A fine remnder of the great days of Hollywood music scores. Reminds me of the exchange between Max Steiner
and Korngold, reported by Andre Previn. MS remarked that their music was sounding alike. To which Korngold
responded: You are getting better and I am getting worse!

One of Korngolds best given a great performance by this fine orchestra

Beautiful, I wish they were playing the full suite with the other movements. Just stunning music!!!! I can hear shades of Richard Strauss in the orchestrations and sheer romanticism of it.

Both had a wonderful "nobility" about them that makes a person want to stand up and salute.

I just discoverted this amazing performance of a great film score by one of the greatest film score composers ever. From now on, when I make the case that the RCO is the best overall symphony orchestra in Europe, this will be my first "exhibit". Love it , love it, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great choice for a ringtone. Thinking about the opening of "Vertigo" as my ringtone.

Korngold wrote many musical soundtracks for great films, mostly in the 1940s and 1950s, but most would consider this his magnum opus and for obvious reasons. He was part of that magnificent group of European composers who came to Hollywood and literally superimposed the great post modern romantic sound of Rachmaninov, Brahms, Wagner and Tchaikovski onto the great movies all cherish.

The sound you hear is more late Romanticism, directly evolved from the lavishly orchestrated Fin-de-siècle Viennese music, which is only logical considering Korngold was a protégé of Mahler, Strauss and Puccini. Regarding his film scores, Sea Hawk rightfully is a favorite indeed, along with Adventures of Robin Hood, although most would consider one of his operas to be his magnum opus, eg Die tote Stadt or Wunder der Heliane. Also don’t forget his brilliant orchestral works and his Violin Concerto.

He came to Hollywood in 1935 and decided to stay. Captain Blood (1935) began his connection to the swashbuckling Errol Flynn. His score for Anthony Adverse (1936) won an Oscar and another came for The Adventurers of Robin Hood (1938). Korngold died at the age of 60 in 1957.

Just WOW! A wonderful rendition of one of the best pieces of cinematic music that has even been written. Goosebumps with the deep brass and swelling strings in the closing bars of this masterpiece. Thank you for posting!

Absolutely brilliant! And an intriguing choice of tempi, some much slower than in the actual film score.

So true, along with Max Steiner and occasionally Franz Waxman. The FOX and SEAHAWK fanfares are the two most famous and well recognized of all movie intros. Powerful.
