Of course, that is how I keep my toned calves! Rolling carts are a great idea, might have to put that at the top of the list.

Two true stories:
1.) When you said let’s see what’s behind this mystery shop door I honestly said out loud “I hope it’s a room filled with people being trained like in a James Bond movie”, then the exact clip I was thinking of polled up. One of my favorite things about your format is you’ll make an obscure reference, then a pause while I get to try to place it, then the satisfaction of seeing if I got it. This is pleasing to me.
2.) The way Jonathan Katz-Moses responds to the funnel is how I shall henceforth and forevermore enter rooms.

You got me in trouble while at the library with this video. The necklace and clamp rack caused me to forget about my surroundings while laughing. So rad to see your growth!
I don't know how often you run your X-carve but when I had mine running all the time while working on other things the noise would kill me. I built an enclosure and also made a sound dampening enclosure for my shop vac that was acting as my dust collector for it. You can set it up to turn on with the machine which is a nice feature. Depending on if you're like me or not I tend to overdo everything so projects like that turn into larger undertakings than they otherwise should but might be beneficial.
I'm a minimalist, I like to have a solid assembly table and whatever surfaces are needed for functionality with my tools. Otherwise, I enjoy open spaces and don't like tons of furniture or other things like that around. I try to have everything in my shop be multi-use and eliminate as many extraneous objects as possible.
You have a tremendous space and I'm so jealous of your overhead door!

I vote for vertical limber storage if you have the ceiling height, which you do. As soon as you get two layers of material with horizontal storage its a pain to get something on the bottom of the stack and usually everything falls off but the piece your trying to get. Congrats on the new spot!

Yeah for Greg Space. Looks great. I would recommend a partition wall. Hang tablesaw jigs one side. Other side is Greg space and room for his friends, Dedicated dust collection.
Who knows what Greg would get up to if he was left alone in another room! Though, that could be pretty nice...maybe a long term plan.

I am curious if you have ever thought of the combination tools. Like the Hammer C3 31 or Minimax C 30G? What are your thoughts on them? The seem expensive but if you consider the number of tools they cover, it might save you money. I know people usually dont buy all there tools at once and buy them as their budget/needs allow. But especially for a small shop it seems like a huge space saver and you only have to run your dust collection to one machine.
I have definitely considered getting a newer combination machine. I think they are great, especially if space is limited. Might be something I consider in the future.
Wow, nice work. FAST. I'm about 8 years into setting up my shop. I'm about 50% there, hehe. Hard to tell but at 20 feet wide it seems like it would make sense to have that second assembly table on its own and have the CNC on the wall, maybe around where your red toolbox is, toolbox could even be underneath it. I can just see it being beneficial to not have to compromise the ability to get at the table from all sides.
Yeah, I am definitely going to have to ponder it for a while. I am thinking a new table with the CNC underneath, similar to what I have, just with a much better system to set up, and use the CNC machine.

Shaun, love the shop - it must feel great to have all that space.
Since you asked for suggestions, I'll offer what little I have:
1. The idea to have all tools on one side is phenomenal - I try to work this way, too and it makes life simpler. But, that dust hose on the floor would drive me nuts. Would it be worth running one line overhead and dropping it down on the other side of the saw? No trip hazard, same great suction.
2. Before filling all the empty space, live with it for a while. After making a really large project a while back, I lived in my (much smaller than your) space for a while and it gave me time to think things through more systematically about what works best where and what do I really need? Plus, open space can't be overrated if you're working on large projects. (Which I know you don't do a lot of.)
3. Even if you were a crappy woodworker, I would still watch you because your dry humor is freakin' hi-larious! But you're a great woodworker, so it makes your videos even more compelling.

Thanks Dan! Yeah, the hose across the floor definitely isn't ideal, but it might be one of those things that doesn't get immediate attention, we will see how badly it annoys me. And yes, I agree about living with the open space for awhile, because right now I am loving it!

dear Mr Boyd, hi Shaun, as a European woodworker, I can only highly recommend to use a European style slider-equipped table saw rather than the US ones. I agree it has quite a footprint, but this cannot be an issue in such a spacious workshop. It is an investment but worth every dollar. And these machines also come in 5 fold combination machines: panel saw/ jointer thicknesser/ spindle moulder (some models also accept router bits) and optionally a horizontal morticer. BTW love your videos and more importantly love what you're making.
Yes, I would love to get a sliding table saw! Especially now with more room. Unfortunately it just isn't in the budget, but maybe someday! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching, Bart!
I've been looking for a new way to setup my shop. I'm thinking a simple run of dust collection should work like this. I have pretty much the same machines as you. I like them all on one wall. Plus, the way my shop is wired, they're all on one wall. Can you link some of that dust collection stuff you used too?
Yeah, it is so easy to overcomplicate stuff like this, I am loving the setup so far! All the ducting is sewer drain PVC which I got at a local supplier, but here are links to some of the other parts:

Shaun! My shop is 24' x 40' with a 12' ceiling. You will love the size and hope you have allot of ceiling space as well. I have mine set up a little different - but everything is [rollable] - is that a word?

Stoked to see the new shop, it’s looking great. My two cents on the second table is to keep it fairly small. Maybe just big enough to give Greg the room he needs. That lets you keep a chunk of your open space available, and let’s you reach across your whole table while you’re working there. If it’s the same height as your table saw it could be used as infeed support if the need arises. I’m not a big fan of mobile bases, but it could be a good option here. If you need more space or if Greg needs some alone time you could push the table into the corner with the odd locked door.
I agree, I definitely don’t want it to take up too much space. I am loving the openness so far, so we will see what I decide. Thanks for the input!

Nice! Running two 4" gate open at a time is not a issue for you (table saw/drum sander- I see only one blast gate on the saw hose)?
For the most part it is fine. If the filter on the dust collector is really jammed up with dust, it can get a little weak, but now with the shorter run of ducting, it is pretty great! Thanks for watching!

I like to build kayaks and the shop I work in is 20' X 24', so open space in the conditioned part of the shop, is at a premium. I'm also only 5'9" so a work table at 36" in height can sometimes be a bit high for me.
Don't know if it would be helpful, but my solution was to create 3 rolling storage units. (actually, with the exception of the chop saw station, everything is on wheels in the shop, now that I think about it ;-)
Two at 2'X6' and one at 2'X4'. All are 22 1/2" off the ground and I can arrange them in different configurations. (4'X8', 2'X12', etc.) The 6' ones live under the chop saw bench, down one wall of the shop, and are easy to wheel out into the open space, when required as a work table, with their contents still accessible.
The smaller one kind of floats around, in front of the roll up garage door, with the Rigid sander and the 12" thickness planer perched on top, until needed.
Now that I've typed all that, I really can't see how it might be of use other than once Greg gets a new home, you might consider having rollout storage units, where he lived, under your assembly table that could double as mobile work surfaces in the shop, but the hose from the TS would get in the way.
Oh well... Great to see the new shop mostly set up. Looking forward to seeing more projects. I'm especially interested in learning more about your design inspiration. I'm comfortable doing it with houses, but struggle to do it with furniture.

Thanks Greg! Yeah, I think rolling carts of some sort would definitely make sense. I love having the open space right now, and that might allow me to have the best of both worlds. But that would definitely mean figuring out a better ducting system for the table saw. We will see! Always a work in progress.

I liked seeing your jigs hanging on the wall in your old shop. You have crazy ceiling height so maybe you can use that to your advantage for lumber storage instead of giving up floor space. It probably wouldn’t be a terrible thing to keep the open space to make room for bigger projects (tables). Love the tool wall. And the funnel call! Wish I was in the ATL!

I'm trying to develop/improve a plan for the use of my space (30'x40'), so I'm always looking for good ideas & inspiration. Aswum would love to have that space. You have nice high ceilings you could build a row of shelving with 1 of those library ladder on wheels that run a track for you know stuff you like to have on hand but don't use all the time finishes, off cuts wives and wot not. Great channel 👍

Where do you go to find shop space like that? Did you just search for warehouse space online, or did you get a realtor to help you find it? I’m interested in finding a similar type of space so I can move out of my garage but not having much luck so far.
Yeah, I have found both of my shop spaces online. First one was Craigslist, this one was on a local commercial property website. It is a little tough, but patience is what paid off for me. Also just driving around industrial areas, a lot of them have "for lease" signs on them, so that could work, too. Good luck!

@Shaun I see you have the exact same Ulmia workbench. The front vise on my closes in the right sooner than the left end. Do you have the same issue? If so how do you resolve it? Thanks much!
I actually haven't noticed that issue on mine. One thing I always do though, is if I am holding something in the vise to one side, I will put an equally thick piece on the other side of the vise so that the vise jaws don't pull in unevenly. Maybe that will help?
Only suggestion I have is store your wood closer to your saw/assembly table. That's where the process begins and would make the work flow more linear. Place your planer next to the jointer.

When someone comes to your business and you don’t look up and see them, would a buzzer or better yet, a flashing light, be a good way to be alerted that you have a customer?
I definitely wanted to do that with my old shop, I just never got around to it. The new spot should be ok, but maybe it is something I add down the line.

Can you suspend a dust collection pipe overhead to the SawStop and drop the flex hose from above to get the hose off the floor?

Certainly makes for a much more defined work area. Looking good. I think I would have installed an overhead collection system for the table saw if it was possible to find a convenient drop point. And now you are in a commercial premises recommend some correct foot ware.Sneakers are for hobbiests and you are now elevated to industrial. You need safety shoes in your new professional working environment. Be safe.
Yeah, getting a better dust collection route to the table saw is on the list. And maybe I can talk to Vans and see if they can make a steel toe version for me.

Whatever you add to that big space put it in wheels so you can get it out if the way! I can see that space being really useful 😁

it's amazing how you can create such beautiful furniture with relatively small machine. the only big machine I see is the Sawstop, the other are normal size. great!!

#2 Tghten up your work triangle to save steps.
#3 Vertical lumber storage.
#4 Move saw and table inward leaving over head door area free and clear for customer pick up
#5 Buy a Yamaha S202 Stereo receiver with BT
#6 I will email you my MTM speaker plans (drew by hand on graph paper) no pdf's here😀
#7 Buy two SA100 subwoofer plate amps.
#8 Buy two Dayton Audio 8" classic subs
#9 Order drivers and misc parts needed for custom diy speakers built from non-pdf graph paper plans.
