    Bandsaw Blade ............. amzn.to/2UVFXak (says meat blade but great for wood and super cheap)
    This is what i learned from watching a 35 minute video by Alex Snodgrass, about setting up your bandsaw. I was having issues with blade drift no matter what other method i tried. By sharpening the blade and adjusting the top wheel differently i was able to get much better cuts.

    Dave, may I thank you very much. I had an issue with my bandsaw after I put a new blade in it. It started making a really bad noise which I knew didn`t sound right. I left it for ages hoping I could get someone who knew what they were doing as far as adjustments were concerned but I never found anyone. I decided to look on TH-cam and saw your procedure. And I`m extremely happy to tell you after following your Sequence of adjustments I have it once again running smoothly with no horrible noises coming from it. So a Big massive thankyou from the UK.

    I waisted 3 hrs tinkering with my small Axminster bandsaw trying to get the tension right, then I came in and watched your video now it can cut a half millimetre veneer off a 3ft length length of 2x2 .
    Great advice

    Man, I am so glad I found this video!! For 5 years I’ve dealt with my bandsaw wandering and diving off my line. I honestly just quit using it because I was so fed up. Last night I found this video and made adjustments as it takes about and man it cuts PERFECT. One thing I would say though: a bandsaw blade is like $10.. don’t waste an hour of your time sharpening an old blade, just go buy one

    • @MSRWorkshop
      @MSRWorkshop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is partially true. If you’re running a blade where is tracks entirely on the tire it’s fine, but if you run a large blade you run the risk of hitting the rim of the wheel ..... some saws don’t have a rim, like most smaller saws, then you’re ok. On large saws there is a 1/8 tall metal rim that is in the front and back of the tires and with large blades you don’t want it hitting.

    Thank you for the video! I too have a small benchtop bandsaw with narrower wheels. When I saw the Snodgrass video, I assumed that the bit about centering the bottom of the gullet pertained only to bigger saws with wide enough wheels to still support to the whole blade even with it moved back farther - something like a 3/8” blade would have the back of it hanging off of the wheel. I see that it has still improved things for you though, so I’ll give it a try. Thank you again!

    This video was in my recommended feed lol but still nice to share info, on my old Rockwell beaver, I shimmed out the bottom wheel bracket the thickness of a fender washers, Just so when I have a 1 inch resaw blade, it does not drive itself off the bottom wheel. but you are 100% correct, as long as the gullets are in the middle of the top wheel, no drift happens which means less blade tension is needed and longer tool and blade life. Cheers Mate!

    What reason bandsaw blande broke when cutting metal.
    Thanks

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe a metal cutting bandsaw should be spinning much slower, like 300 versus 1,000. And i forget the units it's not rpm its like fpm or something. But whatever, when cutting metal it should spin much slower.

    Dave, I get an awful grinding noise when I push the wood through the blade. It appears as if the back of the blade is rubbing against the wheel (bearing?) . I’ve tightened everything I can but the noise still persists. Your thoughts?

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's normal. The rubbing of the blade on the bearing, maybe not the grinding noise though. Maybe just oil the bearing so that it spins a little quieter. Though it will probably gum up with sawdust...

  • @dianakesl1814

    I'm new to bandsaws. I just bought a 1952 Homecraft 10" saw to learn with. I painted it and I believe got a good deal for $50 bucks if I can get it to work. New blade new stand w/wheels. I watched as many info videos as I can find to get familiar with my saw. My blade keeps moving over to where it's going to jump off. I've adjusted my blade first then I adjusted the guides. I tightened the blade to where I feel it's 1/8" when I tap it. Could my tires be bad? They look ok. Drift is my problem. (Rusty)

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's that old, maybe the rubber on the wheels have worn off. The wheels need to be convex shape for the blade to ride on them. you could maybe use tape or something to build up the convex shape on the wheel. Kind of like this video: th-cam.com/video/TNuzi-jMXoY/w-d-xo.html
