I hope it works as well as yours. I may only have about $400 total into it when I am done.

    My grandfather attached a 42inch hd snowblower with a hydralic lift to a 1975 cub cadet 19hp. It was nose heavy! But wow it could throw snow upto 50ft...that was 1990. My uncle in illinois has the snowblower now..never uses it...shame..i could have used it in 2004 with our 3ft of snow

    My wife and I have the Snapper version of this tractor (GT2354). Before buying this tractor I had been collecting Garden Tractors from the 60's and 70's for twenty years. To me, the Simplicity Prestige is as good as any of the older models! I hope someday to find a Snow Thrower for it.

    It's very simple on this hydraulic model; there is one hydraulic lever on the dash that goes up or down to lift and lower the whole blower off the ground. There is a second electric switch that goes up and down to run the small motor that turns the chute right or left. There is a third manual handle like a bicycle brake line that is pushed in or pulled out to raise and lower the cap on the chute to aim the output higher or lower. You can see those first 2 controls in my first video w/ the deck.

  • @fixmdude
    @fixmdude  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In parts of this video the snow is above the top of the height of the thrower. Their are two drift cutters that came with it, which bolt onto the sides of the thrower, for handing snow much higher than the height of the thrower. It has never bogged down. A full sized Chevy Blazier with a plow got stuck in the road and I was able to free it with this because the thrower continuously gets rid of the snow instead of trying to push it into bigger and bigger piles going forward.

    I have a 2000 Simplicity Broadmoor, love it, but I bought it after it was re-powered
    at 499 hours. Seems like tons of ads selling Simplicity's needing a new engine right about 500 hours. As many as I've seen over the years, makes me wonder. I bought mine pretty cheap and I'll never waste the money on a new one. I wonder if they aren't vented well enough for air cooling. The older ones are best, Simplicity Sunstar or Sovereign have legendary reliability, they don't make um like that anymore.

    • @fixmdude
      @fixmdude  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tony Montana Yes, my previous 2000 Simplicity Regent had an under-powered 16 HP engine and there was a class-action lawsuit about it being mislabeled in HP. That's why I went with the Sears version of the Prestige this time with a 30 HP Briggs Pro engine, much better than the engine found in the Simplicity branded version. The rest of the tractor was the best I could find, and the better engine made it perfect. Too bad Sears stopped selling these after 2 years because they were too expensive for the market and they weren't selling enough. You get what you pay for.

      +fixmdude i really dont think there is a whole lot of quality in much new unless you spend $20k and buy a kubota. me i have something really old and well built. its a 1948 IH farmall cub. its actually a small AG tractor and not a lawn tractor at all. its probably one of the smallest AG tractors ever built. they built them from 1947-1979 and they have a small 4 cylinder 60 cubic inch liquid cooled engine. the engine is pressure lubricated with a cartridge style oil filter. it has hydraulic lift as well (nice feature). it has things like differential braking, front headlights and a rear work light, electrical system with electric starting. it is a 6 volt system and my tractor is still setup that way, they can be converted to 12v. as far as parts not too much problem as they have a great aftermarket support. i have a 54 blade, weights, chains, tires loaded with rimguard. it will push 2 feet of snow without much trouble. i also have a 60" belly mounted mower and mow 2 acres a week. i have minimal problems with it, it runs and runs some more. these things were built extremely well and not much made to today can compete to the quality of the steel and cast iron. its sad because with modern technology we could do much better but that's not our way. we buy Chinese made crap and replace it in less then a decade. that's not my way. using and preserving history is the only way i think. this old classic will survive much better being used then sitting around. something breaks it will get fixed

  • @fixmdude
    @fixmdude  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No. My walk-behind Simplicity 2-stage clogged every time it hit wet slushy snow but this tractor has never clogged once. I think the guard to keep you from putting your hand in the walk-behind's shute was causing the slush to get blocked and clog. That isn't an issue with this tractor.

  • @fixmdude
    @fixmdude  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, it's the same except that the Craftsman 2010 model had the 30 HP engine which was not yet available in the Prestige until 2011. And the Craftsman mowing deck does not have full-length rollers that are on the Simplicity deck. The rest are Simplicity part numbers on everything. Just like how every Sears Kenmore appliance is made by another company with a couple changes just to make them unique. My Kenmore washer is a Whirlpool that spins a few RPMs faster just to make it unique.

    @fixmdude  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @cjohncon I think your pgt9000 is an MTD tractor? The pgt9500 is a completely different tractor made by Simplicity so the parts are different. The 9500 model costs twice as much as the 9000 and one of its benefits is front hydraulics that runs the power steering to help turn the front wheels when the blower weight is on the front, plus it also runs a hydraulic lift in front for raising and lowering the blower. I use it constantly when I go up and down the driveway since my driveway isn't flat.

  • @cjohncon
    @cjohncon 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    crap, you werent kidding! That tractor costs a chunk of change... Im going to look into maybe getting a retrofit, but based on the differences Im not to hopeful.

    How are you raising and lowering the blower? I have the pgt9000 with the 28hp briggs pro engine that I put through hell for the past 2 years with a snow blade. finally getting the blower but Im thinking its going to be a real pain in the arse to raise and lower the blower.
    Any idea what the part number is on the blower? I only ask because the one I am looking at the 42" blower and it says on Sears' site that it's only for tractors with 22" or smaller tires, mine has the 23".

    It's too bad that they only offer the 42" blower for that rig. I've got the 46" blower on mine and I still find that I wish it was wider. You've got 6 more HP than I do, and I've never felt underpowered at all. The only weak link is the mule-drive belts. I burn through them pretty quickly if the snow is deep and heavy. That might be why they stopped making them that size.

    Hey, I have a question. I recently bought a new Prestige and am considering the snowblower attachment. You have used yours for 2 years now. Any issues that I should know about? Belt issues, pins breaking off, any issues with getting the subframe on/off, etc.? I would rather get the attachment but, I don't want to make more work for myself (like with the standard MTD-made Craftsman tractors). I've heard some horror stories.

    The snow throwers with the rubber augers do a much cleaner job.They actually rub the pavement and sweep it clean.

    • @fixmdude
      @fixmdude  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rubber augers are only on Single-Stage snow throwers which are limited on how much snow they can handle. This is a two-stage thrower, one auger to throw the snow towards a second auger that throws the snow up the chute. Two-stage throwers are more powerful, throw further, and almost never have clogged chutes in heavy snow.

    Don't really think you need that much weight in the back, might steer better if you removed some

    • @fixmdude
      @fixmdude  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ron Chapman Don't need that much weight, but it sure was fun flooring the pedal on 30 HP while doing short back and forths and speeding through deep snow, it could still spin the tires a couple inches even with that weight and chains, until the next chain link grabbed. I've since sold this to a friend who doesn't have a grade on his driveway and doesn't use the chains at all but still uses the weight for when it's icy. Now I have a JD x739 with 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steering with no weight or chains, this one does steer much better, especially when the plow is scrapping the ground, which seemed to be the largest hindrance to steering the front on the old one. Now the back does half the steering even when the front is planted.

      This tractor has a hydrostatic transmission, which has a go and a brake petal with continuously variable speed. Having used both, I would highly recommend the hydrostatic option over anything with gears, much easier to control.
