    EDIT: For those confused let me make this clear, Hydroid wasn't top tier on release just decent. I stated that near the end of that section.
    EDIT 2: Another correction, when I mention Viral being niche I don't mean its use with slash I just meant on its own without Hunter Munitions, my fault there I forgot to add on screen text to clarify.
    I mean you can argue that Viral was only good with slash so... I guess its niche in that sense? but yeah my fault there, apologies!
    I sacrifice my mental stability and an umbra forma for this video, I hope it was worth it.

      i did manage to make a steel path hydroid build....its still a weapon platform utilizing all his abilities to just crowd control, while using creeping terrify to armor strip and focus on killing eximus.... not perfect but it makes him playable and kinda fun...adjacent

    I remember when hydroid was the GOAT for farming in endless survival camping a room with his augmentation mod, man those memories with friends were great. We would spend ages farming polymer bundles because those were one of the few things we were actually low on all the time.
    It really feels sad how far he's fallen from grace because he was quickly becoming one of my favorite frames. It feels odd to because i don't remember a point where I really lost interest in him, it was more just a gradual decline over time as more and better things came out till i eventually just stopped using him as a whole.

    Hydroid has a really interesting pirate/Davy Jones/sea god theme that makes him one of the cooler frames ideas wise, yet his abysmal execution makes all these cool themes fall flat on their face.

      He was literally the Warframe that got me hooked on the game, because his abilities were so fun, until I realized that most other Warframes don't need nearly as much time to kill stuff lol

    Hydroid was unironically the very reason as to why im playing Warframe all those years back, his design and concept was captivating for me.
    The very first thing i did was strive for him, learnt about the elusive argon crystals and met some really cool people that helped me with Vay Hek :) all those fond memories, he is even my most used frame for the longest time, i just loved him too much, but something happened to him, it wasnt a drastic change it was more of a slow decline.
    Hydroid truly is the relic of the past, its interesting to see just how untouched this frame is compared to the others, serving as a character that reminds me of just how different warframe was back then.
    I really wish he gets the rework that he deserves, conceptually Hydroid is one of the coolest frames to ever exist for me

      Same that's why I'm so happy I got his prime for free just by watching tennocon. The gifting bugged out and I got a second one lol. But my hydroid ended up in the inventory never to be used again in the foreseeable future :/

    My problems with Hydroid:
    1. We don’t talk about the passive
    2. He has two charge abilities…why
    3. His playstyle just doesn’t feel right for a watery pirate theme, it’s very passive (considering a lot of his kit is designed to work with Undertow)
    Possible solutions for a rework:
    1. The passive could be something like Scurvy, where getting a status effect makes you invulnerable for a second or two? It’s a rough idea but it’s better than the chance to spawn a tentacle
    2. Get rid of the charge on his 1. And at least make it cool and have it be actual cannon balls instead of water bullets, it’s mainly used for CC so damage doesn’t matter a ton
    3. The dash can turn into a whirlpool or something like it to group enemies…basic I know, but it could be used in conjunction with his 1 to keep enemies in the CC field
    4. Make Undertow into something like a Bermuda Triangle which could be an area buff/debuff field, enemies move slower or take more damage and Hydroid gets some sort of buff so he can take a hit
    5. Make the Kraken a high priority summonable ally. Please let us summon the Kraken. He would have high range AoE attacks and as long as it hits an enemy once, Pilfering Swarm would still work for loot
    Just an idea workshop, makes him a bit more pirate-y and more active while still maintaining an area defense playstyle

      I'm more in favor of making the scaling damage his passive that procs after each time a unit takes a tick of damage from any of his innate abilities. The would be indicative of any one of his abilities being a hassle and/or danger to your typical sea voyage but all of them together being something that would easily overwhelm anything.

      @@Rocketsredbear Upon some passive reflection I think it would work better if you could attach it to at least the center mass if not a floor sprouted tentacle of the ult if one is within the effect radius upon attempting to cancel and you have enough energy to otherwise pay for the remaining duration.

    My biggest gripe with Hydroid is not only are his abilities not good (with the exception of his 4 with farming augment) but then D.E. added a charge mechanic to two of hydroids abilities. Farming niche is now outclassed with the arrival of Khora and her augment so there is no reason to even use him. Its ashame because I love his concept/design

    I’ve been saying for years that he should get a rework that adapts his theme, so now he works with hot and cold water, obviously with heat and ice procs. To further adapt his pirate theme, make the rework encourage gun play. I also thought they could do something very unique with him in making Tidal Surge not even be an ability, but make it happen when he slides (Or if we don’t want to remove normal slides from him, change it to be if you slide during the roll animation) and give him a new second that acts as both a survivability and weapon-boosting power.

      If they're gonna keep tentacle 4, I'd love for it to give your weapons corrosive dmg. Similar to toxic lash, but also make the 4 an even better cc ability. Have it synergistic with his other abilities. Like using tidal wave near the monster moves it and extends its duration.

      Passive: Blunderbuss. Hydroid collects all forms of dropped ammunition. Press 1 to fire the shrapnel in a wide spread all at once. The more ammunition collected, the more shrapnel is fired, and the more damage it causes.

      not just gunplay but why not bonus' towards gun and blade play, you don't see it often but remember we CAN combo one handed weapons with a pistol, slap on a passive similar to the Nami Solo when held by hydroid and you have another niche to him

    It's funny how they progressively reworked each of Mag's abilities one by one over time until she became usable in all content. Then there's Hydriod getting indirectly nerfed until there's nothing left.

      @@BigHailFanI can’t imagine why, mags a beast with her new update. Her 3rd if used while her second is active takes shards of enemy armor and deals tons of slash damage with it as long as the bubbles active. She can now walk with her second and catch bullets and throw them back at people and the same shards she strips she runs around with them until you use her 3rd then the same slash damage happens. It’s pretty cool tbh. (In case it was confusing her 3rd is what causes the shards)

    I thought Oberon being slowly pushed out by Wisp and Citrine was rough…then this video reminded me Hydroid mains have it much much worse.

      He's still alright because of the armor strip changes and because you can give everyone a nice radiation damage buff too with that augment.
      ...but that might just be me huffing the goatman copium. His 3 is laughably bad healing compared to Wisptrine™ unless you use the cheat death augment, and his 2 is also only passable with specific builds. Thanks to archon shards one *can* fit two augments into a good build these days, but yet again we shouldn't fucking have to.

      @@Fiendir as a stubborn Oberon main, its augments like his that make me feel they've gone pass their original use and become truly more the "band-aids" they were probably seen as by the team at their conception (a similar belief i hold with helmith, just a pricey bandaid for your favorite but non meta frames). seriously why isn't Pheonix Renewal or Smite Infusion just a baseline thing he's an Oath of Ancients Paladin, what he can't Bless and Spare The Dying his own team!? he does this for everyones pets though!

      Yareli, grendel, khora and Caliban all share gimmicks or theming in some way with hydroid, and all of them have been given reworks or buffs to be better than him at whatever their equivalent is without being significantly worse than him at any other respect.
      That said hydroid is my favorite frame for aesthetic design and concept. Pirates are cool. Pirate who loots makes sense. Unleash the kraken good.
      Concept: remove 2, drop three to two and four to three. New four: exalted sword and shotgun.
      Make it like pistol and glaive but it's a cutlass and a bullet Catchmoon or something. Or the Zarr. Something!
      Or fuse undertow with kraken and have him ride around a murder squid as a mount
      It's sad how many frames contemporary to or older than him got amazing reworks. Ember is still great. Wukong became META! WUKONG! Nezha rework great, saryn phenomenal, mag good still, even the volt rework is good ish
      But Hydroid remains with Atlas in the "Only played for being cool, never for being effective" box :(

    Hydroid is my most used Warframe at 48.6%. Wisp is my second most used at around 9.4%...
    I have around 2000hrs in game... I want you to think about how long I've waited for hydroid to have a rework. Thank you for the video, and i hope it brings attention to DE to do something about our waterboi. I've seen so many great ideas in a comment section already and it's nice to see people are still enthusiastic about him.
    But, i think it's time i take a break. Seeing this video put in perspective how long I've been waiting for my light at the end of the tunnel...Godspeed all.

    As a disciple of the Fairy King, I do feel bad for those who would be looking forward to pirate theme that otherwise seems competent. I would argue that the scaling damage should be shifted to his passive whenever he deals damage with one of his base abilities. Then rework the healing mod after rolling the healing functionality into the puddle.

    I like the idea of hydroid having a passive that lets him use a one handed pistol and one handed melee weapon together at the same time. Tempest Barrage being changed to Cannon Barrage and dropping large water bombs on the field, his puddle being changing to a placeable ability that can be cast in multiple locations, potentially being able to inflict status by shooting it with different elements, Tidal Surge being replaced by a whirlpool that drags enemies towards the center dealing tick damage, and his ult becoming a kraken bursting out of the ground dealing aoe damage for a short duration. I like the idea of leaning into a Davy Jones theme where hes a mythical pirate that can control the waves and the creatures beneath them

      Having a hard time figuring out why that passive idea is remotely useful considering you can switch between melee and then immediately back to your gun by simply pressing the dedicated melee button.

    I think it’ll be interesting if they made enemies killed in his puddle scale up the damage of the tentacle swarm along with the added effect of making them who are killed by his 4th abilities ghosts for a short time

    Whelp, the video is here and as I said in the poll, I'd probably post my rework idea for so here it is. It ain't perfect but I'm fairly certain anything is better at this point. (I wrote this a while ago so it could do with some edits but I'm just gonna stick with this.)
    Passive
    Hydroid's body dampens as he comes into contact with his abilities, building up a meter that grants power strength with 50% at the cap. Decays over time when not in contact with abilities.
    Tempest Barrage
    Ability is the same as before but scales and follows Hydroid wherever he goes. Range mods affect how far they surround him and the explosion radius of the shots. Augment will allow recast that sends a barrage of shots forward like an artillery strike.
    Undertow
    Set down up to 5 pools that slow enemies by a certain percentage. (80% cap) Range mods affect how large the pools are. Hydroid can crouch while standing on the pool to dive into it. Augment remains the same.
    Tidal Surge
    Ability becomes an AoE pull-in best used in pools. If crouched within a pool and targeting another pool Hydroid will use the original version of the ability to rush to the targeted pool. Augment will apply corrosive to enemies pulled into a pool or magnetic if there are no pools available.
    Tentacle Swarm
    Ability is similar to the previous version but cannot be used without an active pool. Each pool gets its own swarm of eight tentacles that grab and crush enemies over time, doing 5% of their health every second. Augment remains the same.

    About Hydroid's execution od concepts, I think it's funny how old Grendel did basically the same thing as Hydroid's 1 2 and 3, but far better (and even then, Grendel saw a glorious rework).
    Like, Grendel focused around on eating enemies, keeping them in his belly and killing them by digestion (where they lose their armor and take ridiculous amounts pf dmg when u jump around while on his 4).
    As some bonuses u could also vomit them like a shotgun, whicuh would kill them instantly, or vomit one by one, like a corpse cannon lmao, which wasn't great, but was something.
    (Funnily Khora kinda uses Hydroid's 4 concept to create all her playstyle, but far better to, as her 1 will deal dmg through her grouping ability)
    At least now Grendel was reworked there may be more room for DE dive deeper on the concept of the drowner/kidnapper frame for Hydroid (even though I don't think so, given how Pablo talked about Grendel would steal the fun from others because he was banishing enemies from existence)

    i really love his playstyle and i think his power fantasy of being a deep sea creature that kills rooms of enemies with tentacles and shit, is awesome

    First of all, thank you for this complete and well worked video. This summary of Hydroid’s changes and how and why he was playing is an admirable work.
    Then as a regular Hydroid player, this video will remind me of the descent into hell that Hydroid suffered but also the memories of players starting with my Hydroid. Even if I still play it:p
    I discover your channel with this video and I sincerely think that for me, it is the best door to discover your work.
    Thanks for the nostalgia.
    I heard that potentially a rework of hydroid is planned, hate to see (hoping that he keeps his soul).

    Here is a possible rework idea:
    1. Passive - Plunder & Pillage: Hydroid's abilities marks enemies with his Plunder & Pillage. Enemies marked drop additional loot and take increased damage from all sources.
    2. Tempest Barrage - Target and call down waves of liquid cannon balls. Charge this attack to increase the damage and duration of the canon fire. (Pretty much stays the same, however it should be able to self proc his passive every now and again).
    3. Tidal Surge - Dash through enemies, staggering them and opening them to finishers. (Just to add a bit more functionality, though I feel like buffing your weapon damage per enemy hit could be an alternative)
    4. Undertow - Summon a pool of water that traps and damages enemies. Recast to enter the pool and increase undertow's damage.
    5. Tentacle Swarm - Summons a tentacles that grab and damage nearby enemies. Enemies below 20% health are instantly killed.
    So the idea here was to play a bit more into his theme, while also not changing his abilities to much (With the exception of his passive). Pilfering swarm can go one of two ways: Stay as is, but it stacks with the new passive or it can change to allow enemies to drop Orbs while held in Tentacle Swarm and give a small boost to loot dropped. The rest of the augments should still be fine, though I feel like they might benefit from a few number tweaks.

      This is very late reply, but I think it would also be good fluidity wise in the gameplay to have tidal surge be a damage buff as stated, but also could be cast as a projectile without him moving and change it to a tap/hold. Also with Undertow instead of recasting, it could just be a tap hold as well to feel more fluid, and allow you to instantly go into the pool without having to wait for an animation delay of the cast and instead quickly move into undertow quickly as it's still an occasionally useful survivability tool to avoid telegraphed attacks like eximus blasts/waves.

    I've been running a Hydroid build that uses Protea's Dispensary and Arcane Blessing + Health Conversion to make him unreasonably tanky. Still not a super fun frame, but I've finally found a build that makes him feel like not tissue paper and wanted to share

    As a relatively new player, I was using Hydroid as a sort of proto-Khora since it was taking _forever_ for all her blueprints to drop. Even now, my dominant strategy has pretty much been spamming heavy slam over and over for AoE damage and CC, and Hydroid's passive is perfect for my playstyle.
    Sure, he's not the best frame I have, and I'll probably tie him to the Helminth if I ever get my hands on his Prime, but when it comes to having a good time, I'll take a low-tier buccaneer with two Krakens and a Kuva Zarr at his side any day of the week.

    They should take his 2 and combine it with his 3 like they did with vabaun, I think that would make it work so much better. Also, have his puddle do true damage instead of impact. I would love to see his puddle get a self heal. Lastly and I wish I had a solution they do need to give him a new ability instead of his....wave..... my opinion tho

    I would LOVE a video on Nyx! I still remember playing old Xini back in beta. Infested defence on Corpus tileset was so fun! Nyx Chaos, Saryn Miasma, Frost Bubble was our go-to setup for it. Good times, I miss Nyx, going to look and see if any Chaos builds are still viable / meta :)

    Hydroid was also fantastic for interception missions. If you got his puddle large enough, it could cover both panels on a control point and since on release his puddle didn't cost more per enemy inside, he was a great way to make sure that one point was always controlled. Yes, it did absolute garbage damage to those inside and made them immune to your nuke 'frames, but it made positioning those nuke 'frames much easier if they didn't have to worry about one point until the very end. Many a long interception mission I had where someone in the squad was running hydroid to make it just easier for the rest of us.
    Then they introduced nullifiers (I will always be bitter about these). Then they nerfed the puddle to increase cost with things inside. Then they nerfed the range on the puddle. It no longer could comfortably lock down a position because of all of the ways you could be forced out of it, and it couldn't cover both locations. Absolutely killed that playstyle. We also stopped doing endless missions endlessy since the relic rework, so controlling a point for an ungodly amount of scaling fell by the wayside since we're not trying to maximize keys.
    Unlike a lot of people, I do like his kit a lot, and think it does match his nautical theme. I also am one of those greybeards that miss running missions for 2 hours, and _like_ what people call 'passive' or 'boring' playstyles. Nyx before her gutting, Frost, Hydroid, Vaubaun are all some of my favorite playstyles.

    Great take and walkthrough on the history of Hydroid. I'm surprised on the suggestions though. The main advantage to keeping tidal surge is that it serves as a 2nd rolling guard and can be used during it's cool down. Puddle on the other hand has a huge drawback of leaving Hydroid vulnerable when unsubmerging; the only way to stay invincible is to use rolling guard when exiting. Funny enough, this defeats the purpose of using Puddle in the first place since you're trying to use it to escape damage. I find tidal surge WAY more useful than puddle for higher level enemies and eximus units. Tidal surge does have the nasty issue of grouping enemies only at the end of the cast though.

    The funny thing is that even when he was released, Hydroid didn’t have a clear niche that other frames couldn’t fill. Or really, he didn’t have a niche at all. He’s very much a product of early WF design where frames were designed with form over function, except that the form was also largely unimpressive. When the devs showed him off on stream, they giggled at him turning into a puddle and that was pretty much it. He was created for a few visual gags and… yeah, that’s it.
    The other funny thing is that Splatoon came out in the same year. My first thought upon seeing Hydroid was, “damn, this guy should be able to move around in his puddle and splash over surfaces like the Splatoon squids!” And I still stand by that opinion, 7 years later. At the very least, his movement would be fun.

    Had an idea for a rework while keeping the general theme:
    1) Tempest barrage problems
    -hold cast for range boost is stupid
    -ragdoll is horrible cc
    -come in from the sky??
    -Water missiles?????
    Now: cycles between 3 barrages
    Area of effect is the same
    +Splinter shot fires low damage caltrops in an area that apply slash
    +Grape shot fires many medium damage impact missiles over time like before
    +Round shot that fires one high damage aoe cannonball that has additive damage per status effect
    Augment
    +Grape shots now shred percentage defenses
    2)Tidal surge weirdness
    -i love this move tbh
    Now:
    +Contact with enemies applies chakram damage vulnerability to all sources
    Augment changed to
    +50 armor for 25s when dashing through enemies (stacks to 1500)
    3) PUDDLE IS GONE
    -puddle sux
    -dumb boring move
    Now: Tempest rain thingy
    Plant a flag that brings the rain in a wide range (like 20 seconds ish)
    (flag will have your icon on)
    +gives status immunity to you and allies
    +Doubles range of other abilities
    +Enemies inside rain have -50% accuracy
    Augment same as that puddle one but for rain
    4) Tentacle nightmare kraken thing
    -ragdoll is dumb

    -kraken leaves :(
    -max of 20 enemies?? Assuming this some performance issue stuff like grendel
    Now: Tentacles spawn at enemies locations, who immediately get dragged down, and appear under the kraken in the center.
    Kraken has undertow active and will be drowning enemies underneath him.
    (Enemies Will appear here when ability runs out)
    +Every kraken kill puts +2s on rain duration, and a small damage boost to kraken undertow damage
    +Every kill summons a new tentacle, 20 tentacles active max
    + Tentacles in the area will harass enemies it cannot pull (eg overguard), drawing fire and inflicting staggers.
    +Tentacles can be killed but will explode and apply toxin status
    +Resummoning kraken will bring back all 20 tentacles
    Pilfering swarm remains augment.
    Interactions:
    +Can use all different barrages on enemies in kraken undertow to damage enemies
    +Rain doubles all ability range
    +If rain and kraken are active Tidal surge will sweep all enemies towards kraken and into undertow.
    General idea is you cast rain + kraken in an area to hoover them into the center, then use your 1 to shoot down at them and get kills.
    Alot there, might not necessarily be able to build for all of it. Just ideas.

      Same I started wf around heart of diemos update, and hydroid was the 1st prime I got at like mr3 or 4. It was cause they gave everyone a free hydroid prime when his trailer was released. I played him for a big while an cleared majority of the story and normal nodes with him, as well as farming.
      But then I realized how bad he was when I got more primes and indulged deeper into wf other than doing story and having fun

    Hydroid works well for khora resource farm despite the math saying it doesn't work, try short ranged hydroxide with looting augment in a khora farming cage.

    Fun fact for pre eximus over guard update: 4 man hydroid afk interception was meta for sorties back when sorties were "challenging". Basically high efficiency + range and stay on undertow all the way and pray that leech eximus doesn't spawn. It was the best afk intercept strategy if you just want to farm intercept rewards. IIRC, spoiler mode wasn't introduced yet and syndicates farming was abysmal, so there was nth much to gain for killing enemies in interception. It was a niche inside a niche.
    And the eximus overguard got introduced, which completely destroys the strategy. Getting heavy 24:00 vibes here too lol.

    They just need to make water/wet its own status effect to fix Hydroid and Yareli in one go.
    Something like" enemies affected by water status have a chance to drop weapons and fall down" for CC and then new status effects to pair with the existing ones like AND somethin' new; I'm thinking of a nice priming effect like "wet enemies take extra damage from elec status" or somethin'. I think a status effect that doesn't do damage outright, opting for some CC instead, but allows the other status effects to do interesting things would be really cool.

    I thought of some changes will watching so I didn't put too much thought into it.
    Ability changes
    1. just add natural armor strip. it seems to be the go to right now.
    2. Make it attract enemies rather than launch.
    3. Have the choice to leave a puddle on the ground or become the puddle.
    4. Instead of smacking the enemies. The tentacles would grab the enemies and pull them into small puddles, so they could drown.
    Just simple ideas to try. I know DE isn't going to put much time into him, so I thought these would be quick and easy to give him.

    Hi, I'm here to compliment you. I haven't played warframe continously in a while nor I watch warframe content anymore. I might check some times but Warframe is not a part of my life as far as I can tell. So having said that and given that I didn't know about your channel I will say this. I LOVE your thumbnail work, simple to the point and gives focus that eases me into watching the history of the indivual warframes. The video itself remminded me of the good, and not so good, times I had with these frames. It's just great. Keep doing you and hope everything goes well.

    I honestly think making hydroids kraken have a damage boost to the tentacles when shooting the kraken's head with a damage counter like saryns spores and it refreshes the damage everytime you recast it

    Here's my two cents, since I still use Hydroid when I just wanna farm and chill on non SP nodes, and a chance to make his kit viable for SP.
    1.) Tempest Barrage
    Absolutely must keep with a major buff. Since armor stripping has become mandatory for higher levels. Also give it a thematic change. With all the subtle changes in lore, it's not far off that Hydroid is just a Void powered Eldritch level incarnation of Davy Jones. DE's design team can rework the attack into Void summoned cannons (and dare I say Turrets- yes Pablo make them Orokin themed carronade TURRETS) like how Gilgamesh from FGO summons them.
    And with the press/hold key mechanics, it can be activated in two ways: press summons the barrage normally, while hold creates a stationary (depending on duration and power strength) firing line behind Hydroid. And not to make it too op, the held key version will require line of sight.
    And a proposed change to the augment, it should be be able to also destroy Eximus overshields but at either a higher cost or reduced range.
    2.) Tidal Surge
    This can be reworked by making it give you buffs when you enter and exit the ability. Keep the invincibility of course as you enter it, but one idea my friend suggested as you exit the surge, you should gain essentially a temporary short duration watery version of Mesmer/Iron Skin. The amount gained is not just dictated by power strength, but also by how many enemies were killed/dragged along by the surge for a set duration, or sustain enough damage for this water skin to be dispersed. A good visual representation of this is Hydroid is covered by Void "barnacles" and a miniature version of his kraken wrapped around him that emit a liquid sheen all over Hydroid's body.
    Proposed augment, the surge can absorb enemy armor and shields, and given a permanent flat amount of this water skin, and provides knockdown protection that'll eventually disperse after taking enough damage.
    3.) Undertow
    So if you're still reading up to here, great. Just shows that we all care about our forgotten hentai meme.
    Anyways, the reason why I introduced that water skin concept is because I want it to synergize with Undertow, and bring more meaningful squad benefits. Since DE seems to keep forgetting that higher level content essentially turns into horde mode, these are my proposed concepts.
    When you cast Undertow and follow up with Tidal Surge, the normally placid puddle becomes a whirlpool, and instead of just manually using a tentacle to drag in targets, any enemy that gets close to its proximity automatically get sucked in. Also casting Surge in Undertow will make Hydroid do a quick spin inside it's area instead of shooting forward or away from it.
    It should also proc Corrosive and Impact status. So if you do the Surge and Undertow combo and follow up with the Tentacle Swarm, it also adds that Corrosive and Impact procs alongside the Magnetic damage the Kraken does. Essentially turning this combo into it's own status primer. This combo also extends the duration and damage.
    Proposed augment for Undertow: doing that combo, any killed enemies will add accumulating charges of the water skin. Allies that enter the proximity of the whirlpool can interact with the pool. Clicking on it makes an allied Frame jump into it and come out with a set amount of that water skin, and depending on power strength, will also heal and recharge shields by a certain percentage. But to prevent abuse of this skill, repeated use drains the charges from the pool, until new victims are killed by the whirlpool or the Kraken's tentacles to recharge it.
    And finally, his 4.
    4.) Tentacle Swarm
    This suggested rework idea may sound OP, but let's be honest here folks, it's high time this Ultimate should be drastically reworked to be far more than just for looting. So to continue with the theme of synergy, since DE doesn't dig passive gameplay (but yet certain Frames can partially do that *glares at Octavia*) when the triple combo of surge, undertow and Kraken are activated, Hydroid pops up and has a Void tentacle attached to him emanating from the Kraken. This is Hydroid's iteration of Nidus Parasitic Bond. It's essentially a "contract" with the Kraken which provides damage reduction, where any damage is redirected to the Kraken, but in turn shortens it's duration if Hydroid absorbs too much damage and banishes the Kraken back till its resummoned by itself or with the combo. To maintain the combo's destructiveness, Hydroid must stay near it's proximity and continue slaughtering mobs to "feed" it. Thus creating a loop of Hydroid sustaining his source of looting and damage mitigation.
    Proposed augment: do the combo, but instead of Hydroid attached to the Kraken, 7 targets are randomly selected, and since I enjoy body horror, the targets are constricted and become a source of more tentacles, with visuals of tentacles sprouting out their mouths. These "sacrifices" become aggro magnets and eventually explode into gore once all the target's health is depleted. Thus extending the range and Tentacle spawns (so no more janky ground slams to spawn extra tentacles). Again, the catch is to encourage the player to consistently kill near the Undertow area of effect to maintain it's duration.
    Whew. That was a lot to type, but as you can see, I love this Frame so much that I wrote a thesis XD

    In the same vein with other players wanting a refresh on his kit, I was wondering if DE didn't lean heavy enough on the whole pirate theme to really get players engaged (on top of pure negligence to him in general).
    Rather than have separate charge abilities, I think it would be more in line with Vauban, Gyre, and Ivara to have a rotation of ship-related abilities bound to a single ability key; maybe have his cannons, tentacles, and a third ability (how about a chain shot that ragdolls enemies together for crowd control?) bound and rotated in this manner. Bind this to his 2.
    That gives him significantly more room to combine Tidal Surge and Undertow into a tap/hold ability. Tap triggers a surge, and hold triggers undertow. Both would give him i-frames with corresponding amounts of energy drain, and higher damage scaling to match current content (perhaps this ability should require a stat-stick?). Bind this to his 1.
    So what would the two extra ability slots give him?
    How about a pirate's arsenal? Either by scaling off of his mods, exalted, or a stat-stick, Hydroid has a powerful lineup of front-loading pistols at his beck and call. Perhaps they can transform to ability strength and range (for damage and CC accordingly) by being converted into a blunderbuss after a certain % threshold for ability strength. It won't be like Mesa's auto-aim, but turning Hydroid into a close-quarters monster would be pretty neat. Bind this to his 3.
    And what's the apex of a pirate's aim? Rule the seven seas and collect a lot of booty. Have his final ability scale off a meter that increases every time other abilities are utilized (like Gauss), giving him an AoE buff (def, healing, dps increase maybe?). Or have him summon / turn into the Kraken, and by default bake into it a drop-increase (giving everyone the Pilfering Swarm they want...by forcing players to earn that buff with engaged gameplay). Either way, Hydroid is supposed to be an AoE monster, but that shouldn't limit his options to weak splash damage and piss-poor CC.
    I would like it if they had both Sevagoth and Hydroid featured in a Railjack quest; flavor-wise, they would both be prowling the solar rails and picking off unsuspecting ships, and it would really be cool (even if Hydroid is supposed to be better-suited for aquatic combat) to see them work together.

    It honestly hurts me that Hydroid got treated like this, I've always wanted to main him ever since he came out, and I was so on-board with his Pilfering Swarm and how he could actually get me Condition Overload among other things like materials. I enjoyed his concept a lot as being an actual water ninja (check the name) fit with what I was looking for. I guess I could use Yareli since she's all about water too, but I just prefer Hydroid, being the "captain" of the crew, the pirate ninja, all that junk.
    God, I hope DE gives ya boi some love again, I wanna do Steel Path or other high level missions with the Captain and be viable.

Loved you video man alas that this was also the warframe got me into investment to play more because a friend helped me farm plastids on Uranus defence.     This frame is pretty much the only frame that I get nostalgic over how the game used to be. It's odd, maybe because his kit has never really changed like most others have, but everything about him just says mid to late 2010s, for better or worse.

    Personally as someone who’s started messing around with the frame a while ago, I wish that if hydroid used Undertow, and then used his dash, the puddle would remain there where he originally was, and a trail to the new puddle. This would allow actual movement with undertow, but still require energy cost. It would give him a crazy amount of CC and lockdown potential. After a brief period, the puddle would slowly dry up from where it started, to where it finished.

    Just an idea off the top of my head, tentacles grab the enemies and pull them into the krakens, you can go into your water form while they are in the center and do scaling damage to them while they are trapped.
    While your on them in your water form with the kraken the water freezing cold depths will cause enemies shields to shut down, and the damage will be based off your power strength and the armor value of the enemies crushing them like a tin can in the bottom of the ocean.
    I'd make the water form his first/second ability, and keep the tentacles but reworked. and the other two abilities can be trashed and completely remade

    Imo hydroid would be fixed merging his 2 and 3 so you cast tidal wave by rolling while being the pond, and give the pond more range and some kind of debuff for enemies touching the zone, instead of having to swallow em.
    3rd skill could be a cannon barrage or something that boosted his other abilities in some way.
    Oh, and remove the charging on 1 and 4. What's even the point on that. If they want them to be charged at least change something else than just "more damage much energy"
    Idk, he doesn't need *big* changes. Just *changes*

    I feel like hydroid would be a lot better for railjack with the pirate theme and all. He always reminded me of Davy jones from PoC so I think they should change his passive to be something like "50% increased damage in all railjack missions" or "replaces all railjack energy ability with cooldowns" that would work a lot better in my opinion. For his kit I think his should be something like this-
    1st ability it should be replaced with undertow and instead of becoming a puddle it will be a cast ability with duration where you summon a puddle that scales with reach ability's. What it will do is that when enemies fall in they are stiped of armor and will start to take scaling damage until they die or the ability runs and if it runs out they will just pop right back out with armor still striped damage and duration mods help.
    For his 2nd it should still be tidal surge the rework for this one will be that you summon a somewhat big armor striping wave that can go through walls of not much about this other then the armor strip and stun enemies for a second or 2 because this ability will tie in with his forth and of course reach mods will increase either how big the wave is or how far it goes.
    Now for his 3rd ability which is his biggest change because back to railjack he should be able to summon his "crew" (which could be your railjack crew or random railjack crew members) the way it works is that every ability press it adds 1 member until it reaches to a max of 3 and if you're in a railjack mission the ability also gives your team members buffs if they are near by with 1st being damage buff 2nd being health and 3rd being affinity boost and as long as any of the team was around him when he casted his ability's they will keep all buffs and a few seconds extra until the ability runs out this ability will be a draining ability so high energy is good and yes I know that if you level up your self in railjack you get this too but I think this is another way players could get railjack crew that or it could just be randoms every time.
    And finally we go to the 4th which ties the last 3 ability's all together with it being tentacle swarm it will stay the same but with one good thing which is summon crew members will prioritize any enemies that are on the tentacles pair this with the armor strip from the wave this will make running high level missions a lot more easy if you are soloing, note that any enemies that are on the tentacles will take increased damage from hydroid or the crew members this is also a duration ability this ability also does scaling damage.
    The main setup would be something like this you group up all the enemies use tidal surge to strip all armor and follow it up with tentacle swarm once's all enemies are in summon your crew and set back and relax. A good build for him would be high energy and duration build to keep up the crew and tentacles and he would mostly be used on defense or survival on railjack missions but could also be used on base missions I think this is a lot better of a build in my opinion because not only will you be able to go on higher missions and help but he will be a very good team member for leveling up gear due to his 3rd ability having affinity boost. A rework like this I'm sure that it would make hydroid much more fun to play with will and also get him back out there in the light and could even come out with a railjack update with more missions, more mission types, and even pvp as a option players could do because I think railjack need a better update. That or make all his ability's turn him into a puddle idk.

    He needs 3 changes,
    1 his passive has to go; "Flowing like water(fluid movement) gives him a 25% damage bonus as long as he keeps moving/fighting"
    2 his 1 should be changed to a cone single tap that he shoots out his hand knocking enemies over for CC but with more force so more damage.
    -Augment mod changes it back to a charged function making a mega water ball that does big damage)
    3 instead of Tentacle Swarm it should be Tentacle Arms fighting like (Katara in avatar) making his 4 an exalted. New combos and damage resistance and slam attacks while activated make additional tentacles come out the ground and do the regular function.

    I mean Hydroid was developed when Warframe was a very, very different game. It was basically a hallway shooter and his kit complemented that kind of expected play style back then. I still use him in defense missions when I need to change things up because I'm getting bored with the Frames I usually use. For certain missions he can be a bit of mindless fun; snatching up enemies and drowning them is neat, and having a kraken show up and smash the place up while missiles made of water bombard everyone is fun. He does need a rework to bring him up to how the game plays today. But if you're in the mood to just be a drowning pool with tentacles and acid rain? Some people (probably most gauging by the kids I run into) will think he's boring, but for someone like me (old) who needs a break every once in a while Hydroid can be a good choice. No sweaty hyper play that requires constant monitoring and running around all crazy. Water can be but a gentle pool, until it becomes a force to be reckoned with...

    Something that i didn't even hear anymore as i stopped playing for years. So multiple enemy looting is possible again.
    Does that ALSO mean that Nekros can cut enemies to pieces again and they act as seperate bodies? Since that was changed as well back then. Before the change (nerf) you could have cut up enemies to as many pieces as possibly can and you would get him to loot each piece as it would be a separate body.
    That was changed and nerfed with the loot nerf years ago. Hearing they "reverted" this nerf again, is this also back now?

    what makes me sad is how much potential hydroid has, they can do LITERALY ANYTHING they want, and he would be a better frame for it.
    make him a summoner frame that has access to the kraken. make him a defensive frame who can transform into water to lower the damage he takes. make him able to create a storm that deal puncture damage and the status effect of the secondary by simply casting or impact damage + the status effect of the primary by holding it.
    they could even give him a coating ability that enhances the status chance(and effect) of his weapons(basically, combined status also cause their base status effect as well), and it still would be a better ability than most of his kit.

    so heres a though for hydroid changes,
    number one make it so his ult doesnt actualy spawn tentacles instead have it be a watery zone that when enemies walk into it the tentacle burst force and drag them down. have it so there held to the ground instead of in the air it would solve the issue of all the tentacles spawning in one spot so you have to recast it and would solve the enemies flailing about part. this could also mean you can base the abilities damage of the gun used to fire it, using a high damage sniper the barage shots hit harder, using an explosive weapon you can hit more targets to mark more of them.
    number two, remove his passive and make it that when he does a slide he does a tidal surge on a short cd. the game gets to keep an augment and hydriod doesnt have to spend energy on a midling ability. it also means he gets to save mod space as he wouldnt nesisarily nead rolling guard.
    number three, make tidal barrage a strange weapon buff, it aplies like xakus void damage buff and cuases his shots to mark a enemy for a barage of lets say 4 to 6 barrage shots. this means corrosive barrage can be made into a weapon damage buff and a buff to his 1st ability.
    and last but not least give him an ability that interacts with his alies, mabey make it so he has the ability to give cc charges to an allie or if an allie is down he can call forth a tenticle to pull them to him.

    For corrosive barrage, they could make the augment retain the “old corrosive feel” where hydroid’s corrosive procs and weapons held by him that do corrosive don’t fall off, and for his puddle, make it when an enemey dies in it refund 50 energy, also just make it do true damage like his tentacles do. And of course, up the damage his 4 does, and they could make it so if you shoot near the tentacle your bullets are redirected to the grappled target, like how it works for mag

    one thing i feel is somewhat important to mention is how you can charge both of his charge abilities at the same time, meaning you can release them both fully charged right after the other. i actually used hydroid in a high level interception (i think it was an archon hunt?) and i think his biggest strength is the "satellite casting" where you can target your 1st and 4th ability anywhere you can see, giving you great opportunities for bombarding the other points with quick casts of his 1st ability to knock any weaker enemies down before you come in to remove any over-guard enemies. hydroid still needs more, at the very least, don't make his 3rd ability require so much energy considering how weak it is, however hydroid is still useful for his area control

    I hope one day Hydroid and Inaros get the reworks they deserve. Inaros is like one of my top 5 most used frames and I don't even know how I played him for so long. Hydroid should become the "ocean" frame and not just the water frame. Do more with the kraken, expand the storm theme, make him a pirate in abilities instead with gun abilities or something, not a damn puddle. The ocean is wild, powerful, and terrifying, Hydroid should reflect that.

    Probably a lot to implement but here’s my idea for a rework for our old boy hydroid
    Passive: plunder -enemies killed by hydroid have a increased chance to drop additional loot (pilfering swarm will not be affected because the chance is not super high keeping this augment mod relevant)
    I feel like I should start with his 3rd ability first because it ties into how whole kit. For the most part will act the same with an additional mechanic where enemies that are killed in his puddle “feed” the kraken and provides hydroid with different buffs and these effects will happen in 3 stages and it can accessed by using his holding the ability button.
    -increased health
    -increased ability strength
    -abilities gain additional effects
    1.) his barrage will increase the damage enemies take (and when reaching stage 3 of the feeding mechanic this ability will strip enemy defenses)
    -2 his second ability will be replaced with a exalted cannon (increase AOE when stage 3 is reached)
    -4 tentacle swarm does what it normally does ( deals increased damage along with summoning extra tentacles)

    I had a few ideas on how they could rework Hydriod. Making Undertow a Whirlpool that drains enemies into the center making it easier to kill "like shooting fish in a barrel". His Tentacles , rather than flopping around all willy nilly would come from Hydriod like a grab and strangling them into the depths and this could syngerzie with Whirlpool because you can just grab the enemies trapped in the pool and send them in the depth, this ability can take up to 8 enemies and do a new status called Drowned , that takes 10% of their health x how many enemies was caught if they are strip of shield or armor and deal status damage depending on Hydriod's Primiary weapon, if not strip then they just take 5% of their health taken. His movement ability would be a stream of water that on the ground and stays there for how much duration Hydriod has and the range based on any ranged mods, the stream would be a fast way for Hydriod to go from on place to another, as well enemies caught in the stream get drag on the other end , this can also syngerize with Whirlpool getting enemies dragged into the Whrilpool and getting Caught. Stream would have an augment to be able to fork a stream to another location for up to 2 times. His Air Tempest would be make his other ability have a strong pull force making the water rush faster and cause 2% of the enemies max hp for the duration of the tempest. For Pilfering Swarm it would be like the old swarm , however if killed by the depths instead of the tentacle. And and Augment of Whirlpool woud be Destructive Swirl which would strip Shield and Armor when casting Tempest. I think all these ideas would be good and maybe OP , but it stay true to a defensive warframe with cool offensive abilities.

    heres my rework idea
    the 1 gets quadrupled in quantity of droplets and duration. riptide and the ultimate ability get built into the movement during undertow, and undertow is now chargable. by tapping undertow you turn into the puddle and tentacles automatically spawn out of it as you move around, dashing activates riptide. by holding undertow, you summon the kraken like using the ult where your reticle is pointing. this leaves 2 open spots for new abilitys. my suggestion is a melee form based off of a dual whip stance where hydroid uses his tentacles to to attack large areas at once, possibly leaving tentacle puddles randomly in his wake. and a utility ability like water armor or something

    it's crazy hydroid is the water frame and all his abilities are low effort like why puddle? why not just replace it with something like an area aoe that traps enemies in water bubbles that drowns them or something like that or like controlling blood flow and shit to makes enemies explode and chain the explosion and what not they're dumb ideas but at least not puddle.

    Despite Hydroid being the game's worst frame in terms of usefulness, he's still my favourite, purely on his aesthetic/theme. All his abilities need major work, but one thing that kills me above all else is that when you tidal surge while in undertow, the drowning enemies don't get dragged along. They get released from the puddle. Really wish they'd change that. Anyway, great video!
