This feature has great potential. I spent my Sunday marking student PDFs on my smartphone. Zoom in for better accuracy. However, there are glitches, so be careful. In one of my marked documents, all markings turned horizontal and misaligned after saving. Had to remark. Another one didn't save markings on the 2nd page of the PDF. If I hadn't gone back to check the document, I wouldn't have realized it before returning the assignments.
I hope you see and answer this question: When students work in pairs (or groups) and submit their work individually, how can I grade only one document and include it in every students’ Classroom submission so I don’t have to grade the same document several times? I hope the question makes sense.
Hi Patricia! In this situation, you would need to leave a link to the graded document in the private comment section. You wont' be able to directly attach the file. If you do a lot of group projects, I would recommend watching this video which explains how you can set up a group project using Google classroom: th-cam.com/video/oRPp2_K0NuU/w-d-xo.html
Hi John, Are you sure that by only „saving“ the annotated document the Student will already be able to see it in his Classroom view? I guess you would in addition have to „return“ it to the student, wouldnt you? Thanx a lot for your excellent Videos! Greetings Matt from Germany
Hi John, I am working on a chromebook duet and when I hit the save button no pdf is created and you can't see my notes anymore. Am I missing something?
There is a known bug that is causing this issue. A lot of others are struggling as well. I don't have a guaranteed solution, but you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the classroom app. Doing a powerwash is also worth a try.
@@jrsowash Hi! Reinstalling the classroom app in android did the trick. I am able to markup assigments with my finger and have the students see their anotated works.
When I click on the pencil in upper right hand corner... I just get a blank black screen .... the student work does not show up.... the tools pop up for me to do correcting but again the assignment does not
How does this work with a PDF? When I open the assignment that they completed on Kami the assignment shows up but their work disappears. I still see markup but there isn’t anything but the original PDF
Are you using the free or premium version of Kami? In the free version, the student needs to get the link to their Kami assignment and add it to Google Classroom...it doesn't automatically update the original PDF. If you have the premium version, there is a "turn in" button that will automatically send the edited version of the PDF back to Google Classroom.
For some reason any time I save my marked up document it disappears and does not attach as an edited document to the student work. Can anyone advise? I used to be able to do this with no problem and now there is some glitch.
Hi John The app doesn't allow me to open student work. I can see their "handed in" submissions but when I click on them they will not open. There is only a window which talks about sending an email request for the access to the document. Am I missing something in settings perhaps?
@@jrsowash Hi John. Yes. I have used the website on my PC and have been grading using the little comment call outs and a comment bank. So when I saw your tutorial I downloaded the Android app onto a Toshiba tablet, and was testing to see if I should find a compatible "pen" on-line. The student work was listed but wouldn't open.
Make sure you have your school Google account connected to the classroom app. It sounds like it's trying to open the student documents using your personal Gmail account.
@@jrsowash Hi again John. Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the app is connected to the correct google account. At the top of my class list on the left of the screen, I can see that the account is indeed my school google account and not my personal one. Hi. I am thinking about buying an android device, so that it will be much easier to grade my students assignments in google classroom. Between an android tablet and a chromebook, which you will recommend?
Definitely a Chromebook. You'll get the best of Android and chrome OS! I really like the Lenovo Chromebook duet. It works very well as an Android tablet and, when you attach the keyboard, as a Chromebook..

The Google classroom app is required to annotate student work, therefore you won't be able to follow these exact steps on your PC. You can use something like Kami to accomplish the same thing, however.

I do not mark up responses in a Google form. I just give them a grade. When you look at the individual responses in Google forms you can add the grade and return the grade to the student.

Hi John, Your videos are always very helpful. Can I be able to download the Classroom app onto my Lenovo touchscreen laptop?
Only if it is a Chromebook.
Thank you! A major time saver for math teachers ❤️
Indeed!
Hey there! My iPad no longer has the option to annotate. When I open student work, it goes into editing mode in Google Docs.
I love what you do for teachers, but I need a solution for hand grading when I do not have access to a touchscreen please.

Hi. Do you know how to edit text notes after you have made them? Edit text, change size...etc....
I don't believe you can edit handwritten notes.

Hi. Is there a method to do this with your wacom graphics tablet.
The secret is the app, not the device. You need to be able to access the Android or iOS version of the Google Classroom app.
@@jrsowash if i sign in on a macbook would it work?
No. MacBooks do not have any way of running the mobile version of Google Classroom.
This is unfortunate, just bought a XP-Pen and figured it would work
Chrmbook not Normal Window ( T T )
Thank you!
How do you mark up and return Paragraph answers on Google Forms?
I do not mark up responses in a Google form. I just give them a grade.
When you look at the individual responses in Google forms you can add the grade and return the grade to the student.
Yes IPad. It just happened all of a sudden. It's been a few weeks now.
Just got the Apple Pencil from my district and this was SUPER helpful. Thank you
not any more they pulled it out you can't draw or write may 31,22
The annotation feature is still available for me on my Android device.
Students are able to see my corrections before I return the assignments!
And me here being poor, tho`this annotator is a big help well necermind
