This is why doppler couldn't detect the presence of sharknados. It can detect that there are sharks in the cloud rotation, but it can't see if the sharks have come down to start attacking homes.
It does sometimes pick up aircraft but there are a few things that reduce the chances of this. First, Doppler radar measures the radial velocity of the targets it sees. Radial velocity is the vector component of velocity towards or away from the radar station. Most of the time, aircraft would be flying much faster than wind could be blowing so they can filter out echoes which show a velocity of more than, say, 150 miles per hour. Second, the RF emitted by the radar is polarized and the polarization of the echoes depends on the type of target. This can also be used to filter out aircraft on some versions of weather radar. I haven't actually worked on the WSR-88 so I am not sure what techniques they use but the ones I describe here are possible ways you can discriminate. I have seen weather radar data which shows echoes from cars on a highway which is on a rather high hill close to the radar station, so it certainly isn't perfect.
It's made of a material which passes most of the RF energy through. I think the purpose is to make the antenna more resistant to damage from weather - the antenna doesn't have to be waterproof and it is protected from hail. Also, the wind drag on a sphere is much less than it would be on the parabolic dish antenna. Gusts of wind could possibly affect the steadiness of the antenna positioning which would affect the radar measurements.
I like it! Thanks for the "production". I'm guessing that ground fog is outside the view of radar as well. I am curious, however, about larger dust clouds such as haboobs. Thanks!
Why am I able to hear it in my home? 4 yrs and I am getting sick from the vibration hum. I can pick it up on an old guitar tuner and it is worse on days radar is high on nexrad. Thnx
I have 2 questions, do you work at the National Weather Service (random, I know) 2: What if a tornado is like 1 mile from the radar, would it see the tornado then?
Answer #1: No. Answer #2: No. Radar looks in the clouds and can only see rotation within a storm. A tornado is at the surface, and radars do not see anything at the surface.
Dude tornadoes are pretty tall. If radar had crazy resolution you’d totally see the tornado. I believe you can see them on dow data cause they’re real close and get a nice crispy view.
It’s not showing me parts of the huricane. Only the front face and then skips about 50miles and gets the back wall. I want to see the rotation of the eye and wind speeds.

@PlasmaStorm73 [KY4IF] heres a real tornado warning ...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1000 PM CDT FOR EASTERN PONTOTOC AND LEE COUNTIES... At 934 PM CDT, a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located over Troy, or near Trace State Park, moving northeast at 40 mph. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW! HAZARD...Damaging tornado. SOURCE...Radar confirmed tornado. IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles is likely and complete destruction is possible. Locations impacted include... Tupelo, Pontotoc, Verona, Trace State Park, Tombigbee State Park, Saltillo, Plantersville, Troy, Furrs, Sherman, Algoma, Endville, Chiwapa, Flowerdale, Rough Edge, Wallfield, Nixon, Beech Springs, Skyline and Belden. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... To repeat, a large, extremely dangerous and potentially deadly tornado is on the ground. To protect your life, TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a storm shelter or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Tornadoes are extremely difficult to see and confirm at night. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. TAKE COVER NOW!
Guess what, we came up with next gen live, it can see everything, clouds, light precipitation and extremely light snow, can show storm from ground up in 3d mode to see hail, etc, sorry but your video needs to be updated lmao
Its not possible for a video to be edited once it's on TH-cam and no way will Doppler radar see all things. The united states is dumber than the UK is.
And that is because as this Video mentions the beams from the Radar are way above the surface and since Tornadoes extend to the ground that explains why the Radar cannot see Tornadoes
@@Chicken_Wing91you prune Remember that this Video clearly states that Doppler Radar ignores things that aren't precipitation and Dew IS NOT PRECIPITATION ALSO,this Video mentions the radar beams are way above the surface thus they would never detect dew as dew only occurs on the grass
