I made this video so that people who haven't played Daniel Mullins The Hex can watch it, but if you have played it recently enough that you don't want a recap, you can skip to 23:00 for the secret ending and 25:28 for the explanation of everything
I think the real messed up part is Weasel Kid does it to get revenge for Mr Shewrd but he just died of old age. I really like the whole game is just Reggie framing things so you will feel like you must murder Lionel and frankly if Lionel knew what Irving did.. he may he a lazy reusing hack of a man but he would of denied the deal.
Love the video, though I think there might be a slightly different explanation for Carla's creation of Sado Sado was Carla's attempt at pranking/sabotaging Lionel (who she hated), with this chaotic persona given life thanks to the corruption of the OLD_DATA on the developers' computer systems. (The rubber duck I think is just a programming in-joke to indicate she's a programmer more than her being cutesy)
Amazing video!! There's so much more going on here than I thought, and I feel like this is the game where Dan really started putting things into place. I'm thinking/hoping that his next game are when things really kick off.
I do like the video a lot and it's very informative, I'm just not sure if the detective thing landed for me. Was a little distracting at times. But I still like the format of your video essays and I can see the love you pour into them. This could also just be 100% my taste so take my criticism with a grain of salt.
Good video, but, unfortunately, you didn't touch some of the stuff this game also has: 1. You can collect cards in the last "game" and this cat prophet girl will tell you some facts about the card you select; 2. There is a portal to a golden statue of a "?" guy in the basement of the building near the inn; 3. You can collect coins throughout the game which can unlock the room behind the vending machine. And you can probably translate binary codes and the stuff Reginald says at the end, but I'm not sure.
@@redrasegarden yes, Lionel is related to that soviet dude who obtained code. It's implied that The Hex is small piece of the code that somehow got to Lionel's old fat grey PC
Amazing video, you've really gone in-depth with all of the secrets. I've managed (thanks to guides) get some of this stuff, but Beneath The Surface went totally unnoticed by me, and I couldn't piece everything together as well as you did. Thank you! You've answered a lot of burning questions I've had about this story.
This video explains the games story without touching on the gameplay which is really nice if someone would want to play it thenselves which is nice its also a nice additon to watch afterwards too. definitely better to watch or play before either way though which is the nature of a full story overview, good video.
@@Maka_J Possibly due to the Gameworks being used for inscryption, its possible that they were built in NPCs. (Also some other information: P03 was out of Inscryption for the upload, and instead in Lukes pc)
Carla did not create Sado. She created Chandrelle, which you can read about if you wait in the beat-up segment for the clouds to clear up and reveal the article. Lionel was upset about Chandrelle being so popular. Why would he be upset if it were one of his characters? No, Lionel lied in his memoirs, about who created which characters. Carla made Chandrelle, and Lionel was so annoyed about the requests for 'more female characters' that he must've gone all passive-aggressive and created one, but made it a creepy spider-themed clown. Sado.
Hey, thank you so much for your videos. Not a lot of people cover The Hex, or how the connected universe plays out. I like your roleplay as an actual investigator as well, Daniel Mullins' games all have that kinda vibe.
I was finding the story of Inscyrption to be surprising and meta, but you mean tot ell me there is a larger lore universe to it? Goodness me, I must admit I'm impressed.
I never played hex, but I have played insryption. At 18:57, is that the same side character in inscryption that builds the bridge in act 2, or do they just look similar? Does that mean she's potentially significant, or just a subtle reference with no purpose other then a nod to Hex?
Does that makes Sado more powerful than Satan himself, if he had to imprison her? I also wonder about other NPC'S that where used during the development of other games since we can see other characters appear in different games like Rebecha was in both The Hex and Inscryption.

I just completed it and it's super nice u deserve 100k
Watcing this in 2023 to understand the other daniel mullens games having only played Inscryption. The sheer mention of Gamefuna blew my mind
You should give it a go! A regular playthrough of the hex only took me like 5 hours, and I could not recommend it enough!

I still feel bad for Rust
SAME
Poor guy
Never had a chance, guy didnt even know he was in a game.
Same
Rust and Reginald are some pretty tragic characters

OLD_DATA you say?
Amazing video! Literally every question I had remaining about Inscryption was answered in this vid. 10/10 video dude

This feels like a Murder on the Orient Express homage

To be fair, you (??? guy) also play a detective-like figure.

Wait so Sado manifested herself to kill the guy from Inscryption?
exactly. you can even see her falling in The Hex portal in the finale scene(she's in a spider form like after her bossfight)
Or possessed someone.
Hay wait did that code get into these games

Never played this game but it looks pretty cool. I like how there are a bunch of different game types for each flashback.
Dude, my fucking mind went neuron activation when I saw the bridge NPC at 8:08. I'm way into inscryption.
Thanks again to Daniel for making such good games!
I love your videos since gnosia explanation.
I also like Daniel Millins games as well.
The meta game he presents to us is really creative.

Yo its the bridge builder, so does that mean some of the hex's game data was salvaged and slapped into inscription
Some of the npc’s were reused for sure!

The art style of this game reminds me of a gritty reboot of scribblenauts
Damn didn't realize how much rust was screwed over till now
Great summary! Watched this after beating Inscryption.
You deserve so much more attention, this video is great and so are your other Daniel Mullins ARG related videos
Glad you like them!
Great video! You even used the incredible LA Noire soundtrack.
Why the fuck did I decide to watch this at night? Creepiest shit I've ever seen. Great video dude, thanks!
Viscous Galaxy has criminally underrated music
i love how many times he messes up cooking granny’s name

yep same character. it's likely just gamefuna being lazy and not wanting to make more npcs.
Rebecha shows up in multiple games throughout The Hex, and also appears in Inscryption
Even tho I didn't complete it it looks nice
2:05 my personal headcanon is that this prophet served as inspiration for the woodcarver
Please turn on subtitles for this video
Congratulations on the work 👌

AMAZING VIDEO!!! How does this only have like 100 likes??
What happens if you are satisfied with the first ending?
I'm pretty sure the game just closes after a bit of dialogue from Reginald.
Don't you mean, Hexplained?

I can wait for the deep below lore, gonna be a good one Im sure
do love your stile and even tho i knew the story already this was a fun video to watch!
Thank you very much for this video

26:03 what game is this beginning part from?
How are all those games connected?
How does the cooking game fit into Lionel’s story?
splendid
