And I grew up watching McGuirk and Watts and Mid South/UWF. It was the attitude Era before there was an attitude Era. Ain't been as great wrestling since.
I always wondered how it was that they lost Springfield, Missouri under Leroy McGuirk? That town was a mainstay of Tri-State for many years. Once Bill Watts took over for good, he never tried to get SW Missouri back, other than the TV in Joplin in 1982
Conrad and Jim Ross are doing a beautiful 😍❤️ beautiful job helping wrestling receive it's proper due. Jim is so informative, so knowledgeable. God Bless America 🙏, God Bless good ole j.r 🙏,God bless you 🙏 and god bless all the subscribers too 🙏.
I remember those Kox/Murdoch matches;Brutal. The first Extravaganza in the Dome they're was a match for the Brass Knuckles championship between the two 1976 before Mid South actually.
Hey Conrad and JR, what is your opinion/feelings about OU joining the SEC?I'd like to know Mr Watts opinion as well. Also as far as the Extravaganza 78.The Ernie Ladd/Ray Candy headliner was set up with a television incident with Ray Candy coming into the studio after being attacked by someone with a tire iron outside of his apartment. Candy came in saying(with his suitcase in hand)he couldn't disappoint the kids😆.Supposedly Ernie Ladd had attacked him.My brother and I bought a ticket to the 2nd Extravaganza.I was also at the first Extravaganza at ten years old.My younger brother still hasn't forgiven me ,my mother wouldn't let him go he was only seven at the time,Great memories. We lived in a housing development between the Municipal Auditorium and the Dome.
J.R. is the salt 🧂 of the earth 🌍 and a good man, i love that part 〽️ when he was in the shower with the 600 pounds twins and the twins ♊ said "Jim,will you wash my back 🔙?"
a Monopoly. you couldn't be called a monopoly if guys are booked from outside the system is what i think JR was getting at when discussing part of the reason Watts stayed out of the NWA. It could work both ways, Watts didn't have a monopoly in the midsouth territory because he allowed the NWA champ to work it and the NWA didn't have a monopoly on the territories if promotions not in the NWA could use NWA talent. i think that is what JR was getting at.
I always run into political issues at work and there seems to be no overcoming them. Even when you do overcome them and you think you've got somewhere, then you realize you're still playing the same game just with new people who are better at.
I watched what may be the only full-length shoot interview Bill Watts ever gave. It has got to be right around 1996-1998 but he talks very openly.... and there's no one he puts over more than Jim Ross. To be honest he comes across as a smart but stern business man who just expected for the people who he employed, do to what he asked them to. With that said, he's was definitely an asshole and a bully even though it's clear he's softened up a ton as an older man. He was a guy where you were going to have a much easier time doing what he asked and working your ass off than trying to get buck him or the system. If you're gonna buck someone, best that it isn't Cowboy Bill Watts.
There is so much to cover about Mid-South when Jim was there I hope there are many more shows to come on it.👍
I need a table for 3 format style podcast with JR, Corney and DiBiase talking Mid-South Wrestling. The education those gentlemen can deliver
I’d like to see something similar but replace DiBiase with Bruce Prichard and the subject can pretty much be anything wrestling related.
No, Dibiase! Pritchard will over exaggerate and Dibiase got into the ring and was with the crew more and will know more stories
Don’t forget Jake
Love hearing Mid-South stories
Really appreciate listening to JR and Conrad each week. You guys never disappoint. Keep that positive energy going JR. You got this.
I would love to hear more episodes about Mid South and have watch alongs of Individual mid South episodes.
