I was living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when this movie was shot. It was a treat for everyone to see him on set working. Thalaivar is the only Superstar! Thalaivar Nerantharam.

As a Maharashtrian, this was the first South Indian movie I saw in theatre. I fell in love with how South Industries do their cinematography and music with swag.
That's the key thing, every note of the music screams "badass", from the get-go, apt for a superstar legend like Rajinikanth.
Wonder if you haven't seen Roja, bombay, Jeans, indian, they are Tamil movies later dubbed in hindi. Come on Tamil movies were truly pan indian even before the term was even coined
You can expect this kind of music and cinematography from Tamil industry only.
But the pity is most of the North Indians misunderstands tamil movies with Telugu movies. Years of years, Telugu industry gains the credit which belongs to Tamil movies.

One of my favorite Rajinikath film ever mainly coz how PA ranjit treated him especially with an entirely new landscape for mainstream Tamil cinema. It got criticism mainly because people excpected that typical flashy commercial treatment to it. But at least for me it was so refreshing to see Rajini in an entirely different set up with a badass age appropriate role for the most part. And Santosh narayanan was just the cherry on top.

Please watch this movie. It is like how Tamil people in Malaysia and Singapore are treated. I watched this first day first show in Singapore and the entire cinema erupted in applause on how Superstar said that awesome dialogue at the climax on how Tamilains will continue to work hard and progress.
The tamil unity between Malaysians and Singaporeans is very strong due to our common history.

Even my estate born and bread dad couldn't relate to this movie. A girl even wrote an article in a major paper not to even think of part 2. This is what happens when the maker and star actor have zero clue about other culture. Could not even ask our Malay and Chinese friends to watch and what more with those who have intermarried for generations? Stop glorifying this movie. Go ask for real opinion. A gangster movie should just be that, rustic cult movie.All the hype wasted.

But my dad can relate to this movie cause his dad was a Don in the 1950s who collected protection money and funded many Hindu temples in Singapore and was friends or enemies with certain Chinese clans as put in the movie. I heard so many of those type of stories from young. This movie painted a good realistic picture. Of course my grandfather gave all this up in his 60s and remained low-profile in the 1970s. But this is an excellent movie that was well done based on the stories I heard of actual gangsters in Malaysia and Singapore

Guys y'all Will enjoy this movie definitely it's pure style and no bullshit duet songs..it was a movie perfect character according to his age and style with his mass.. ignore those whom are saying tat it was a failure..the movie was good ppl in India couldn't understand what's going on in Malaysia so they weren't interested to watch..but i can guarantee y'all would enjoy the movie very much..there were many great massy actions moments in the movie fight scenes were great especially the climax fight top notch 👍🔥 give it a try korbin

You will be disappointed to watch Kabali if you are just expecting the usual Rajini Mass entertainer where u get to see him whoop Asses in style. This turned out to be an emotional melodrama with some action and stylish moments here and there. So I'd say you Avoid this

Well, If you're interested in a mass action film.. I won't recommend this movie. It's more like a drama. Action sequences are good but they're very few and the movie is slow paced as it's more about him getting back / finding his family after his release from prison. Watch kaala or petta (If you're interested in recent one's). If you're okay with slightly old mass action film of rajni watch "Sivaji: The Boss"
I actually liked the drama and the story. It was just as good as any of Tarantino's Gangster drama.
People were expecting Kabali to be like Petta but it turned out to be a gangster drama. You really could see both Rajini the actor and Rajini the superstar in this movie.
