I said the same thing on Twitter earlier today. I get that he wants to write a big book but since his audience has been waiting for 13 damn years already I think it's time he splits the book and publishes what he has for now and continue the next book from there
If I recall correctly, George writes by POVs, not chronologically. He later splits it into chapters. So if he has 90% of book, he might have 9 out of 10 PoV characters done, and the remaining 10% is not at the end of the book, but throughout it. So he needs to finish it, and then go through everything he wrote to adjust things if needed. In short, with his style of writing it's impossible to release parts earlier.
@@Kaethanos You are right by that, George writes by POV. This works wonders if you write one (or two) POVs by location, but not when there are five POVs involved in one location. I personally do a mix of both. I first write mostly chronologically, then by POV to achieve a more distinct tone of voice for each POV. That's why George is a master in tone of voice... he stays in character throughout the entire process.

So if George had 1200 pages last year and now he has 1100 that means regardless of how much he wrote in all that progress has been eliminated by a major rewrite that has brought the page count down to 1100. Somehow George has achieved negative progress.

@@Dani_1012 That's manusscript pages for him. ADWD was about 1500 manusscript pages and ended up being about 900 to 1100 pages, depending on the print. TWOW will likely end up between 1100 and 1300 actual pages, unless the US publisher steps in.... again. ADWD was planned to be longer, if you didn't know it already, but the US publisher didn't want the book to be split into two volumes due to profit margins. Meanwhile UK editions, and most translations, have split it into two volumes for the reason that a 1000+ page book is fairly hard to read.
@@thedripkingofangmar6778 I don't think books can exceed like 1300 or something like that because the binders in hardcovers cannot withstand that amount of pages. I think Brandon Sanderson said this when he released Words of Radiance.
honestly think it’s his writing style, he likes to garden and write out, that’s why every location has little hidden plots in it, to make it interesting for himself, but now he’s at the point where he has to start wrapping things up, aka pruning plots, not fun for him
I think G.R.R. Martin has written himself into a corner and has been rewriting pages multiple times to get the "perfect" ending. I think he's been writing, but not new pages, only rewriting previous ones.

You're absolutely right. If George was actually close to finishing, he'd be on his blog every day, teasing little things, hyping fans up. Winds would be about all he can talk about. It's basic human nature for any proud artist.
over the years we’ve seen him talk about his progress less and less, anyone that’s actually working on a project LOVES to share their progress as they go, to hype the fans up and get a good release, he must’ve written almost nothing the past few years
This really sucks. I know everybody has given up hope that the book is coming out, but I really did think there was some momentum going on. This is repeatedly disheartening lol
After the runaway successes of Elden Ring and House of the Dragon, he’s probably in higher demand now more than ever. They don’t care about some silly books that he hasn’t even added onto in over a decade. I would love to see it happen, but it ain’t going to.
Even if all parties he’s _currently_ doing business with _do_ give him such an ultimatum, _someone_ will offer him money to do _something_ with _them_ instead. Apple, Amazon, Netflix, whatever.
I'm currently writing my own massive alternate history/cosmic horror series and after publishing the starter book 1 back at the end of August, I have only worked on book 2 and the illustrated book very little and I surprisingly have a small fandom awaiting the next books. Will definitely hit the pages hard during my vacation next week. But I understand that GRRM has probably lost his drive with this series at this point. When the passion and love is there you can tell. The love and passion for ASOIAF seems dimmed nowadays. But that's his choice and if he doesn't finish it, I'll support his choice or inability to continue.
This recent interview George had done mentioning 1100 pages, mixed in with another one where he doubted it will be completed by March 2025, George definitely hasn't made any progress. It'd be interesting which part of the book or which character is giving him grief!
It's too bad we'll never see the GRRM written ending for ASoIaF. I used to be optimistic about Winds but not as much as I used to be. I know for sure we'll never see A Dream of Spring.
He's mentioned the differences between Gone With the Wind book vs movie and the sequel to that book was written by a different author who used MM's notes and it turned out okay...
I remember reading an article where George praised Les Rois Maudits and the fact the author initially didn't finish the story, as that way everyone got to imagine their favourite ending for their characters. Theorycrafting has obviously been a big thing in the ASOIAF community and obviously George won't be able to meet everyone's expectations of where the story is headed. With the backlash of the show's ending I'm convinced that fear leads him to not finishing this story. And I have been for a while. Even though he shat over the show's final season, I think that's when he decided he would rather work on Blood & Fire and more Dunk and Egg stories.
But Les Rois Maudits were essentially done in 5 years! (Ehh, spoilers well, sort of... this stuff is 650 year old, so...) Indeed, Maurice Druon kind of stopped writing it, abruptly ending it with the death of Robert d'Artois, but the main series was done in 5 years. According to Druon's vision of history, the Hundred Years War was fueled by the ongoing feud between Robert and Mahout d'Artois - by the end of the penultimate book - Le Lis et le lion both of them are dead. Then, after 17 years Druon wrote sort of a sequel, a novel in retrospect, featuring the musings of certain cardinal - Helie de Talleyrand-Perigord, but the main plots were rounded up in the penultimate book. This last book, Quand un roi perd la France is kind of additional stuff, that you may read if you want, but you don't need it. It's as if George finished Winds of winter and Dream for spring and only then, decided to write Fire and blood. Sort of appendix, nice addition but not essential to the main events of his story.
If he's actually scared of the reaction he needs to buck up and stop being so craven. It's so much worse to continually lie and get our hopes up over and over again.
I can’t imagine why he doesn’t get a writing coach or something. Someone to sit there and force him to write and to take notes and look up background stuff too. Like three good interns, George.
The investigative journalism/oral history book of whatever problems he had with the plots and how he went back and forth on things, etc. is gonna be soooo good though
If you let him out of quarantine you had to know this was going to happen. Between NFL, conventions, and tv shows the man is never going to work on the book. He procrastinates and puts new tasks ahead of writing.
He should've never added Young Griff or the Dorne plot, he added a whole bunch of complex plot when he should've been ending some of the other plots for fuckssake
A rival Targaryen player/house was planned from early on and that's what brings Dorne into the game. I'm more inclined to believe the events in King's Landing and the Ironborn invasion is what's slowing him down, like, all the action is in the north as far as the major threat is concerned and too many pieces are too far away. If anything, Young Griff and Jon Con have made the most movement imo
I truly believe that George has written himself into a corner. He killed too many characters in too short a span of time, and doesn't know how to carry a story with what's left. I bet there's now several rough drafts where he thought about killing who is left, but realized that it would only make future chapters harder to write. He's having trouble making new characters, as the story is so deep these characters would basically erupt from the ether. Turns out Tolkien preserving the lives of most of his characters made sense after all.
Tolkien killed off most of his First Age characters, almost all the Numenoreans in the Second Age, and went easy only in the late Third Age: Boromir was the only member of the Company of the Ring to die prematurely. After the beginning of the First Age, down to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in the late Third, almost anyone can die. The First Age is basically Elves Behaving Badly - very badly. Really, really badly.
At this point, I almost think I’d recommend/would like to see him publish something that contains everything he’s written so far, and then notes, outlines, etc. detailing how the story ends. (Admittedly this is what I imagined him doing as the basis for my one chapter fan fic “Whispers on the Winds of Winter”. So I’m somewhat biased. Say, he wants to have this last work have a title like that…… ;) )
The reason he doesn't do that is probably that he doesn't have enough of winds set in stone yet to publish one volume. Meaning he's still revising and rewriting the beginning of the book, which is chapters he cut out of dance in 2010. He's obviously not going to finish the book.
George rr Martin isn’t finishing the books🤷♂️it’s over. We just have to deal with it. It’s been over a decade the shows been over almost four years and ADWD was 2011 it’s just not happening.
Anyone can critique Tolkien. Doesn't matter if you've finished your books or if you've even written any. They're just books, you can say whatever you want about them no matter who you are. Seriously, why do people get so hung up on his Tolkien critiques that weren't even that damning? He just didn't like a few things for some of his favorite books and he talked about how that influenced him. Not only is that normal, not only were the comments not even that damning, but they were made years ago. I don't get why Tolkien fans can't let it go already.
@@DweezyBreezey A lazy writer who thinks he is on the level of Tolkien but can't even finish his series and as such betrayed his reading fans have no right to say anything about Tolkien's work regarding the writing.
George, just give ua half of what you have writen, call it Winds os Winter part 1 (sell they both combined after), and give us the story so far with the timeline in order and we will be happy enough
He's admitted he's rewritten many of the early chapters of winds, which were cut from a dance with dragons. The fact that he hasn't even published those yet as a first volume means he's probably still rewriting them, 13 years later.
For a guy whose professio is to write, this is beyound the jokes. It's really damaging the story. If he wants do retire, just do it. Hire someone to finish the damn thing.

2030: "Official Announcement: ASOIAF new cook book will be release by the end of this year, I know you all care about another thing but THIS PROJECT REALLY MATTERS TO ME".
I dont know why always everybody talks about "pages", pages are bullshit, the type of font, the format of the page, the size of the font, all that affects the ammount of "pages". Books are measured by WORDS, the ammount of words is the real deal. For example your're writting a book and you have some idea on how big you want to make it, let's say 190.000 words. that same WORDS can be 500 pages or 300 pages in a docx format, depending on the font and format. So people, and specially George WHO SHOULD KNOW THIS, should start talking about word counting instead of "pages". That's how you measure progress in a novel.
I got into the show late petty much a month or two before season 8 came out And into the books about a year after that And even I’m starting to get annoyed about this
If he said/meant "100 pages to go" it may mean the publishers convinced him to finish up and publish SOMETHING as soon as he can. Sort of like "A Dance with Dragons" was published as an unfinished book. Which could mean three books to complete the series, not two :)
He should just let AI finish it at this point. Literally every year since however long it's been after the last book ASOIAF came out fan channels are like "Here it is, WOW is finally coming!!" Meanwhile GRRM has found time to do anything else but finish his main series... Fire & Blood, working on HOTD and a bunch of spinoffs, God knows what else. I would have taken ONE REALLY GOOD GAME OF THRONES SERIES from start to finish, based on actual finished book material, over every consolation spinoff show and consolation book combined. TBH I wish he had just finished Winds and Dream instead of writing Fire & Blood. He's never gonna finish this series, people. Look at the mans' physical condition-- does that look like a healthy man to you, one that's gonna live that much longer? Listen to all the vague excuse-making in his interviews-- does that sound like a guy that has any intention at all of finishing ASOIAF to you? NO. Neither thing. So we can enjoy our fan theories all we want, but we're never getting the books. At least I held off on investing all the time in reading the series to date. I saved myself the aggravation of not getting a proper ending twice instead of just suffering the destruction of the show.
The only progress one can hope for given the situation is that George has rewritten several chapters that were already written. That way we're closer to Winds in its final form, though not closer to the final page count.
In a sense him having fewer pages could be a good sign (he is editing and tightening to get a final version). I take the point, though, that this is not likely.
I’m pretty sure he’s just rewriting a ton. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes into dozens of different events and “timelines” for each character in each of their chapters then seeing how that affects every other character and then that just creates more threads and on and on it goes. Obviously I’m coping a bit here but not adding onto the page count doesn’t mean he’s not working on it at all.
Guys it is simple George wrote 200 manuscript pages this last year. He therw out 250 Manuscript pages this last year. A mix of new and old so he rewrites the old. Can everyone see the problem! Haha I belive if you took a time line of his writing there would be years where he threw more pages away then he is keeping.
Could he release what he has as an unfinished Winds NOTES compendium? Making it expressly clear this is an unfinished partial draft and is still subject to change? It would sell like crazy. And the actual book would still sell, ESPECIALLY if he announces it has major changes and updates and it contains the ending chapters. He’d make bank, and it would be a great gesture of goodwill…❤
Money has nothing to do with it. And no, that’s a ridiculous idea. If anything he can edit the book into two halves and publish the first part of what he’s written until he finishes the second half.
Late comment but just thought I'd add that when making any complex creative work like writing a novel, there's far more work involved than just writing pages, including planning/plotting everything out in advance, collecting ideas to work into (or not... it's rare that every idea makes it in) the story, insane amounts of research to help to cultivate these ideas as well as base them in some kind of historical and believable context etc. I don't know George's methods but if a typical work-day = sitting at his computer and typing what comes to mind until the book has a higher-page count, then I'd be very surprised. We also don't know how much has been scrapped, reworked and re-written but it's often part of the creative process for anyone undertaking a large project. Ongoing pre-production work can take far longer than the 'writing', depending on the project and doesn't add a single word to the manuscript. Having 0 pages left also doesn't mean that it's done. Just in case anyone reads this as a 'cope' post, personally, I don't really care if it's in development hell or not very much but after some experience working on some large projects, I don't often hear many of these aspects discussed or even mentioned.
There will be no backlash because he will build it up PROPERLY! There was nothing wrong with how the show ended. the problem is the set up was terrible and made the ending make no sense.
His books will end nothing like the show. Characters are missing from the show entirely, others that did appear right to the end are already dead in the books. Whole character storylines were changed or merged. Anyone who thinks that the books will end anything like the show, clearly hasn’t read the books 😅
Can you do an episode where you can estimate where in winds of winter 1100 pages would be. What could possibly be happening at 75% mark that is getting him stuck?
But he doesn't write the story consecutively... For example it would be completely possible that he wrote nothing about the North, whereas all of the other storylines are finished.
It's funny to me that people don't realize that he is often lying in his updates, to sound like he actually is working on it, when in reality he probably goes years between each time he is in a phase where he actually writes something.
Im a new book reader. I am stuck on feast. Its taking me so long to read and i honestly don't like it. Am i missing something? The first 4 books were so good
No, you're good. It's a slog after Storm of Swords. Originally, the last 2 books were written as one giant tome of George basically moving characters around for his endgame. Feast has almost no discernible plot movement, but Dance is a little better.
Realistically we probably won't get an official update from George on TWOW until HOTD season 2 trailer or release. Like last year when HOTD premiered he was active on not a blog and regular interviews but since then it has been radio silence.
I overheard PJ list a GRRM quote that seemed to defend a lot of these box office flops by reasoning just because they made 200 million dollars doesn’t make them a failure. PJ sided with GRRM’s position but both failed to observe the budgets of these movies, their low attendance based on the thousands of theaters they were in usually somewhere from 3-4,000 theaters which does not include how many screens they occupy within each theater respectively, the fact that low budget movies with a fraction of the marketing budget have outperformed a majority of these Marvel Film’s e.g. “Sound of Freedom,” and lastly commensurate with the overall population in the U.S. of 400 million people including illegal aliens selling 5 million tickets (if they get to 100 million US box office at $20 per ticket) to a 500 million dollar plus budget movie like “The Marvels” is not a success. How could it be? What do a lot of those phony marketing ads try to promulgate “critical success” no definitely not that either. You guys aren’t stupid RTR you are just in denial. The movies and tv series have collectively sucked for Disney, Marvel, Lucas Film, Amazon ever since “ me too” and the sooner everyone admits it so things can return to a semblance of normality the better.
I was so convinced he finished that bunch of cersei chapters this year too… but he really didn‘t .. i had to double check and all… we are never getting this book
Why do people keep taking what he said on an animated show parody seriously? Despite it clearly being a tongue-in-cheek referance to how long he's taking on TWOW, people still treat it like it's fact. Unless he's given that exact number elsewhere, it should be taken with a grain of salt. If it was a geniune response then that's a weird place to announce something like that.
I hope I am wrong but guys Winds isn’t happening. And if by some chance it does we are not getting a final book. It’s a damn shame. I wish it weren’t true. But look at the facts the books are like the guys fifth priority. The show happening killed the final books happening.

his writing style and the content of these books simply means that the longer they go on the exponentially longer it takes to write them. he will never be able to finish the last one
he’s at the point in the story where he should be TRIMMING plots down, finishing off minor characters so that the final book can end the story and focus on main plots, but he just keeps adding more plots… no wonder he can’t finish it there’s like 5000 characters that need to be worked on
Why do I wish to torture myself? All these years and for some reason I think I will hear some good new, but every single mention no matter what it always ends up being bad news lol I need a new hobby this is taking years off my life
The series is obviously never being finished. We MAY get Winds...but does that even really matter if we never get the ending? (I do think Winds will be released someday since so much of it has been written)
Someone could take over if it's not completed when George dies. A good example is The Wheel of Time. That being said: It has far more characters than The Wheel of Time, so many authors might balk at tasking it on - particularly as George himself gets confused as who is doing what, why and when on occasion. Personally, I've only ever seen the HBO series but was thinking at one point of starting the books but am glad that I didn't now.

@@ocsjc13I’d argue that it did. The pitiful ending of Game of Thrones, along with the pandemic coalesced into a perfect storm for George to write hundreds of pages as he so often stated. If The House of the Dragon were to fail, along with the rest of the spin-offs (which I think is unlikely), I don’t think it’s unreasonable that another storm might form and cause George to write enough to finish the book.
Jesus guys, we all know that George is procrastinating this behemoth of a project and that the book is very late, we don't have to make shit up like him exaggerating the number of pages he has written. This is him, in 2011, talking about the partial drafts he'd sent of ADwD over the years: "That page count of 542 finished pages in January 2006 could not have been much different from what I’d had in June 2005, when I split the books. And the year or so that followed proved the folly of my prediction. The next partial I sent to Bantam is dated October 2007, and it is 472 pages long. Yes, in the year and a half between the two partials, I had managed to UNwrite some seventy pages. I was doing a lot more revision and rewriting - and restructuring - during this period than I was making forward progress." He's talked previously about page numbers going down when he's revising what he has written. Chill.
Wrighting isn't a staight line, pages get removed, new ones added, others edited. Seems like it's slow because the story is hard to resolve, so who cares how many pages there are. He can wright at a decent pace when he's got a clean vision. What I wanna know is how much less snared have the story elements gotten. If that's making progress then it's all good. That's not necessarly helped by time facerolling a typewrighter as the manuscript chages boldly down a dead end. I hope by the time he's back at pace wrighting WoW that Dream of Spring also make sense in his head. Im actually dying at the idea of someone running George’s voice through a program to cope
Exactly

He took that strike very seriously
Optimist: The book will be 1200 pages, he's edited 1100, 'a hundred to go', book announced for next Christmas.
Pessimist: He's done nothing, you're never getting this book lmao
More like realist.
The book will be 1500 pages
Didn't he say he wanted the book to be 1800 pages? Or that that was his estimation of the total page length?
@@Dani_1012
That's manusscript pages for him.
He said recently he wrote chapters and threw them away
why would he EVER admit that under his current circumstances?
he’s never finishing the series whether winds ever comes out or not we might as well give up.
He's a bit of a perfectionist, but at least he doesn't tell stories like d and d did.
@TheCreepyLantern
He has a long history of dumping chapters. He's read some of them in the past.
honestly think it’s his writing style, he likes to garden and write out, that’s why every location has little hidden plots in it, to make it interesting for himself, but now he’s at the point where he has to start wrapping things up, aka pruning plots, not fun for him
I think G.R.R. Martin has written himself into a corner and has been rewriting pages multiple times to get the "perfect" ending. I think he's been writing, but not new pages, only rewriting previous ones.
Why dont he just release what he's done so far, then he can release the rest as DLC, and we can just pay for that separate lmao
My best friend is a huge berserk fan, and I gave him SOOOO much shit about the story never getting finished....... now I have known for a while, we will never get Winds or Dream, but now Berserk is going to be finished, and he won't hold back his shit talk now. XD
You're absolutely right. If George was actually close to finishing, he'd be on his blog every day, teasing little things, hyping fans up. Winds would be about all he can talk about.
It's basic human nature for any proud artist.
It's not basic human nature, it's business logic
over the years we’ve seen him talk about his progress less and less, anyone that’s actually working on a project LOVES to share their progress as they go, to hype the fans up and get a good release, he must’ve written almost nothing the past few years
We are all going to be gone before this book is done
It is seriously possible that some would-be readers of TWOW will die before it is published. This wait makes one realise how short life is.
This really sucks. I know everybody has given up hope that the book is coming out, but I really did think there was some momentum going on. This is repeatedly disheartening lol
there is some progress...from 1500 towards 1000
I think everyone believes it's possible for Winds to come out. 5 or 6 years from now maybe, if we get it at all. But we all know ADOS isn't happening
@@ExtraVictory
ADOS might be easier than TWOW though.
It entirely depends on the amount of POVs involved in same locations.
@@WritingGeekNL it wouldve been easier to write if george wasnt like 80 and had 20 projects going on at the same time. we are never getting this book.
Can we make the entire entertainment industry sanction George until he finishes Winds specifically?
After the runaway successes of Elden Ring and House of the Dragon, he’s probably in higher demand now more than ever. They don’t care about some silly books that he hasn’t even added onto in over a decade. I would love to see it happen, but it ain’t going to.
Even if all parties he’s _currently_ doing business with _do_ give him such an ultimatum, _someone_ will offer him money to do _something_ with _them_ instead. Apple, Amazon, Netflix, whatever.
I once had an especially dumb manager who called me lazy because the # of lines of code went down. I just laughed in his face
His drive has been diminished with Feast and totally extinguished with Dance. Creating an ASOIAF cinematic universe is what stimulates him now.

"Don't worry the pages are coming"....years later "Oh Don't worry the pages are coming"
This recent interview George had done mentioning 1100 pages, mixed in with another one where he doubted it will be completed by March 2025, George definitely hasn't made any progress.
It'd be interesting which part of the book or which character is giving him grief!
I will consider it luck if we get Winds before the end of 2025 honestly. There's no way this book is coming in 2024.
I cannot believe someone did sound analysis what the hell
This is how desperate the fandom is, honestly it's both hilarious and pathetic 🤣🤣🤣
Saddest thing is the books themselves, the series, ain't worth it like that. It's just trash literature
A dream of spring is just a dream
(Ehh, spoilers well, sort of... this stuff is 650 year old, so...)
Indeed, Maurice Druon kind of stopped writing it, abruptly ending it with the death of Robert d'Artois, but the main series was done in 5 years.
Like three good interns, George.
holy hell man buy a fucking ghost writer who you approve of and just edit/heavily supervise his work without telling anyone
That's literally what he does and why he's taking so long lmao.
A World of Ice and Fire was pretty much ghost written by a couple friends who keep track of his continuity for him if I recall correctly.
The investigative journalism/oral history book of whatever problems he had with the plots and how he went back and forth on things, etc. is gonna be soooo good though
This and rothfuss
Nah rothfuss is openly a joker@@turtleanton6539
Thank you for mentioning the reddit thread 30 times and not link it in the description. You guys are truly smart! I love this kind of competence. :)
Were never gonna see this book. 1100 pages for a big book is not much. Think how much of that needs to be revised as well.
Say, he wants to have this last work have a title like that…… ;) )
I have accepted that we're not getting winds but it still hurts to get these updates
It’d be interesting if he just published everything he has right now as Winds Volume 1
that would literally satisfy the fanbase for like 4 years atleast. dont know ehy he just doesnt tidy up what he has now and finish the rest afterwards

And yet, this man has the effrontery to presume to critique Tolkien.
Tolkien at least finished his main work
Anyone can critique Tolkien.
@@DweezyBreezey A lazy writer who thinks he is on the level of Tolkien but can't even finish his series and as such betrayed his reading fans have no right to say anything about Tolkien's work regarding the writing.

i’d be fine with that doubt he’d do it, I’m sure his publisher has presented this idea to him.

Brandon Sanderson writes 5 books for every 50 words George does

I thought he would have written 100 pages at least. I guess I didn’t get zero work done on WoW on my 2023 bingo card 😂
If he said/meant "100 pages to go" it may mean the publishers convinced him to finish up and publish SOMETHING as soon as he can. Sort of like "A Dance with Dragons" was published as an unfinished book.
Which could mean three books to complete the series, not two :)
I Guess A Dream of Spring… is a dream
The copium from ASOIAF fans is, as always, weapons-grade.
I saved myself the aggravation of not getting a proper ending twice instead of just suffering the destruction of the show.
hes not gonna finish this. for quite some time i thought he'd not manage to get spring done but no way in hell this ever sees the light of day.
This book better cure cancer I swear to christ.
When the audio file got busted out I started dying 😂😂😂
I’m pretty sure he’s just rewriting a ton. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes into dozens of different events and “timelines” for each character in each of their chapters then seeing how that affects every other character and then that just creates more threads and on and on it goes. Obviously I’m coping a bit here but not adding onto the page count doesn’t mean he’s not working on it at all.
Yeah it may still mean he's working on it and he hasn't completely given up
Guys it is simple George wrote 200 manuscript pages this last year. He therw out 250 Manuscript pages this last year. A mix of new and old so he rewrites the old. Can everyone see the problem! Haha I belive if you took a time line of his writing there would be years where he threw more pages away then he is keeping.
we're getting GTA 6 before Winds 💀
Ok, so what’s the point of waiting for Winds now? This book will be out in 2040 at this rate.
there is none and even if he does finish it he won’t finish the story.
At this point I'm almost more invested in the rl internet "meta" story of this series.
One in which you two are major characters lol
No joke. The conversation around the writing of the winds of winter is damn near as interesting as the books themselves.
I honestly think he is writing a decent amount, I just think he keeps going back and re-writing instead of writing forward progress
He ain't a real storyteller, anyways
He won’t finish it.
His book is almost the same as the show and he doesn’t want to deal with back lash
There will be no backlash because he will build it up PROPERLY! There was nothing wrong with how the show ended. the problem is the set up was terrible and made the ending make no sense.
Thank you. I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed that.
His books will end nothing like the show. Characters are missing from the show entirely, others that did appear right to the end are already dead in the books. Whole character storylines were changed or merged. Anyone who thinks that the books will end anything like the show, clearly hasn’t read the books 😅
I waited 7 years for the Winds of Winter before I realized I could never trust George's updates
That was in 2017
Can you do an episode where you can estimate where in winds of winter 1100 pages would be. What could possibly be happening at 75% mark that is getting him stuck?
This
Guys this aint healthy
@@NotYurAverageJoe 🤣
But he doesn't write the story consecutively... For example it would be completely possible that he wrote nothing about the North, whereas all of the other storylines are finished.
I just want Winds to end with the final scene of S7. Thaaat’s a cliffhanger.

Of course! He actually finished his initial series!
I’m new to Game of thrones but have watched all the seasons and episodes plus prequel; house of dragons …
So what’s this one about?
Where are the fan fic chapters? Sorry, at this point I don't care about George. That ish will never be done. After that awesome Bran chapter, I need more, and something that actually advances the plot. So far every character is in the same place as George. Sorry, but now Preston gets the where is my Winds? aggression. :)
his writing style and the content of these books simply means that the longer they go on the exponentially longer it takes to write them. he will never be able to finish the last one
Did you hear about deus ex machina?? It's so easy to end books. It's a trash series anyway
he’s at the point in the story where he should be TRIMMING plots down, finishing off minor characters so that the final book can end the story and focus on main plots, but he just keeps adding more plots… no wonder he can’t finish it there’s like 5000 characters that need to be worked on
Why do I wish to torture myself? All these years and for some reason I think I will hear some good new, but every single mention no matter what it always ends up being bad news lol I need a new hobby this is taking years off my life
Time to call Sanderman.
@@banedon8087 the books are still worth reading, IMO...even if it never is finished. I still enjoy re-reading them and imagining what could be. Admittedly, reading them may end up being bittersweet, though.

the only thing i could imagine that could potentially motivate martin to finish the books would be if house of dragon season 2 ended up being terrible and badly received and if the other game of thrones spinoff fail too or get cancelled, the success of house of the dragon has made martin too comfortable
Stop it if game of thrones ending didn’t motivate him why tf do u think house of the dragon would be any different
@@Heyman11555Delulu.
Jesus guys, we all know that George is procrastinating this behemoth of a project and that the book is very late, we don't have to make shit up like him exaggerating the number of pages he has written. This is him, in 2011, talking about the partial drafts he'd sent of ADwD over the years:
"That page count of 542 finished pages in January 2006 could not have been much different from what I’d had in June 2005, when I split the books. And the year or so that followed proved the folly of my prediction. The next partial I sent to Bantam is dated October 2007, and it is 472 pages long. Yes, in the year and a half between the two partials, I had managed to UNwrite some seventy pages. I was doing a lot more revision and rewriting - and restructuring - during this period than I was making forward progress."
He's talked previously about page numbers going down when he's revising what he has written. Chill.
It's more fun to ignore this and just pretend GRRM is doing nothing I guess.
Most sane comment
Guys, guys, it's ok that after 13 years he still has to reedit and lose pages cause... Reasons
Just 5 more years left wohoo
I think he decided to split TWoW and hence he’s in editing mode.
You can't unpublish book 6 to untangle book 7 after all... he needs to resolve all the endgames now.
