My friend, you are a chocolate angel.....I have been beating my head against the wall and have watched everything I could. You just fixed my vents and my power brakes. They stopped working the same time. The vacuum system had a leak so I had no brake assist. I replaced every part and it is a $2 vacuum hose. I wish I had just mailed you the money I spent chasing your solution. Thank you my friend....J Sullivan, West Texas.
My Wife bought me a 2000 Explorer for my birthday and there is a problem with the controller for air direction change. Thanks for sharing this info with me because it has me started on the right track !
I spent hours under the dash trying to diagnose a servo issue, they all looked good but still had a diverter problem. I didn't realize there was one in the engine compartment until watching your video. I replaced that servo and now good as new! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for your video, Robert. I have been breaking my head for a while trying to find out how to fix this issue on my 96 F-250 and you nailed it. God bless you!
ok - I found your link, extremely helpful for the problem of defrost-only heat. I studied the vaccuum lines on my '02 F250, and found a disconnected fixture next to my battery - that I had to replace not long ago. Must have knocked it loose in the replacement. Even tho your video displayed an older model - you are right in thinking 'just study the lines' - and your piece showed me where to look and basically what to look for. I posted this link on the Ford Enthusiasts page on two strings dealing with this topic. THANK YOU, ROBERT!
Thank you -- you are the only one to show photos this clear. Also, you were thinking out loud supposing what each line did - you nailed the correct colors and the operation.
This video helped me out so much. I bought a 1992 F350 that a squirrel had lived in and gnawed through the white vacuum line under the hood and I was having trouble figuring out where it went. Very detailed video. Thanks.
So at 5:30 AM after watching the video I went out to my truck raised the lines and noticed that in taking out the glove bo and moving the temperature selector to see if it worked right ..it looked like the plastic part was busted and they had sort of wired it but as soon as IO pushed the line all the way over it seemed like the AC got much colder...granted it is 6 am but I feel like was the key and your video made it possible so THANK YOU I live in AZ all summer so no AC Sucks big time Thanks again!
Mr. Robert. Heapings of God's blessings on you. I have been collecting these OBS Fords for a couple years, learning lots from youtube and teaching myself plenty, too. This is in the Top 10 for DIY help for this blue oval fan!! I have vacuum lines flopping around the servos in my engine bays and under the dashes of all my old trucks. I'm gonna invest in a bulk of appropriate interior-diameter hose (probably the more durable, thick, black hose for hydrualics) and mark all of the existing and replaced vacuum tubing with various colors of electrical tape and Sharpie lables. I'm psyched to get started, now - and especially to have performance (for EGR and smog system) and climate control restored in my fleet.
Thanks. Mine just blows through the defrost so I definitely have one of those vacuum lines disconnected. Was working on the engine today and must have accidentally disconnected one and when I went out later the a/c wasn't coming out the vents. Just the defroster. 97 degrees today. Don't need defroster. Thanks buddy..
My problem was that mice chewed through the vacuum hoses attached to the selector switch. These hoses cannot be pulled off the connectors and replaced. So I spliced them using 2mm ID, 4mm OD vacuum hoses and 9mm Spring Band clamps. It works terrific.
awesome video getting ready to purchase a 94 f350 7.3 idi turbo diesel and the guy told me the ac vent selection knob like you described just recently stopped working, now i have an idea on what to do to fix it. cheers
Yes, this info was excellent. I recently purchased a fully restored mustang gt and the motor was converted to carb. So of-course the harness was cut! This makes sense now. I need to create the
Followed Roberts video on heater control & found white vacuum line totally gone under hood on passenger side. Live in the bush in Alaska & minus 40 to minus 60 degree temp hard on rubber & plastic parts. Didn’t have access to parts place so improvised, as often happens in bush. Took a section of phone line& stripped internal phone wires out. The phone line worked& got good heater control. Was warm all the way to town,120 miles distant.
I must say brilliant for going to a junk yard. Especially one where you can pull parts. That way you could show the details without the worry of oops, broken, and replacement.
Good info going to check my vacuum lines getting very little heat from defrost and not very much air flow climate control seems to not go completely to hot knob feels springy like something holding it back
Wasn't what I was looking for but nice video and informative thank you. I was wondering if you know of any solutions to replacing the climate control temperature adjustment cable on the back side of the unit. I am not sure how to get the old cable off the back side with out potentially breaking the plastic mount. It looks to pop off and I can destroy the old one without getting too upset but obviously do want to break the new replacement plastic mount putting the temperature adjustment cable back onto it. I have been looking online but haven't found a video on how to get the cable off and back on without losing my cool and just snapping the brittle plastic. The plastic vacuum connectors are broken so I am planning on replacing the entire unit with a newer one and that includes popping on and off that temperature adjustment cable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated...thank you. 1994 Ford Bronco
Very informational video. I think I have the same problem with my 98 expedition that I bought last night. I have both heat and A/C, but the A/C only comes out of the defrost, and the heat only comes out of the rear floor. Sound right? Thanks!
I've got a 2003 F-250 diesel 6.0. My problem hasn't been discussed anywhere.. My hvac blower stays on high even with the control panel in off position. When I turn off ignition it will stop!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..
@@RobertDIY I knew that but my mule headed nephew disagrees ! Thank You Sir. Keep the videos coming. They are greatly Appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!
Good Video Robert. I have the same truck and was having trouble switching the temperature control knob (middle knob) from hot to cold and vice versa. It will eventually go, but I have to slowly walk it around a little at a time, otherwise it feels like it may break something. what can be done to free that up.
What does that last servomotor do that's in the engine bay in the passenger side do? Is it to close the damper to recirculate the interior air instead of allowing fresh air in? That's the only one that's missing it's vacuum line, everything inside my truck is hooked up but still only has air coming out of the defroster. Any ideas?
Man i’m so confused i’ve looked everywhere online for hours and can’t find what i need, and i think i ordered the wrong parts after seeing this video. my switch for the MAX AC/VENT/FLOOR broke today when i went to switch it to ac, and it’s stuck on vent. all of my vents and what not worked perfectly before the switch broke. All i need to do is replace the switch, however it looks from the backside there’s two different switches on the right side.... so which one the hell do i need? is the switch even replaceable or do i have to get a whole unit with everything together? HELP! lol. if it’s the switch on the bottom with vacuum lines attached to it then i ordered the correct one.
Anyone know here can I buy the vacuum hoses that are attached to the selector switch? I measured the outside diameter. 3.4mm. Seems to be a non-standard size.
I know this is an old video but I was having issues with my AC stuck on defrost and sure enough I had no idea it was a vacuum controlled unit. so I followed the lines found the broken culprit and the main line was disconnected. I will like subscribe and share thank you
Hey Robert, sorry to post off-topic, but do you have any information on Volvo 850 (1996 in particular) heaters being too hot? I live in a fairly warm place and have never used the heater since I bought it until recently, and it get so hot, even at fan level one, that it melts plastic. Car's temp is never goes above 182-185F, but I have no clue with what it could be. PM me if you don't want to reply here.

What could cause this? My led shows temperature, 12volts to the blower motor makes it comes on, if I supply power through the resistor, the switch controls the fan speed but if I hook it up regularly there's nothing. Is this a bad fuse problem??

8 years later and your videos are still helping people thanks man!

Geat info !! can you explain how to change out a blend door in that same style truck .mine has the lever broke off the top of the blend door

I really have no idea unless you have an electronic controller that has gone bad.
I'll bet when they replaced the vacuum motor they plugged the lines in
backward.
