    I enjoyed your walk around your lava lot. I hope you can learn to like avocados. I hope you never cut down another avocado tree. Animals will enjoy them and I'm sure your neighbors would appreciate them. Food is expensive and hard to come by these days for some people. I recall a Big Island resident falling into an unknown lava tube on his property in the backyard and disappearing. I guess his yard was lush and the tube was hidden. Thank you for sharing the interesting fact about the Ohia tree. I liked seeing the variety of plants growing out of cracks and crevices of lava. Mahalo 🌺

    Wow! 3 years already? An excellent decision on your part to purchase the lava lot. (Although some viewers thought you were nuts at the time if I remember correctly.) It has brought hours and hours of enjoyment for you and all of us. The avos love the jungle section of the lava lot and so do we :-)

    It’s amazing what’s growing in the lava. I’m an avid gardener and didn’t know stuff could grow directly in the lava like that. Thought it would need some other organic matter. Fantastic.

      I think that the volcanic rock contains the essential nutrients that plants need, that haven't been leached away in old soils.

    Neat to see how quickly plants can grow on the new lava. The wet climate of the northeast side of Kilauea must help. The new lava has plenty of minerals but no soil to store water.

    I was there about 6 months or so before the lava flow ....the manager of Leilani Estate wanted a concrete pad for a home.. a hole dug in the lava for a concrete septic tank and he said he would fly his drone over everyones property to make sure they complied with those rules...seemed a bit much to me in that area...so I did not buy...I met a young couple that bought...had a clearing bulldozed and their family was helping them pay for itI think he said a uncle was going to park his boat there and use the close by launching ramp..I wonder if their land got covered I think it was in the area closer to the Ocean in LE......

    Hello Scott!
    It's amazing to think in May it'll be 4 years since the eruption! Man time sure goes by fast as we age, trees get rings and we get wrinkles & rusty!
    Very nice of you to show us your lot again, very surprised some of those things are still growing! (I still would be hauling some soils, dead leaves, and such to put around some of your plants to invigorate and help them gain a better foothold in the crispy world of theirs.)
    I even started a 'Hawaii' fund for a vacation to visit the Big Island, you and your lot.
    But many things changed for the worse, not just for me but for many. So I had to use my vacation fund on utility bills and, cancel any or all vacations I'd planned. (Lost my job of 8 years just 2 months before the virus was let loose, the same week my van's motor blew and I lost an Uncle to Cancer.)
    ~
    Anyway, I tried to be optimistic during these last few years but more bad luck followed my life's journey and, hit our family too.
    My little sister, Elizabeth Dian "Buffy" DeBolt passed away on September 4th, 2021 after 26 days on a vent. She would've turned 50 this past January 7th. We miss her dearly as her newly 8-year-old adopted Son does too, it's so sad to think what goes through his head after knowing his Father committed suicide in late 2018 and, now losing his Mother.
    ~~
    Needless to say, life goes on, with us or without us. Just as your plants and flowers are trying to take back the lava field/lot.
    ~~~
    Thanks again for sharing this update! (I still watch MANY of you and Charles videos I just don't comment as much as I used to.)
    Be well, stay safe and God Bless you & your family.
    How does the lava field react to rain? Does it absorb the water or does it run off in channels? Btw I'd use some of the mulch your making and put it around your plants, especially your dragon fruit. The mulch will help retain moisture and act as an organic material that can be broken down over time, grass clippings from your house would be a huge help as well as they break down super fast and promote mycelium growth.
    Where I live avos are rhe price of precious metals. And I do love them so. Our winter is too harsh so I have two tiny trees and never a fruit. Always some hail or frost killing off the baby fruit or yet again another extremity of the limbs. I think I could like living in Hawaii haha Flowers stunning. Thanks
