I find it very interesting that Phillip said it "felt like the Isles were trying to hide" the glyphs from him, since it seems like the Isles kind of volunteered them to Luz (especially the light glyph).
Same! The isles/titan has seemingly chosen Luz as its champion against the false prophet who has harnessed its powers for nefarious reasons. I wonder if we're going to see just how Philip realized these glyphs existed in the first place. Did he steal them from his brother? Was he entrusted by the isles before revealing his true colors?

Their is something else important with this episode. Philip says that the island is trying to hide glyphs from him where as Luz found all of them in only a few months at most. I think this shows that Belos can’t actually communicate with the titan and that it is just propaganda.
Really good point! Hoping that detail is indicative of Luz eventually being the one who can communicate with the Titan! Luz who was initially trapped in the demon realm, subsequently making a choice to stay to learn magic, find purpose in life, and throughout her journey experiences the wonders of the boiling island. If Luz eventually actually communicates with the Titan it would be such a fantastic foil to Phillips character- someone who was likely trapped without choice, cursed at some point by magic and who’s life purpose already was/ became the destruction of magic (at minimum wild magic). The whole time is circular thing in this universe really makes it feel like the Titan was trying to stall Phillip as long as possible, waiting for Luz.
I starting to think the Day of Unity is Belos' second attempt at this plan; the first one having been foiled by his brother and/or the mystery witch who "lured" them to the Isles stealing the completed portal door. After this episode, I looked back at the drawing we saw in 'Yesterday's Lie', and noticed that Philip was depicted standing back from the witch, with what seemed to be a glyph in one hand and a torch in the other (similar to a torch and pitchfork). His brother on the other hand was shaking hands with them, with what seemed to be Little Rascal/Flapjack on his shoulder. If that is the case, it seems like his brother is being set up as more friendly and open-minded towards witches and magic, which would set the stage for Phillip betraying/killing him.
My current theory on how the brothers came to be stranded in the Demon Realm is this: the mystery witch fell into Eclipse Lake and was transported to the human realm, possibly being injured in the process. Their palisman went to find help and found the currently unnamed Wittebane brother, who brought them back to Gravesfield to treat them. At some point, Phillip likely noticed that they weren't human and let that fact slip to the townsfolk, who chased the witch out. The brothers followed, the unnamed one being worried about the witch and Phillip being worried about his brother. Out of desperation, the witch dove back into the water with the brothers close behind, and all three ended up in Eclipse Lake. If I'm remembering correctly, natural gateways created by Titan's Blood leaking into water are temporary, so it likely closed not too long after, which would be why the Wittebanes couldn't just go for an inter-dimensional swim back to Gravesfield.
Since Belos only knew plant, fire and ice and we saw he used glyphs on himself it would make sense for for it to take a mud form. Water+earth=mud, mud+fire=boiling mud and Belos has a weird bubbly mud thing with his curse. Then glyphs don't work in the human realm, so maybe part of Belos plan is by going to the human realm so it'll cancel the glyph magic he used on himself.
So something I love pointing out is that Lilith is back to wearing glasses (which we already knew) and her hair is starting to curl/poof out again. I love that. She's becoming who she really was again. And glad you pointed out the white robes. Not to many people seem to notice that. Also, the mark of Philip's nose grew while he was talking to the Collector
"A curse of feathers and mud" The curse of feathers of course refers to the Clawthorne sisters. While the instances we've seen of Belos' deteriorating body must indicate 'the mud'. "A betrayal of blood." We all assumed the betrayal refered to Eda and Lilith. What if it refered to Philip and his brother? Lilith had no idea how the curse would react. She thought it would be a temporary hex. And was too ashamed to do anything after it was committed. While we don't know for sure what happened to Philip's brother, he has shown to be a manipulative back-stabber. Exactly the kind to betray his blood.
The poem definitely refers to Eda and Lilith, but I completely agree that it could also refer to Philip and bro or Belos and Hunter. Another double meaning line is "two hearts of stone." If Hunter is a grimwalker, then his heart is literally a galderstone. Belos, on the other hand, has a metaphorical heart of stone through his cruelty.
This is what I've been thinking. If we had more time, I think we could have seen a parallel between Caleb and Philip and Lilith and Eda, and how Belos did the exact opposite by unaliving his own brother after being given a chance. It's really poetic
the ribcage thingy in Philip's lair is an unfinished grimwalker. In _Eclipse Lake,_ we saw that a grimwalker requires a galdorstone as the heart, palistrom wood as keratin, and selkidomus scales as something (among other things). In the diagram in Philip's lair, the cube, which resembles a galdorstone, points to the heart. two triangles that kind of look like scales point to the skin, and we see an image of a selkidomus on the same wall just off to the right. The final clue is that the book from _Eclipse Lake_ and the diagram in Philip's lair both have the same image of a disembodied pair of eyes around the other images.

Another interesting theory I've seen is that he's keeping Hunter as a "gift" to the Collector (personally I still think it's the sacrifice theory, but both have interesting edges to them)
I really hope hunter retains some of his base components' quirks. Like, Does he have a ticklish spot on his ear? Does he vomit the ambergris stuff? If you sed a plant glyph, would you be able to control his body since it's partially wood?
About Azura, I'm pretty sure Luz is going to write it in the past to make her love it in the present, thus matching Belos' ploy. After all, they're not all that different.
Flora does seem like the type to value the thrill of a story over its truth (being a celebrity adventurer introduces a couple of biases since she would rely on keeping an audience to maintain her popularity), which might explain a reason for her being willing to reinvent history n such for Belos. I literally love how Lilith punches Phillip in the nose and he heals it and in the first reveal of belos we got he has a bump on his nose where the palisman magic healed Liliths punch

Since Phillip's brother looks exactly like hunter it's clear that he is a grimwalker. So I think that the brother was probably killed by a witch or something that has to do with wild magic and in his sorrow Phillip went insane and started hating witches

I've been theorizing about glyph-based technology being used for Belos' staff since his battle against Luz in season 1. It's seeming a lot more likely now!
‘Wild magic’ is just magic, and magic seems to come from two main sources: the bile sac in witches and nature (a.k.a. glyphs). Belos likely created the term to scare witches and get them to join a coven as part of his rise to power. Witches have access to all kinds of magic, but the coven seal cuts off their access to all except the magic their seal represents. He brought back Basilisks so he could study how they absorbed magic from living things, which could include witches. So knowing all this, my theory is on the Day of Unity, Belos will gather all the coven witches inside the Titan’s head, then paralyze them and absorb all their magic for himself, whether it’s to make the portal powerful enough to bring the Titan to Earth (if that vision proves true), allow him to fully control his Beast form, or to just gain more power. That would leave only Covenless witches and glyphs to fight him, and we know he said there’s a dark fate for any witch who doesn’t join a coven. So the final battle could be Belos harnessing all that magic (which could involve him going full Beast mode) versus the Bad Girl Coven (Luz, the Owl House team, and all covenless witches) using their magic and glyphs. Glyphs only work in the Isles, getting their magic from the Titan, so if the Titan were brought to Earth then glyphs would likely work on Earth so long as they stay on the Titan.
But why would Phillip/Belos need to steal the portal if he was the one who built it? Could this have something to do with Eda and her owl beast? The mural on Edas ceiling does depict some kind of owl deity, and the design of the door matches the design of the Owl House. Also I wonder what would have happened to Phillip if he made his glyph tattoo with all four symbols? It makes me wonder if Luz ever tried the same thing she might become the true voice of the Titan.

I never noticed that when Phillip activates the collector's disk thingy at the end of the episode, the injury on his nose from Lilith grows bigger. I feel like this is clearly indicating that that small scar will eventually grow into the face-wide scar that Belos has in the present day.
I think that the day of unity is really just the day we’re he gets to reunite with his dead brother. It seemed apathetic when ever the subject of going to back to the human realm came up both in the past and present. He even said he needed the collector for something else, but was willing to give them info in exchange for a sacrifice. Glyph magic doesn’t work in the human realm so he is planning to transport the titans skull into the human realm so there he can use magic. With that he can use whatever spell the collector told him to revive his brother. Since it might be that he needs to revive him in the dimension his soul was born in. The collector could be like a scale of life and death that needs multiple sacrifices just to bring back one person. Which could be why he is gathering everyone on the day of unity he plans on sacrificing all of the people on the isles. The reason he could have also been so interested in basilisk is because he was planning on draining all the people of their magic to power is portal and revival machine. Finally hunter will be the new vessel for belos brother.
the glyph patters belos were making resembles so much as atoms and the fire glyhps are whats holding the spells together by being the main source of "power" to make sure nothing bad happens to them
I can't help but feel as if there would be some repercussions coming towards Luz. Afterall it wasn't a coincidence that she would end up in the boiling isles in the first place. And even after seeing this latest episode, Luz will soon find out in time that because of her interfering in the past to find out about Phillip Wittebane, she maybe be the cause for the current events that's happening in the future/present such as wild magic,Eda being curse and attacking her father and so on.
On the thought of Belos putting Lilith and Eda against each other; I have noted several times how the 'enlistment' list was blank. Yet for some reason, they had to fight each other. Plus, Philip is working with *The Collector.* And it's *The Collector* that created the Owl Beast curse. I'm not really sure it's an 'Owl Beast' curse. Eda's father Dell carved Owlbert because the owl is Eda's spirit totem (in theory). Lilith shares the curse, but she doesn't become an owl beast. She's a... Umm... (I'm not sure *what* she is). But it isn't an owl beast. So then, what *is* the curse? Does it cause your spirit totem to take monstrous physical form? Just a few inane questions to get tongues wagging.
there are a LOT of spells that can come in to play and I wonder what ones we'll see again before the series ends. What are your thoughts on Time Travel Body Swap Memory alteration Memory visitation Spying on people seeing the future shape shifter decoy shrinking living walking owl house teleportation transformation in to an other form combing two spells invisibility death by music I feel like any of these could cause a lot of drama , end the series or even instantly change the relationship between two characters. and they can be used by any one. they may have already been used by some one. Okay so clearly Belos has messed with the history books, and he took 400 years for his plans despite already seeming to be pretty far along back in the 1600s. WHAT IF... he used the time pools to get several hundred years into the future? He could have planted seeds for whatever historical progression of society he needed, to then just skip to the good part. My guess is that he orchestrated the downfall of wild magic, then came back into the timeline by the time the savage ages were truly savage, creating a much easier palette to apply his coven system. It also explains where he disappeared to in the time period between Philip's disappearance and Belos' rise to power
Time travel is funny. I saw the same events and came away with the opposite conclusion. The future will sort is out, but it's fun to speculate. 1) While I'm sure the guy turns into Belos, I'm unsure it's Phillip. The man who would be emperor didn't answer to Phillip. He recognized the name, but didn't confirm. 2) While planting the book may be a long game play. It is exceedingly risky. Especially since, if he can rewrite the district approved version of history he could have just added Phillip to the school's curriculum. Phillip's journal is knowledge he has no control over and handing it to a presumed enemy is like giving Luz a loaded gun. (This is also why S1 should have had Belos bend the rules for Luz to attend Hexside instead of a little Mary Sue obstacle clearance.) 3) My guess this is Alastair Witterbane. He joined his brother Phillip on this journey. Phil fell in love with the Boiling Isles. Al hated it. Phil started a life, but continued working on a way back to Earth for his brother. Al started fearful, but then grew hateful of the Boiling Isles. He wanted to destroy the place, but didn't have the power, so enter Emperor Belos. With some subterfuge and glyphs he climbs his way to power. Creates the coven system to keep the powers in check and build toward the day of Unity.

Its been my theory for a while that the way Belos's techno magic works, is with a complex display of all glyphs that could work together, overlaid, and then only activates the parts needed to form a particular glyph, to cast that spell. This must however necessitate that there is some other magic at play (possibly more glyphs) casting a magic capable of reading his intentions and directing the glyph circuitry in his staff, otherwise for every individual action of it, he'd have to do something to manipulate what glyphs are actually active.
Also what's with the palisman remains? The one he chugs on screen just dissolves into idk.. magic? But why are there others just laying around, broken?
when you talked about the time travel part it reminded me of 'butterfly effect' from the disastrous life of saiki and that traveling back from time and changing a bit of something has a huge effect on the future

for time travel you forgot the fourth small things change, reversed back to normal, no changes, dramatic changes or time-travel in the past to explain some history or future. but someone parts can't never change.

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?
i like that recent animations (The owl house, infinity train), is taking a different aprouch to different universes and actually showing how humans have a tendancy to destroy everything.
I wonder why Phillip tattooed glyphs on his arm in the first place considering it's causing him pain, my guess is that he was in a tight spot and he felt like he had no choice
@@WorldWeave my tinfoil hat theory is that the glyphs are the result of Philip Fullmetal Alchemist-ing himself to try and bring his brother back, and "Belos" is his brother(/'s consciousness) based on the fact that belos and philip's voice are layered when sucking on talisman juice.

luz can make a staff (if she makes a palsiman) she can use glyths to power it up makeing her able to use stronger and premade combines or a menu basically to make combines like a chart

She could honestly just go back in time before the door was broken and sneaky use it and yeah she’d be stuck back in that time but like it was only a few months ago (not really that bad), and it’s not like all she did there has been undone or anything like how time altering stuff usually goes, it just hasn’t happened yet. Or do tricky shenanigans with taking the door back to the future, use it, get her home, then get third parties to take it back to the correct time. But the second option sounds like it’s more susceptible to King mucking it up
I like that belos uses magic like batteries and parts. Belos eats the palismen made of trees, uses creature parts to create hunter, and is pushing a narrative that there’s an idea of ‘magic and wild magic’, thus a necessity to organize and control. Belos has no understanding of a scale of time it has been hundreds of years and has been planning so often that he’s only had to act in the moment once luz and eda started being harassed by him and reacting. Luz understands magic as pieces of an entire whole and to work with it. Magic is made of elements that work together and work just enough in the moment to succeed the task. She’s a kid with some understanding of both human and witch tragedies is a heavy reader of intense understanding action and drama and the depth of actions consequences etc. Belos is also turning into palistrum wood/magicgoop because he’s been eating them for centuries like how you turn orange from eating tons of carrots. But also think of tolerance and body toxicity with foods, small amounts for only a little while vs palistrum wood being rare now and all the ones alive are in a forest hiding. And the sigils activate and are powered by some of the palistum wood he’s digested that’s why he looks so worn out after spells and reacting
10:32 Well he might not have needed that actually. Remember we already saw, thanks to Ol Tibbles. There are shrinking potions, and humans can make potions if done correctly. Ergo he possibly learned to make the same potion, and since he made it.. His hands to cheek can reverse it. Ergo pours potion on self, shrinks, makes tiny glyph circles, etc.
I agree - I think Philip invented curses when he was messing about with glyphs and accidentally cursed himself. I think the glyphs are to keep it at bay but he needs the more juice the longer it goes. What are the chances of someone who hates witches taking potions to deal with his curse?
I wanted to add a few things to this amazing breakdown of the time travel implications of Belos/Phillip. I love how you pointed out causing a rift between the sisters: it’s a perfect plan! Put the sisters against each other, then guilt trap the target sister and dangle a relief “I’ll cure her” and torment them for decades because she... punched him in the nose once... which didn’t stop him as he got what he wanted... he’s a jerk, lol. Torments someone for decades before they even punch you. Anyways 1. Phillip holds an incredible similarity to Edas father. It could be that Eda is the great great... granddaughter of the brother. This would make Eda and her sister mixed blood, like I bet Hunter and Hunters parent was. 2. It could be that Phillip physically changed his appearance to have pointed ears and that of his children (both him and Hunter have a notch of ear missing from their left ear). Kinda like a grafting of flesh. Then say “oh, we don’t have natural magic because of WILD witches. Here, use this techno-mage staff but not glyphs.” But that would get in the way of my first theory with Clawthorns being mixed blood 3. Alternatively, Phillip/Beros could have kidnapped a branching lineage of his brother, splitting the two families of clawthornes and Hunters, and removing the wild magic from Hunters side
Time travel will absolutely be used in season 3. There was a scene (I think at the tail end of season 1), where all the coven heads put their magic into a McGuffin that revealed a portal to the human realm, but the visuals indicated that time was passing, suggesting the human realm and the demon realm are one and the same, just separated by time, not space. Edit: also I can't believe I NEVER noticed Lilith kicked her own head when she stuck her head through the time pool. I thought it was just a random person.
The body in his lair is either an ortet or an unfinished grimwalker. And Hunter is the ortet for his new grimwalker. In the page opposite the grimwalker recipe, it tells you how to identify one, red eyes, the checkmark is by the teen age figure. An ortet is the original genetic specimen a set of clones are made from. And to take it further ...I think the body belos is in is already a grimwalker, he was dying then, I'm thinking he made a new body but messed up somehow, which is why he's disfigured....you see the similar diagram and the body parts in his lair. He needed a galderstone, stone sleeper lungs and selkidomus scale, palisman wood...and bone of the ortet....I think he's done the grimwalker spell before to prolong his own life. Just a theory.....that would explain why he and hunter look so similar, down to the notch in the ear and the hair color. The only issue with that is the galderstone.... supposedly no one has ever gotten one but we learn the coven scouts are looking for them. But what did he pull from the sand? Looked like a galderstone to me, it reminded me of when gus saw his reflection in it, same as when belos/whittebane saw his reflection in it. That's my theory anyway. Also explains how he had all the palisman wood (aside from him needing them to not die) and the body parts. Also....he says he found hunter and he would be so much trouble to replace.....yeah, he's part of his spell
Nha for me they are still safe for now. You mentioned the star wars theory of storm troopers aim, but didn't mention that, in the later films, everyone, including vader, is obedient to that rule because Luke is seen as the emperor's possession because he wants to corrupt him. For me below is trying to pull a Palpatine on luz
I always think that Belos’ arm glyphs are probably self-inflicted wounds/scars he did to himself so that he could inherit magic inside him despite him not really knowing how Bile sacks work. Also it would be awesome if The Collector was like a Boba Fett neutral character,not evil but also not good,maybe doing it for the money or something else.
Part of me wonders if that 'sludge' is actually made of the same palasmen stuff he has been feeding off of... sort of a temporary stop gap of turning him into a 'living' version to extend his lifespan, but obviously there were side effects/errors involved. Also got to love/hate how he openly admitted he wasn't going to share knowledge and throw their lives away at the next trial he was going to face. He must really hate witches if he told them that outright instead of trying to bargin.
While it is true that Belos could now off them because the time loop is closed, she does not really have too much to go on to know when exactly Luz went back in time. He will leave them alone until the very last moment, to make sure that they had enough time to go back in time.
food for thought: the A on philip’s jacket could also be a sideways D. now, if the theory of him having stolen the jacket from his brother is true, then that could be another link to Eda’s father Del. seeing as hunter is a grimwalker and therefore a clone of belos, and hunter and del having matching scars and palisman tying them to one another, it could be another clue that Del is philip’s brother.
If you notice as he is slurping the palisman his nose injury gets bigger and now he has that line on his face that goes from side to side passing on the nose where the scar should be
i respect time travel being in a loop in loop form, so there is a possibility that Belos starting to knew that Lillith was time traveling or atleast no yet in that timeline during her being a coven head. Although belos might not knew Luz as luzura was a human, he might have noticed it after seeing her in the present timeline. he may have donated his diary which may have been spreaded with lies, But for the fact i'm pretty sure it took a while for belos to recognise Lillith over her 1 grey eye, 1 blue eye and the glasses. Belos maybe be aware for luz to end up recognising him as to who he really is, which is why sent a message to luz for another meeting.
Since titan blood seems to be have been more common in the past, would it not make sense that they could go to the past, get more blood and use some for finding more pools and some for the door.

I think the marking on his arm is something he tried to do to control the Titian but it fail and now he is constantly absorbing magic that his body can’t handle but by eat or absorbing the talismans it is absorbing the magic for him but the magic is still killing him very slowly so he needed the collector to help him live longer can of his human life span
In Hollow Mind, one of the memories of Belos preaching to a crowd from a stage with a wood mask, peculiarly different yellow eyes that never got explained, and a prototype of his tech staff, while Hunter stages an attack from wild witches back stage. In it, he says he’s seen the human light. In Elsewhere and Elsewhen, Luz showed him the previously undiscovered light glyph. Let me say that again. He’s seen the human light. HUMAN LIGHT. LUZ THE HUMAN. Light the human. The human light shines in in 9 hues-which Luz also dresses in at Hexide due to taking all 9 tracks-, which the covens in the coven system were color coordinated after the human light, unintentionally causing him to get the idea for The Coven System. The coloration of The Emperor’s Coven takes on a whole new, well, light. The other covens can only perform one kind of magick and are symbolized by one color. Taking what we know about all the rainbow colors coming from white light, and combine together all the other colors make up white light, of course this symbolism fits perfectly to the preplanned ideal and intent that only The Emperor’s Coven could use all kinds of magick. Furthermore, white is typically used to symbolize good and purity, so Belos may use this psychological symbolism habit to trigger people to automatically subconsciously associate him and The Emperor’s Coven as good and pure, disguising his evil intentions with his cover story of a Titan guided emperor that destroyed the dangerous savage witches practicing wild magick, created the peaceful and orderly paradise of the modern day coven system, and works towards the great and wonderful day of Unity that will grant his worthy subjects a paradise safe from the dangers of wild magick. Or maybe he truly believes that what he’s doing as his ultimate goal is good-for humans at least. And he firmly believes that all witches and demons and wild magick are evil. Y’know typical witch hunter stuff. The Day of Unity will combine the drained magick from all Covens to achieve what looked to be the merging of the human and demon realm. Remember color symbolism and the covens? Luz’s Hexide uniform is a rainbow pretty much since she is taking all coven tracks at once. She’ll be a counter to this in some way, utilizing all tracks of magick. Since she’s not a witch, Luz, and anyone practicing glyph magick, won’t be drained of magick, as was established when the basilisk tried and failed to eat her glyph magick at the school. With the demon and human realms merging, Luz and anyone practicing glyphs will still be able to draw upon the magick from The Titan. That’s really all I have for this sudden theory mess.
You mentioned Philip manipulating Luz and Luz inspiring the Azura series as separate points, but I think they could be the same. We've seen how often Luz uses the Azura books as inspiration for plans so what if Philip wrote those stories to control all of Luz's plans? He could use them to push her towards the boiling Isles, and also manipulate her in a really sneaky way once she gets there.
Luz and co would only be in danger if Belos were to know they actually went back and did what he needed him to. It’s all in his past anyway, so it’s not like he’d just instinctively know when it happened. He totally could have been watching or tracking them, for sure, but I think (I HOPE) they’re probably safe for a while

I find it very interesting that Phillip said it "felt like the Isles were trying to hide" the glyphs from him, since it seems like the Isles kind of volunteered them to Luz (especially the light glyph).
Same! The isles/titan has seemingly chosen Luz as its champion against the false prophet who has harnessed its powers for nefarious reasons. I wonder if we're going to see just how Philip realized these glyphs existed in the first place. Did he steal them from his brother? Was he entrusted by the isles before revealing his true colors?

Their is something else important with this episode. Philip says that the island is trying to hide glyphs from him where as Luz found all of them in only a few months at most. I think this shows that Belos can’t actually communicate with the titan and that it is just propaganda.

Luz who was initially trapped in the demon realm, subsequently making a choice to stay to learn magic, find purpose in life, and throughout her journey experiences the wonders of the boiling island.
If Luz eventually actually communicates with the Titan it would be such a fantastic foil to Phillips character- someone who was likely trapped without choice, cursed at some point by magic and who’s life purpose already was/ became the destruction of magic (at minimum wild magic).
The whole time is circular thing in this universe really makes it feel like the Titan was trying to stall Phillip as long as possible, waiting for Luz.

I starting to think the Day of Unity is Belos' second attempt at this plan; the first one having been foiled by his brother and/or the mystery witch who "lured" them to the Isles stealing the completed portal door. After this episode, I looked back at the drawing we saw in 'Yesterday's Lie', and noticed that Philip was depicted standing back from the witch, with what seemed to be a glyph in one hand and a torch in the other (similar to a torch and pitchfork). His brother on the other hand was shaking hands with them, with what seemed to be Little Rascal/Flapjack on his shoulder. If that is the case, it seems like his brother is being set up as more friendly and open-minded towards witches and magic, which would set the stage for Phillip betraying/killing him.
My current theory on how the brothers came to be stranded in the Demon Realm is this: the mystery witch fell into Eclipse Lake and was transported to the human realm, possibly being injured in the process. Their palisman went to find help and found the currently unnamed Wittebane brother, who brought them back to Gravesfield to treat them. At some point, Phillip likely noticed that they weren't human and let that fact slip to the townsfolk, who chased the witch out. The brothers followed, the unnamed one being worried about the witch and Phillip being worried about his brother. Out of desperation, the witch dove back into the water with the brothers close behind, and all three ended up in Eclipse Lake. If I'm remembering correctly, natural gateways created by Titan's Blood leaking into water are temporary, so it likely closed not too long after, which would be why the Wittebanes couldn't just go for an inter-dimensional swim back to Gravesfield.

Since Belos only knew plant, fire and ice and we saw he used glyphs on himself it would make sense for for it to take a mud form. Water+earth=mud, mud+fire=boiling mud and Belos has a weird bubbly mud thing with his curse. Then glyphs don't work in the human realm, so maybe part of Belos plan is by going to the human realm so it'll cancel the glyph magic he used on himself.

The curse of feathers of course refers to the Clawthorne sisters. While the instances we've seen of Belos' deteriorating body must indicate 'the mud'.

We all assumed the betrayal refered to Eda and Lilith. What if it refered to Philip and his brother? Lilith had no idea how the curse would react. She thought it would be a temporary hex. And was too ashamed to do anything after it was committed.
While we don't know for sure what happened to Philip's brother, he has shown to be a manipulative back-stabber. Exactly the kind to betray his blood.
The poem definitely refers to Eda and Lilith, but I completely agree that it could also refer to Philip and bro or Belos and Hunter.
Another double meaning line is "two hearts of stone." If Hunter is a grimwalker, then his heart is literally a galderstone. Belos, on the other hand, has a metaphorical heart of stone through his cruelty.
This is what I've been thinking. If we had more time, I think we could have seen a parallel between Caleb and Philip and Lilith and Eda, and how Belos did the exact opposite by unaliving his own brother after being given a chance. It's really poetic

In _Eclipse Lake,_ we saw that a grimwalker requires a galdorstone as the heart, palistrom wood as keratin, and selkidomus scales as something (among other things). In the diagram in Philip's lair, the cube, which resembles a galdorstone, points to the heart. two triangles that kind of look like scales point to the skin, and we see an image of a selkidomus on the same wall just off to the right. The final clue is that the book from _Eclipse Lake_ and the diagram in Philip's lair both have the same image of a disembodied pair of eyes around the other images.

About Azura, I'm pretty sure Luz is going to write it in the past to make her love it in the present, thus matching Belos' ploy. After all, they're not all that different.

I've been theorizing about glyph-based technology being used for Belos' staff since his battle against Luz in season 1. It's seeming a lot more likely now!
‘Wild magic’ is just magic, and magic seems to come from two main sources: the bile sac in witches and nature (a.k.a. glyphs). Belos likely created the term to scare witches and get them to join a coven as part of his rise to power. Witches have access to all kinds of magic, but the coven seal cuts off their access to all except the magic their seal represents. He brought back Basilisks so he could study how they absorbed magic from living things, which could include witches.
So knowing all this, my theory is on the Day of Unity, Belos will gather all the coven witches inside the Titan’s head, then paralyze them and absorb all their magic for himself, whether it’s to make the portal powerful enough to bring the Titan to Earth (if that vision proves true), allow him to fully control his Beast form, or to just gain more power. That would leave only Covenless witches and glyphs to fight him, and we know he said there’s a dark fate for any witch who doesn’t join a coven. So the final battle could be Belos harnessing all that magic (which could involve him going full Beast mode) versus the Bad Girl Coven (Luz, the Owl House team, and all covenless witches) using their magic and glyphs. Glyphs only work in the Isles, getting their magic from the Titan, so if the Titan were brought to Earth then glyphs would likely work on Earth so long as they stay on the Titan.
But why would Phillip/Belos need to steal the portal if he was the one who built it? Could this have something to do with Eda and her owl beast? The mural on Edas ceiling does depict some kind of owl deity, and the design of the door matches the design of the Owl House. Also I wonder what would have happened to Phillip if he made his glyph tattoo with all four symbols? It makes me wonder if Luz ever tried the same thing she might become the true voice of the Titan.

I never noticed that when Phillip activates the collector's disk thingy at the end of the episode, the injury on his nose from Lilith grows bigger. I feel like this is clearly indicating that that small scar will eventually grow into the face-wide scar that Belos has in the present day.

I think that the day of unity is really just the day we’re he gets to reunite with his dead brother. It seemed apathetic when ever the subject of going to back to the human realm came up both in the past and present. He even said he needed the collector for something else, but was willing to give them info in exchange for a sacrifice.
Glyph magic doesn’t work in the human realm so he is planning to transport the titans skull into the human realm so there he can use magic. With that he can use whatever spell the collector told him to revive his brother. Since it might be that he needs to revive him in the dimension his soul was born in. The collector could be like a scale of life and death that needs multiple sacrifices just to bring back one person. Which could be why he is gathering everyone on the day of unity he plans on sacrificing all of the people on the isles.
The reason he could have also been so interested in basilisk is because he was planning on draining all the people of their magic to power is portal and revival machine. Finally hunter will be the new vessel for belos brother.
the glyph patters belos were making resembles so much as atoms and the fire glyhps are whats holding the spells together by being the main source of "power" to make sure nothing bad happens to them

I can't help but feel as if there would be some repercussions coming towards Luz. Afterall it wasn't a coincidence that she would end up in the boiling isles in the first place. And even after seeing this latest episode, Luz will soon find out in time that because of her interfering in the past to find out about Phillip Wittebane, she maybe be the cause for the current events that's happening in the future/present such as wild magic,Eda being curse and attacking her father and so on.
On the thought of Belos putting Lilith and Eda against each other; I have noted several times how the 'enlistment' list was blank. Yet for some reason, they had to fight each other.
Plus, Philip is working with *The Collector.* And it's *The Collector* that created the Owl Beast curse.
I'm not really sure it's an 'Owl Beast' curse. Eda's father Dell carved Owlbert because the owl is Eda's spirit totem (in theory). Lilith shares the curse, but she doesn't become an owl beast. She's a... Umm... (I'm not sure *what* she is). But it isn't an owl beast. So then, what *is* the curse? Does it cause your spirit totem to take monstrous physical form?

This wells super helpful! Me and my friends have been making theory’s on what’s happening for a while and we never really thought of it on this deep of a level. This was super cool to watch and it made me think a lot!
Okay so clearly Belos has messed with the history books, and he took 400 years for his plans despite already seeming to be pretty far along back in the 1600s. WHAT IF... he used the time pools to get several hundred years into the future? He could have planted seeds for whatever historical progression of society he needed, to then just skip to the good part. My guess is that he orchestrated the downfall of wild magic, then came back into the timeline by the time the savage ages were truly savage, creating a much easier palette to apply his coven system. It also explains where he disappeared to in the time period between Philip's disappearance and Belos' rise to power
Time travel is funny. I saw the same events and came away with the opposite conclusion. The future will sort is out, but it's fun to speculate.
1) While I'm sure the guy turns into Belos, I'm unsure it's Phillip. The man who would be emperor didn't answer to Phillip. He recognized the name, but didn't confirm.
2) While planting the book may be a long game play. It is exceedingly risky. Especially since, if he can rewrite the district approved version of history he could have just added Phillip to the school's curriculum. Phillip's journal is knowledge he has no control over and handing it to a presumed enemy is like giving Luz a loaded gun. (This is also why S1 should have had Belos bend the rules for Luz to attend Hexside instead of a little Mary Sue obstacle clearance.)
3) My guess this is Alastair Witterbane. He joined his brother Phillip on this journey. Phil fell in love with the Boiling Isles. Al hated it. Phil started a life, but continued working on a way back to Earth for his brother. Al started fearful, but then grew hateful of the Boiling Isles. He wanted to destroy the place, but didn't have the power, so enter Emperor Belos. With some subterfuge and glyphs he climbs his way to power. Creates the coven system to keep the powers in check and build toward the day of Unity.

Its been my theory for a while that the way Belos's techno magic works, is with a complex display of all glyphs that could work together, overlaid, and then only activates the parts needed to form a particular glyph, to cast that spell. This must however necessitate that there is some other magic at play (possibly more glyphs) casting a magic capable of reading his intentions and directing the glyph circuitry in his staff, otherwise for every individual action of it, he'd have to do something to manipulate what glyphs are actually active.

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?

She could honestly just go back in time before the door was broken and sneaky use it and yeah she’d be stuck back in that time but like it was only a few months ago (not really that bad), and it’s not like all she did there has been undone or anything like how time altering stuff usually goes, it just hasn’t happened yet. Or do tricky shenanigans with taking the door back to the future, use it, get her home, then get third parties to take it back to the correct time. But the second option sounds like it’s more susceptible to King mucking it up
I like that belos uses magic like batteries and parts. Belos eats the palismen made of trees, uses creature parts to create hunter, and is pushing a narrative that there’s an idea of ‘magic and wild magic’, thus a necessity to organize and control. Belos has no understanding of a scale of time it has been hundreds of years and has been planning so often that he’s only had to act in the moment once luz and eda started being harassed by him and reacting.
Luz understands magic as pieces of an entire whole and to work with it. Magic is made of elements that work together and work just enough in the moment to succeed the task. She’s a kid with some understanding of both human and witch tragedies is a heavy reader of intense understanding action and drama and the depth of actions consequences etc.
Belos is also turning into palistrum wood/magicgoop because he’s been eating them for centuries like how you turn orange from eating tons of carrots. But also think of tolerance and body toxicity with foods, small amounts for only a little while vs palistrum wood being rare now and all the ones alive are in a forest hiding. And the sigils activate and are powered by some of the palistum wood he’s digested that’s why he looks so worn out after spells and reacting

I agree - I think Philip invented curses when he was messing about with glyphs and accidentally cursed himself. I think the glyphs are to keep it at bay but he needs the more juice the longer it goes. What are the chances of someone who hates witches taking potions to deal with his curse?
I wanted to add a few things to this amazing breakdown of the time travel implications of Belos/Phillip. I love how you pointed out causing a rift between the sisters: it’s a perfect plan! Put the sisters against each other, then guilt trap the target sister and dangle a relief “I’ll cure her” and torment them for decades because she... punched him in the nose once... which didn’t stop him as he got what he wanted... he’s a jerk, lol. Torments someone for decades before they even punch you.

1. Phillip holds an incredible similarity to Edas father. It could be that Eda is the great great... granddaughter of the brother. This would make Eda and her sister mixed blood, like I bet Hunter and Hunters parent was.
2. It could be that Phillip physically changed his appearance to have pointed ears and that of his children (both him and Hunter have a notch of ear missing from their left ear). Kinda like a grafting of flesh. Then say “oh, we don’t have natural magic because of WILD witches. Time travel will absolutely be used in season 3. There was a scene (I think at the tail end of season 1), where all the coven heads put their magic into a McGuffin that revealed a portal to the human realm, but the visuals indicated that time was passing, suggesting the human realm and the demon realm are one and the same, just separated by time, not space.
Edit: also I can't believe I NEVER noticed Lilith kicked her own head when she stuck her head through the time pool. I thought it was just a random person.

The body in his lair is either an ortet or an unfinished grimwalker. And Hunter is the ortet for his new grimwalker. In the page opposite the grimwalker recipe, it tells you how to identify one, red eyes, the checkmark is by the teen age figure. An ortet is the original genetic specimen a set of clones are made from. And to take it further ...I think the body belos is in is already a grimwalker, he was dying then, I'm thinking he made a new body but messed up somehow, which is why he's disfigured....you see the similar diagram and the body parts in his lair. He needed a galderstone, stone sleeper lungs and selkidomus scale, palisman wood...and bone of the ortet....I think he's done the grimwalker spell before to prolong his own life. Just a theory.....that would explain why he and hunter look so similar, down to the notch in the ear and the hair color. The only issue with that is the galderstone.... supposedly no one has ever gotten one but we learn the coven scouts are looking for them. But what did he pull from the sand? I always think that Belos’ arm glyphs are probably self-inflicted wounds/scars he did to himself so that he could inherit magic inside him despite him not really knowing how Bile sacks work.

Part of me wonders if that 'sludge' is actually made of the same palasmen stuff he has been feeding off of... sort of a temporary stop gap of turning him into a 'living' version to extend his lifespan, but obviously there were side effects/errors involved.

While it is true that Belos could now off them because the time loop is closed, she does not really have too much to go on to know when exactly Luz went back in time. He will leave them alone until the very last moment, to make sure that they had enough time to go back in time.
food for thought: the A on philip’s jacket could also be a sideways D. now, if the theory of him having stolen the jacket from his brother is true, then that could be another link to Eda’s father Del. seeing as hunter is a grimwalker and therefore a clone of belos, and hunter and del having matching scars and palisman tying them to one another, it could be another clue that Del is philip’s brother.

i respect time travel being in a loop in loop form, so there is a possibility that Belos starting to knew that Lillith was time traveling or atleast no yet in that timeline during her being a coven head. Although belos might not knew Luz as luzura was a human, he might have noticed it after seeing her in the present timeline. he may have donated his diary which may have been spreaded with lies, But for the fact i'm pretty sure it took a while for belos to recognise Lillith over her 1 grey eye, 1 blue eye and the glasses. Belos maybe be aware for luz to end up recognising him as to who he really is, which is why sent a message to luz for another meeting.
Since titan blood seems to be have been more common in the past, would it not make sense that they could go to the past, get more blood and use some for finding more pools and some for the door.

I think the marking on his arm is something he tried to do to control the Titian but it fail and now he is constantly absorbing magic that his body can’t handle but by eat or absorbing the talismans it is absorbing the magic for him but the magic is still killing him very slowly so he needed the collector to help him live longer can of his human life span

In it, he says he’s seen the human light. In Elsewhere and Elsewhen, Luz showed him the previously undiscovered light glyph. Let me say that again. He’s seen the human light. HUMAN LIGHT. LUZ THE HUMAN. Light the human. The human light shines in in 9 hues-which Luz also dresses in at Hexide due to taking all 9 tracks-, which the covens in the coven system were color coordinated after the human light, unintentionally causing him to get the idea for The Coven System. The coloration of The Emperor’s Coven takes on a whole new, well, light. The other covens can only perform one kind of magick and are symbolized by one color. Taking what we know about all the rainbow colors coming from white light, and combine together all the other colors make up white light, of course this symbolism fits perfectly to the preplanned ideal and intent that only The Emperor’s Coven could use all kinds of magick. Furthermore, white is typically used to symbolize good and purity, so Belos may use this psychological symbolism habit to trigger people to automatically subconsciously associate him and The Emperor’s Coven as good and pure, disguising his evil intentions with his cover story of a Titan guided emperor that destroyed the dangerous savage witches practicing wild magick, created the peaceful and orderly paradise of the modern day coven system, and works towards the great and wonderful day of Unity that will grant his worthy subjects a paradise safe from the dangers of wild magick. Or maybe he truly believes that what he’s doing as his ultimate goal is good-for humans at least. And he firmly believes that all witches and demons and wild magick are evil. Y’know typical witch hunter stuff. The Day of Unity will combine the drained magick from all Covens to achieve what looked to be the merging of the human and demon realm. Remember color symbolism and the covens? Luz’s Hexide uniform is a rainbow pretty much since she is taking all coven tracks at once. She’ll be a counter to this in some way, utilizing all tracks of magick. Since she’s not a witch, Luz, and anyone practicing glyph magick, won’t be drained of magick, as was established when the basilisk tried and failed to eat her glyph magick at the school. With the demon and human realms merging, Luz and anyone practicing glyphs will still be able to draw upon the magick from The Titan. That’s really all I have for this sudden theory mess.
What if the body pieces are the bones of his brother that he can use to make a Grimwalker
You mentioned Philip manipulating Luz and Luz inspiring the Azura series as separate points, but I think they could be the same. We've seen how often Luz uses the Azura books as inspiration for plans so what if Philip wrote those stories to control all of Luz's plans? He could use them to push her towards the boiling Isles, and also manipulate her in a really sneaky way once she gets there.
Luz and co would only be in danger if Belos were to know they actually went back and did what he needed him to. It’s all in his past anyway, so it’s not like he’d just instinctively know when it happened. He totally could have been watching or tracking them, for sure, but I think (I HOPE) they’re probably safe for a while
