First and foremost, I just wanna say thank you. This is my first year as youth leader at my church and the youth that I work with, although they are a few, it’s difficult to get their attention. There are days where I give the message God‘s given me and they’ll listen for about five minutes then completely get distracted, there are days where they don’t listen at all and to be completely honest it’s very discouraging sometimes. However, I don’t let that hold me back from telling the truth like you said. There are some days where I don’t know what to teach because I’m too focused on them getting distracted and of course I don’t want that to happen, but like you said the important point here is to get the truth across to them. I know that the word says that the word of God doesn’t come back empty once it’s been given, and I trust God with my life that he’s doing the work in the youth. Thank you for this video because it’s really helped me regain my ground again because I didn’t know what to study for today’s Bible study and a lot of the time it really bothers me when I don’t know what to teach. Thankfully, the Lord gave me clarity and I’m gonna start studying now. Once again, thank you so much this really helped. May God bless you greatly. God bless your ministry, your family and your church and everyone in it. ❤️
Not going to lie, I instantly felt convicted when you stated to keep it Bible centered, not “you” centered. I’ve never done so to puff myself up or boast, but to share what the Lord has helped me through. Your right! Jesus doesn’t ask you to tell them about what He’s done for “you”, but to tell them what Jesus can do for them and the cost He paid to get us here. Amen brother. Amen. ⚔️💞
I agree… I also believe in giving your testimony at the right place is good as it gives others hope. It has helped me hearing how God has changed hearts and lives. Not boasting but sharing and being humble.. but I get it w/ teens. Blessings
I love the ideas, advice! One thing I did when I taught confirmation at the end of our lesson and after discussing and talking about the lesson. I had them do word search of words that had to do with our lesson. The enthusiasm in their faces made it all worth it. After they were done I would have them pick one word they circled and tell me how does this affect you in your life of a Christian!
That last point hit hard. I realized all the strategies I had were centered on being liked and fun rather than building a foundation based on truth. It's hard cause teens don't really hide their expressions so it's tempting to do things that make you "cool" in their eyes. Definitely going back to the drawing board. Thank you for this. God bless you. Love from Kenya
Thanks for reaching out! It definitely is hard, But it is so much better and the teens respect you so much more for it. I'll be praying for you as you seek God's wisdom on this 🙏
Thank you. I needed to hear this. Have been feeling a little discouraged because of parental push back. I know I need to be true to myself and honor my faith.
Im passing my teen years very soon and ive always just wanted the truth and i believe my peers did as well thank you for making being honest a highlight
Hi. Thank so much I'm doing my first Bible teaching tomorrow. In a high school with teenagers. I was not sure how to approach this wonderful opportunity, but your short video just enlighten me. I'm ready now. Thankyou Brother 🙏
I believe, the Lord brought me here.. im a new youth and young adults ministry head in our church. This is well noted.. thank you.. this very big help to me. God bless you🙏🏻
Thanks for this! I’m doing my first ever sermon at the end of this month for my church youth program. I’m not trying to bash on the other youth preachers at my church but sometimes it feels like they are just reading something to the audience and even though they put out a great lesson, a lot of the youth seem to daze off and not listen. I really want to hook people into this sermon and give them a message they can think of when they leave.
Great to hear from you! One thing I always warn people about is that we often fall into the same traps we see others fall into. So be sure to give much grace. Sometimes I will critique someone else only to find out later I’ve been doing it the same way but am blind to my own short comings 😊 with that being said, I’m excited you get the opportunity to preach! Remember that much prayer and the attempt to put into practice what you will preach is very important if you will preach authentically. And lastly, if you want the teens to listen, make sure your goal is helping them know God and not them being impressed with your skills or passion 😊 I pray God uses you to bring teens closer to Him!! And I can’t wait to see all that God does through you 😊😊 keep me posted on how your sermon goes!
I've been a youth pastor for about 5 months now, so still very new in how to preach to teenagers. These steps really helped me. Thank you so much Bro. Smith!
Man, this was some super helpful advice, God bless you and your family, needed this man, about few weeks ago I briefly gave my daughters bibles and mention that I would like to shared time with them in the Bible. I haven't started yet, but I plan to do so soon, so I've been praying about it.
You're absolutely right brother thanks for the tools and encouragement, all points are great and that last point is very powerful because is the Truth of who Jesus is, when you see them return after a hard message, you earn their trust, they start trusting the Lord, and most important get saved. Priceless but very rewarding because they see someone cared about their soul. Praise be to the Lord alone! God bless

Love how practical this is. Thanks for sharing brutha! Youth is definitely a tough cookie to crack at times. Something I've found pretty valuable is to not get stuck focused on programming (events, etc) and see where young people are at in life and then tailoring a message or even a series around that. Anyway, good stuff man :)
Great and important advice that also applies to anyone who interacts and gently guides young people in their Christian walk. I’m no longer a youth leader but I have children and grandchildren. This was a great reminder of how to approach everyday life lessons and/or devotions. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Had started a youth small group last week and actually I'm not a good speaker and don't know how to do this, but after this video I am given so many useful ideas for me to introduce the word of God to them.... so thankful that I had watched your video. Thank you so much ❤

This is very common and frustrating, when your senior in church is not delivering and you know that you know, but have no way of communicating . I don't know why christians have become so afraid of one another😢.I guess that cos our love has grown cold cos scripture says "perfect love casts out fear".opposite is also correct l"ack of love brings in fear". I would advise Benjamin to pray for courage and wisdom to approach his senior or that God opens a door for him to to minister to the kids and the senior pastor,by God's grace, accepts to learn something new from you(Benjamin). I sincerely pray that God makes a way for the poor kids whose time is being wasted

While these are valid approaches it doesn't necessarily make you convincing especially to skeptical kids like me. My parents made me go to church youth group to make me a Christian like them. I listened, even took notes but I also asked lots of questions which were welcome at first... but as time went on it annoyed the leaders and caused the some of the other kids to have doubts as well.
Hey there! I’m so glad you reached out. As a former agnostic I too was a skeptic. Now, The weight of responsibility when it comes to convincing you isn’t on your youth pastor. Jesus puts the weight of responsibility on the hearer. This video is simply to help the pastor communicate to those who want to listen 😊 would you consider yourself someone who wants to know God? If so, then a youth pastor who follows these steps will be engaging. But if you wish to be a skeptic, no one can force you to change no matter how dynamic they are. Have you read the parable of the sower?
@@GrantsPassBaptist-Church You were a former agnostic but I could quote many former Christians who rejected their faith and each of them has a testimony too. It comes down to ability to discern fact from falsehood. On that count skeptics have a much better track record than Christians. @@socksumi Friend, you avoided answering my question and simply gave more of your unvalidated opinion. Which is totally understandable. It is easy to arbitrarily claim that "skeptics have better track records than Christians" without furnishing any proof (and friend, you cannot give any proof without having an ontic referent (aka an objective reference point), you would merely be stating that skeptics tend to agree with your subjective view point (or opinion of how reality works), which is very circular and flooded with confirmation bias.) Notwithstanding, I truly do understand what you are struggling with, but as I read your comments, it doesn't seem as though you are searching for truth, it seems as though you are searching for what sounds smart and is easy to comprehend. So for you it will come down to how you answer these questions. 1. Who was Jesus? 2. Did He actually rise from the dead 3. If He did, what does that mean for us... Now, because it doesn't appear to me like you actually want answers to your questions, but simply desire to argue I will not continue this conversation on this platform. There is a difference between someone who is sincerely asking questions (even if we disagree) and someone who is an infinite skeptic.
