Tension a Bandsaw Blade: The "Flutter" Method - WOOD magazine

- After installing a bandsaw blade, it's important to set the blade tension properly. Built-in tension gauges on your saw may be unreliable, so use this method, called the "flutter" method to ensure the optimal tension. A poorly tensioned blade can lead to wandering cuts, poor blade tracking, and even a broken bandsaw blade.

*Making a hardwood fence for the miter makes all the difference **MyBest.Tools** Tune the saw with a combination square. Adjust the laser so its in line.😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣See the photos.Every part in this saw is adjustable.😎😭*
A very clear demonstration
thanks
James
Very well explained thank you.
Could you show us where the factory tension setting was?
Very well explained ... thanks
WOW, clear concise method. THANK YOU. Gail Plymouth 🇬🇧. X keep safe
Nicely done
A technique I knew nothing about even though I understand the physics of vibrating strings under tension including resonance, which is what the fluttering is.. Very interesting indeed. I'll give it a try when I've finished refurbishing my bandsaw. It would have been helpful to show the adjustment setting at the end to compare with the setting at the start - something I can't do as my saw is a long obsolete small model with no tension scale. Just have to set it by guesswork which is where the fluttering technique should be helpful.
nice, tks a lot
OMG, thanks you very much.
what about flutter on the back side blade ? the one running thru the guard ? I'll assume if its fluttering I can bring the tension up a bit ?
How to adjust the blade to fit properly in the insert on a porter cable 14” bandsaw. It’s so far off I can’t use my table insert.
Thank you
Would this adjustment method work on a smaller (±9~10") band saw with so little of the blade exposed and free to flutter?
VERY NICE DEMONSTRATION SIR. I LOVE MY BANDSAWS I COULD NOT BUILD MY GUITARS WITHOUT THEM. I WAS GETTING FLUTTER ON THE 14" I USE FOR CUTTING SHAPES WITH AND THOUGH I'VE BEEN USING BANDSAWS FOR A WHILE THIS SOMEHOW SLIPPED MY MIND SO BEFOR I GOT TO CARRIED AWAY TEARING THE THING APPART I THOUGHT I WOULD CHECK SOME VISEOD OUT AND BOOM YOU SOLVED MY PROBLEM. ITS FUNNY HOW THE MORE WOODWORKING SKILLS YOU AQUIRE YOU CAN STILL FORGET THE BASICS HAHA. THANKS
is that a grizzly? Thanks for the vid sir!
NOW I CAN FINISH THE BANDSAW BOX I WAS BUILDING FOR MY GRANDMA.
Whats the brand on that saw ????
grizzly
