This video was EXTREMELY informative and helpful. Replaced the ignition coil and spark plug in cylinder 4 for under $50. Took 30 min. Thank you
Tim @ Astral Auto Repair,
The P0304 Cylinder misfire video was VERY helpful. Received the same code on my jeep, watched your video, purchased the parts needed, jeep repaired, no more misfires, light off! Keep up the good work! Now a suscriber. (:
Thanks Michelle, it's great to hear that our video helped you out. Good Job!!
Dude! As always, your videos are so helpful in troubleshooting and repairing a car. Your local customers are lucky to have such a good mechanic available. (I'm the same guy who liked your Jeep 3.7 alternator replacement)
I do have a question, what are the pliers you have to help with removing the electrical connectors? I got to get a set.
Thanks Peter, great to see you around again. Those are actually hose pliers...lol
I just found your video...a little too late. I dropped my 06 Jeep Liberty at the local Jeep dealer last week to have them check out my #5 cylinder misfire. They called me later that same day and said the PCM was bad and I need a new one @$600 and $200 to $300 for labor. It's a special order and hasn't come in yet. I wish I would've looked online for videos and found yours sooner. Woulda save me hundreds of dollars. I'm so sad... Maybe the coil was bad and NOT the PCM. Maybe they just wanted to charge me $$$$$ for my ignorance. I'll know better next time!! Thanks for this very informative video!!!!
Wow Andie, THAT SUCKS!!! Well they have that old saying, "You live and learn".
Young fella has p0303 code. Gonna use your method on his 2002 tomorrow. Thank you for the info. Very much appreciated
No problem, and let us know how it turns out!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Spark plugs wore right out. Bosch platinums. Tips wore right out into insulator. Pretty good spark plug to have kept running. Put in 6 NGK platinums. Runs a lot better the young fella says. Code gone. Hesitation gone. Has P0171 code left. That one is gonna be a son of a gun.....However runs really good with this code. check hoses etc... thanks for the help
@@thewilster1000 I guess Bosch is not so bad, LOL! THANKS for the update!
This helped me 100% Thank you and you did a very nice job of explaining everything!
Thank you Mike!
Your video fixed my Jeep Liberty 3.7!
Thank you for a $25 fix!
That's great, glad we were able to help you out.
DUDE.!!! You ROCK..loved the video.. fixed in 15min flat..thanks and keep yer vids comin"..!!!!!!!!
COOL, and THANKS!!!
Thanks -- besides learning useful info -- you cheered me up with your positive attitude!!!
Thanks arechj, really appreciate that great comment
Thanks guys.Just bought a 2004 liberty with same code.l will try your fix first. Thanks for posting.☺
Thanks, and let us know how it goes.
Thanks for your video. I had a misfire in Cylinder 5 on my 2004 Liberty. Replaced the plug and coil and I can feel the diff. Hopefully that solved the issue. Thanks my friend.
No problem Bruce, and THANKS!!
Hey man, Thanks for posting this video. I really needed some help on it.
Glad we could help
Hi I'm looking at an 04 liberty with this code. The guy said he replaced all the injectors, plugs, and coils and fuel rail. But it still misses bad. When you get over 2000 rps the vehicle bucks and sputters really bad then when you get below 2000 rpm it stops. Any ideas. Did he just not do a thorough job. The car has 150,000 miles and only wants 1000 bucks for it. What's your opinion. Your response will be greatly appreciated I need a vehicle for work quick and cheap lol. Thanks so much for doing what you do man.
Good stuff. Thanks for the tips!
Any time!
I have a 2004, and changed the coli, and fuel injector for cylinder 4, did a pulsation check and still gettiing an open circuit code, was told it could be the pcm.
Thanks Tim, , love the attitude, very informative.
Appreciate that Jim!!
Awesome, thank you thank you
Thank you so much for this video we are going to try it!
Great, you'll do great, and thanks for that comment!
I appreciate you. This helped me a lot!
Glad it helped!
I had the same problem with my 2005 Liberty with code P304. Changing the spark plug fixed it.
thanks for your help
You are welcome
I have a misfire in cylinder 4 already did the coil test and both are good, replace the injector, checked compression and was good, replaced spark plugs, checked electrical pulsations and are good and still have a misfire. What do you think it may be ?
Go back on all the test because there is something missed. Not only do you have to check or replace the injector, but testing for injector pulse as well. Also check compression compared to ALL other cylinders.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos I did as I mentioned I checked pulse on injector and compression too everything was ok I have checked with 3 different mechanics and ran thru all the testing. I think it may be a loose wire or something like that
@@tonynakazono That is very possible.
@@tonynakazono same thing with my daughter car. Two mechanics, two full tune up six months apart she is literally crying now. She just can't afford another mechanic so we here at TH-cam University to see what it could possibly be.
good video . can I get the same code for misfiring if it was a fuel injector instead of a coil?
There are different codes if a misfire is caused by an injector, but then again, anything is possible.
How much it should be the compression test for each celendar for the good engine ?
They don't give specs on these engines, which is dumb. They just say all cylinders should be around the same. But we figure every engine should be over 125.
18:30 -- What's that little hose for, exactly? I worked on someone's 2004 Liberty 3.7L recently and in addition to lacking that small hose, the air intake on the passenger side just has the big tube going directly to throttle body, without that large airbox I see in the middle of the engine in the video. In some howtos I've seen other people missing that as well, so just a difference between model years?
That's a breather hose, there's one on each side of the engine. Not sure about the 2004, wouldn't think there would be that much difference.
Hey man I got a question about your experience with the misfire, was your vehicle jerking/limping when you gave it too much gas? And was your issue constant or did the misfire occur almost at random?
It was more pronounced when giving gas, and it was constant.
This is a really helpful video. If I don’t have the diagnosis remote thing, what can I do? I was told to drive 150 miles but i was wondering if there was a way around that. Thank you.
Sometimes you can go to Autozone and they will clear it for you
What if the you change the coil and the plugs and get the issue? What else can you check
There are a few things you can then check:
1. Check to see if the fuel injector is working
2. Make sure that cylinder has compression (150 - 200)
3. Make sure the signal is going to the coil and injector.
Hope this helps!
You DON'T need a scanner. Just turn the key quickly 3 times (stopping just short of starting the engine), and leave it sitting just shy of 'on' on the third turn..and it will command the computer to go through all the sensors. Any codes (soft or hard) will be shown on the dash. Funny that Jeep's 'thick' owners manual fails to tell you this. I learned this trick on the jeep online owners forum. Today, I got a P0305 and P0306....libertys seem to have poor plug/coil assemblies.:(
That's OLD, and I mean at least 20 years, trick, but it never gets old when we hear someone who just learned it. Shows you don't give up on fixing your car, GREAT JOB!
What model is your scanner? Does it read abs and speed sensor?
It's the CP9690, and it does read some abs
I think my 2004 may be the injector. I swapped coils and spark plugs and it stayed in the same place unless its electrical at the injector or spark plug.
You are definitely diagnosing it correctly!! you are taking one thing at a time where A LOT of people don't do!!
I have an 04 and I replaced all injectors and number 4 is still misfire. Im getting no spark from my spark plug but the spark plug is brand new. Maybe I change out the number 4 ignition coil and see what that does
I just noticed on this video that the Actron showed replace valve spring as one of the main repairs for misfire and on the Jeep motor removel you are working on now most of the noise to me sounded like it came from the top not the bottom so maybe you just have a bad valve spring on that car you said it sounded like the Piston was hitting a valve.
Hey Jeff, I can't remember was it PART 1 or 2, but we did start it up and go to the bottom of the vehicle where the sound was more pronounced. I do know what you mean because I also hear that popping noise from the top as well. I'm going to say that once we start breaking this engine down, we are going to find multiple issues.
I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty 3.7 losing power up hill, flashing check engine light when going 30-35 up days cyl 4 and P0058
I just love your videos... very helpful. Hey, why do you "verify" behind a diagnostic code that tells the problem? I'm new at all this, so bear with my ignorance. Just wondering. And would a code show up for a bad spark plug specifically?
Thanks Verna, When a code says, for this example, P0304, it could be a few things that would cause it, bad plug, wire, coil, ignition wire, etc. You have to find out which one of those it is. The code is only a guide for you on which way to look.
i have an 07 jeep liberty and for almost a year couldnt figure out what was causin this code, conclusion is carbon deposits built up since i started cleanings code rarely pops up
What is that process?
I really wish that they didn't put that overflow tank there. It would make plug and coil changes 10 times easier.
I KNOW, and Ford did something VERY similar on their Expeditions and Navigators!
Did they call you back to address the "chirping" ?
;-)
I believe they did because not too long after, we did a video on the water pump.
Professional job, no bull!
Thank you Len!
I did this mine keeps misfiring an my coils are new
Check your fuel injectors
Can I get a reply to this comment I’ll make a small donation. 0p305 misfire cylinder 4 how much it’s gonna cost me on parts alone ?
You don't have to worry about making a donation, we reply to all comments. If it's a P0305 it can't be cylinder 4. Do you know what you need to repair the misfire?
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos I’m looking into it now as we speak I just always do as much research as possible any time fixing my cars
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos and I apreciate that.
Ok well I have a multiple miss fire! Replaced plugs coils air filter pcv valve cleaned throttlebody put fuel injection cleaner in the tank and still have it now what?
I can dig it👈🏽😅🇺🇲🦅💪🏽
Customer didn't go for them other 4 coil$$$$ eh? Might as well, a 2003 y'know?
Between the jeep coils and the VW coils, man!
That's what you get these days now. Almost hard to avoid unless you wanna stick with a good ol' hoopty and "some" of that old stuff (parts-wise) is starting to get scarce too. Just a matter of time. You know what I'm talkin' about.....remember, "The Intrepid Chronicles"? Lol.....
