One thing that's also worth noting with Dracula X Chronicles is that Annette actually becomes a boss fight if you don't save her. Dracula will turn her into a succubus to spite Richter and she replaces Shaft's spirit as the boss of Stage 7.
This also kind of happens in "dracula x" on the snes. A giant eyeball replaces death in stage 7, and after you beat it it turns into Annette and she dies.

Interesting divergence from the original is that in DXC, whenever you defeat a boss that'd take you to an alternate stage is that the orb you collect is blue instead of red. -- Stage 5` is another divergence from the original, in quite a few ways. In Rondo, it's unlocked after beating the game(defeating Dracula) and beating either Stage 4 or 4`'s alternate exit boss. Doing so before defeating Dracula just plops into regular Stage 5. In DXC, you can get to it after defeating Death and beating the alternate exit boss for Stage 4 or 4`. Interesting additional detail in DXC is that if you defeat Carmilla without defeating Death first, Death will steal away the blue orb and replace it with a red one forcing you to play normal Stage 5 first forcing you fight Death. Another divergence of Stage 5` from both games is that in Rondo, it was just a challenge(kinda ROMHacky-difficult) stage with 2 paths that just ends with no boss for both, it just puts you on Stage 6 after reaching the end. Basically it comprises of tiles and graphics from all over the game in a sequence not really thematically connected rooms beyond the extreme challenge presented. After all, this is just bonus content after beating the game. In DXC, they made this stage a beast of its own and it even has an exclusive boss! The two paths still exists presenting different challenges depending if you took top or bottom stairs like in the original but both of them still lead to the same exclusive boss. However, one of the paths is special. Before reaching the transition to the pre-boss chamber, you'll notice some stairs going down but you can't get to it no matter what. In order to get to it, you need to beat True Dracula (the one where you rescued all of the maidens.). Once you do, that path is open to face another exclusive boss in the remake. Both bosses still plop you onto Stage 6 but I like how the remake did this. Considering this alternate boss for the last alternate stage is a boss you can potentially miss if you went and rescued all the maidens before getting to the Stage 7 boss. -- This is also a divergence from the original that I wish was mentioned is that there is consequences for not rescuing all of the maidens before reaching the Stage 7 boss arena. Typically, in the original, you just fought Shaft's Ghost but in the remake if you didn't rescue Annette well... Stage 5`'s alternate boss is a nice way to tie up the bow for bosses so you have means to fight them all in a somewhat normal playthrough.

It's not forgotten; it was just a bit mediocre sadly. They could have done SO much more with it. But even the 3d models were pretty bad and the game was much uglier compared to the original. Nothing at all was done with the outdated gameplay either and many sound effects were randomly swapped around for a number of things. The added 3rd form of Dracula was ok. But a new massive demonic one would have been much cooler than just the base Dracula with wings added. And the attacks for this new form were all pretty easy to dodge. It just felt tame vs how epic it should have. The only really good points were the remade music/videos, the remake of stage 5 with the new boss, and the art by Kojima. Its still worth playing; it just wasn't nearly as mind blowing as the original Rondo release was. Would still recommend it though. Especially since it comes with the original Rondo, and a decent version of SOTN. Great video BTW.

@lemonov3031 I think you mis-interpreted with my statement about the pixel art cutscenes. My opinion was that they contrast with what I personally attach to what Casltevania’s aesthetic is, that being the more gothic entered art we’ve come to see with Ayami Kojima’s art, not that it’s “bad because it’s anime”. I didn’t even say they were bad cutscenes , I still like them, they are beautifully crafted and add great emphasis to the moments in which they are used. Just because I’m comparing the original to the remake doesn’t mean one game is better or worse, they are both great games that bring unique things to the same story. Enjoy whichever version you want!
Ah the 3D version burns my eyeballs. There's like no depth, everything is bright, you can't even tell the foreground and background apart. The upscaling doesn't helped either, there's like an outline around 2D sprites.
One version isn't necessarily better than the other, both versions have something great to bring to the table, but in terms of actual availability and status within the general public, Dracula X Chronicles definitely needs more attention!! The original game only broke around 400,000 sales, so that's about 0.5 percent of the entire PSP player base owning it. (not including the high seas of course) It is great to see the redesigns being used in more modern projects as well, and hopefully the trend will continue! Just because I’m talking about both doesn’t mean I prefer one version over the other, I just wanted to bring attention to both games! Hope you enjoy whatever version you decide to play, just enjoy Castlevania!!
Cartoon, not anime. It's a American studio and publisher, it was just marketed as an anime by Netlfix because it's popular and gets more traction. Powerhouse Animation also did He-Man and the Tomb Raider animations, they certainly don't look like anime. That aside, the show is so different from the games it really hasn't brought new fans, but rather fans of the show. It appeals to a certain crowd because of how they present the characters in a very American way, but then the games are entirely different. It would be a jarring contrast and push people away that expect something edgy when Castlevania is very black/white and altruistic. There are a small number that dig into the lore and become fans of what they find, but many that just tune in will only watch the show and think that is accurate to the IP, leading to arguments online. I was wondering what was the forgotten remake, but I see it was bait with the title lol! Well played.
@@blumiu2426 The show and the Games are definitely very different beasts. I always prefer the dramatic style and cut and dry themes of the games (especially Lament of Innocence).
This looks like a mobile game😢
Underrated Channel and video
Poor Annette. Those evil doers have stretched her neck !!
I got this on my modded ps4.😮😮😮😮
I remember buying this for only 12 bucks. Oh, how much times have changed...

@@immortalfrieza Yeah, essentially, scalping infestation.
@ I’m more talking about the retro game market space, but also 100% a bunch of games these days can be sold for cheaper (looking at you last of us remakes)
I always find kind of strange Konami ported Silent Hill Origins to the PS2 but not this game. I guess the numbers weren't there.
Its late in life of ps2
Haunted Castle Revisited *is* a new Castlevania game, no matter how you look at it.
"on nooo, the game looks too anime"
Stopped watching. Rondo is cool because it's the way it is. Trying to pigeonhole it to match Symphony results in a worse product, just like this re-release shows. It's forgotten for a reason.
I think Rondo of Blood ages sooo much better. The remake looks really dusty by today‘s standards. Rondo‘s amazing pixel art still slaps.
@@silentrocco rondo of blood is timeless!!!
Forgotten? Dont see how if is much better than the actual rondo of blood they even used this game's marias design for the tv series

@@claudijatzandrapova3347 they are hella stinky so fleaman makes sense HAHA
Why is the opening in German tho? Or is it just a Rom issue?
@@MrJonh95 the original rondo of blood also has a German intro! Probably done for a couple reasons 1. It just sounds super cool, adds to the atmosphere 2. Might be a reference to a lot of Germans coming into Transylvania back in the day, that’s just my guess though! 3. Richter is Judge in German, so definitely some intentional stuff with the intro
Can you not just spam the holy water item crash on Dracula like you can in Symphony of the Night at the beginning?
I just can't get behind these 3d castlevania games. I'm not a fan. Castlevania is best as a 2d style game. I hope e get a new one soon. There's obviously a demand with the success of Bloodstained and so many other Metroidvanias.
I want to add that I'm OK with 3d style 2d or hd2d style for the next one. This one is great. But the 3d ones where the gameplay is 3d just don't work for me.
@@DJ_Inversion I’m just hoping with all the new crossovers that konami will actually make something, but with IGA doing Bloodstained 2 atm I’m not sure how much hope I have for a new konami Castlevania
@GuacaTypeBeat I know what you mean. Still, at least we have that to look forward to.
And yet some people claim that Rondo of Blood did not have a story to adapt into an 'anime'. What we got with Nocturne is just not Castlevania, at all.
Nah, youre crazy. The psp remake doesnt look as good as the original for a single second. Every would-be decent frame is cheap and washed out.
@@GrizzV991 each to their own! I guess I’m also viewing the art style within the context of its release, and I’ve also played it on a psp screen as well which looks a lot better than on a big screen but nothing wrong with preferring the OG or the remake! I personally think it really shows the potential of Castlevania in 3D!
It does bring more eyes to Castlevania, same with all the remakes and crossovers, I’m just hopeful that with all the attention more people will try the amazing games, and hell, maybe we will even get a new game one of these days! Until then, I wait for a port of Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness
