I love theology, but how’s that theology getting down to the children? You boast about having all the children in the service-wonderful. But what are they doing? My whole question is, what is the fruit of it? There’s a lot of pride now about not having youth groups or children's church. If you want to boast about that, fine, but I know places-like John MacArthur's church-where they have children talking about truths I don’t even hear adults talking about, and they learned it in that children's group. We need to rethink things. - Paul Washer
My daughter (6) definitely struggles when she is in church with us, but the amount of knowledge she has from us reading and explaining the Word at home is astonishing. She knows more than I did at 30. My point is dont rely on the service or the youth group. Its YOUR job to teach them.
Sunday schools in the UK did much work of bringing the gospel to the young and many were saved through that in years of old. Though many of our UK churches do not have Sunday schools anymore, there remain a few who still do, like my local church. 1500hrs Sunday afternoon, children of our fellowship as well as children in the community from non-Christian homes are gathered in by bus and taught Bible truths simplified in ways they can understand. Every Thursday and Friday evening during school term time, they are also gathered in age/gender specific meetings and taught the Bible. For instance, the theme for the Thursday and Friday meetings in our church for the just concluded school time was the Ten commandments. Each commandment broken down and taught over the course of time. The problem with most local churches especially in the US, as well as the UK really, is the deep neglect of souls that occurs in the local church. The very place God ordained for souls to be saved and fed is turned to a weekly performance house. Most of these unnecessary conferences all over the US should be replaced with shoring up and enriching the work in the local church. Christ said feed my sheep, not host/attend the shiniest conference. When the local church is strong and thriving, the fruit will be evident in the lives of the congregants who mostly would be spiritually sound true believers who lead/teach their families well and the impact of their honest walk with God spills out into every facet of their existence.
Thank you for this message, really appreciate it as this has been something that i've been wrestling with and trying to convey sincerely with good intention to the best of my knowledge to the reformed church that i am part of. For many times I have tried yet nobody really wants to listen or take it seriously, maybe because I am a nobody. And in a suttle way slowly but surely I am being dismissed. I was broken hearted, frustrated and sad and thinking to myself whether I am the one who is out of the line or being too critical for nothing. Yet I am convinced in all humility that I had a valid reason, and not something that I made up. And today I found this message and so so grateful that indeed I did not make anything up. Thank you Paul from the bottom of my heart. You clearly said it. Blessings 🙏
Best 15 minutes I’ve heard on TH-cam for a long time simple down to earth truth it was really beautiful. I’ve always felt even when I was at Bible College that the important thing was the very thing that Paul says here whether it is my essays or my sermons….. the question to ask would be do people really understand what I’ve said or written. I’ve always felt to find the lowest common denominator so that people could leave a service or a conversation having really learnt something that can help them become more like Jesus I thought what Paul said was brilliant
I always wanted to be part the Great Commission. Now I realize I need to repent for my arrogance. I haven't even begun to submit to the work of regeneration. Thank you for this video.
I’m glad that someone with Paul Washer’s influence is pointing out the major problems with the Reformed movement. Of course there are wonderful things about it. But it’s become a trend and has become synonymous with the word “biblical” when it’s not. There are some problems with it and we must conform to the Word and what is biblical, not what is Reformed (trademark).
Yes. We need to keep the end in view. Daily family worship: - bible reading, catechism and prayer is so important. It might be that the things said to children in their childhood become the means by which they are brought to faith (then or later), or at least they will know exactly what they are rejecting if they turn from Christ as adults.
I love this. For years I have had the feeling that family integrated churches were leaving the children behind. I like it when the children are in the service in the beginning and then leave to get an age appropriate lesson during the sermon.
Amen! If people don’t even understand what the preacher just said, it’s of no value. I remember a guy in our church back in the day who used to holler “make it plain!” to the preacher during the sermon. He was RIGHT..the preacher has to make the message of Christ so plain and simple that everyone can understand it.
Definitely a great deal of arrogance in the person who asked the question, seemed like he was boasting in what he did when he likely had no reason to boast. Then Washer comes in very humbly and answers the question, love it!
Parenting matters. And so does having qualified teachers in the church. Just having some person who is willing but ignorant of the Bible is a huge issue. Somone who just wants to read some silly feel good christianese email or whatever they got that week from facebook and listen to current Christian music while they play games. We took our kids from their ss class when the teachers, (friends of ours btw) read a silly viral email about how Monster energy drink was a devil drink. That was their lesson that day. I was so mad that they had wasted that precious hour spewing online nonsense that was easily debunked. That's when I realized that they were unfit teachers and their own children had even stopped going to church. It really made me reevaluate how churches pick not only their pastors but the ss teachers.
Do church God's way as He revealed it. The balance is men shouldn't get married until they are ready to lead. I think brother Paul would also agree with that.
How a *calvinist* should approach a person with *his* “gospel”: "Hi! I have good news for you! I don't know if God loves you, the most likely is that He hates you. I also don't know if He died for you on the cross, only a very few were chosen… But Listen!" Sad but true! This is the false gospel that is being preached in many churches. We need urgently to bring back the *powerful, simple* and *true gospel* summarized in *John 3:16.* If God says that He died for everyone, *it means that He died for EVERYONE:* *Isaiah 53:6* ; *John 1:29* ; *John 3:16,17* ; *John 4:42* ; *2 Corinthians 5:14,15* ; *Romans 5:18* ; *1 Timothy 2:6* ; *1 Timothy 4:10,11* ; *Titus **2:11* ; *1 John 2:2* ; *John 12:47* ; *1 John 4:14* ; *Hebrews 2:9* …etc Let's be very careful, let's not be found liars.
My concern children will only learn how to be entertained by Sunday school & doing crafts. Then get to church and know how to listen & discern to the WORD of GOD and not be ancie waiting for the sermon to end & get treats.
You can have youth and children’s ministries where the truth of Jesus can be taught through games and create fellowship peppered in the discipline of prayer and meditating in the word of God
Don't paint youth ministries with such a broad brush! I've got a church where families have youth that are not coming to church. I'm leading my church youth ministry and participating in a rural youth mission. The majority of kids who come to both of these youth groups are unchurched. We give them the Gospel and the opportunity to get Biblical literacy. It's a mission field not glorified childcare for teenagers! My pastor has a deep passion for the Gospel and preaches it every week. He and I are planning a sermon where I challenge the adults to invest in the youth of our community. These adults were the previous generation of youth, and the youth are the next generation of adults. The current children are the next generation of youth. I'm sad that the majority of adults are Biblically illiterate, don't care about the Gospel and, worst, don't seem to care enough for making disciples of youth OR adults.
I love the content but I'm disturbed by the way this video starts... My two cents is that whoever made this video SEEMS to put words in Paul's mouth in the beginning... and similar things I've noticed on your channel in the past. BE HONEST!😉
I had one of my kids teach Wednesday adult class. It is sad when church folks ooh and aah with what they learn from a child. They asked for her to teach again.

Wow... a lot of things Paul said I need to take a hard look at myself and repent. Thank you Paul for being a humble servant of Our Lord Jesus!

I think it was Spurgeon that said something like "a minister must be able to preach and teach to all ages."

Please post the whole video of this Q&A. So many helpful insights from Brother Paul. Thank you for sharing this portion! 🙌🏻
This is so so so incredibly important and relevant for us and our reformed churches today!
So precious, thank you Lord for Pastor Paul Washer!
I love this. For years I have had the feeling that family integrated churches were leaving the children behind. I like it when the children are in the service in the beginning and then leave to get an age appropriate lesson during the sermon.
Our last church did childrens church every other week and they were in service every other week. I thought that was an excellent way to do it
Powerful and Convicting

Glad this was said.

That was enjoyable and he made good points.
That’s was great. Please post more. Thank you

sane practical advice.
Good stuff.
Do church God's way as He revealed it. The balance is men shouldn't get married until they are ready to lead. I think brother Paul would also agree with that.
Saying that a child is going to have almost no social interaction except with brothers and sisters is insane. Do you hear yourself?
Were you truly listening to what he was saying?
He is identifying a problem and calling them to reexamine the idea of a children's church.

Same
You’re gonna have to reconcile much when you’ve replaced Churchianity, with true fellowship and discipleship under Christ.
