Did not explain much about how it works.
    Y'all just talked about tornados.

@Matthew Chou Why do you all like to put ”Edit:” in your comments when you update them? Don’t you all know that its pointless since TH-cam automatically indicates that you modified you comment by putting (Edited) up next to your username when you modify your comment?

Like everybody else is saying here, this video does not describe how radar works. Instead this video talks mostly about radar limitations, and tornado warnings.

Please change the title of your video. It does not explain how doppler radar works. They mainly talk about tornados and tornado warnings.

Coalition Coefficient can help confirm if a Tornado is on the ground and how violent it is...
But yeah, it still needs spotted to be confirmed.

The velocity/wind display on the radar always confused me because I don’t see how wind can blow away from something. Wouldn’t the wind be blowing both, towards and away from the radar at the same time ? If the radar detects wind blowing in two opposing directions, they’ll both still be going towards the radar (or away for that matter). If I’m standing in the middle of a busy street, traffic will still be moving towards me regardless of their direction.of travel, so I don’t understand how the radar determines between the inbound and outbound winds when they’re both going to be blowing towards (or away from) the radar.

Like you said wind is going to be blowing at one face of the Doppler ball and away from the other. You can use pressure sensors around the ball to determine direction. Wherever has the highest pressure is inbound Location and lowest pressure is where wind is going. You draw a vector through these two points and you have direction of travel.
The only exception is if there’s a tornado or multiple. A tornado or hurricane or multiples. A vortex has low pressure one side and high pressure on the other. So it sucks air and pushes away air depending on where you are measuring relative to the vortex.

I am not sure how radar detects win direction at a distance. They could just have sensors placed at many locations or use the reflections to run an algorithm. If you don’t have precipitation idk how you use reflections. Presumably you could use pressure differentials along with momentum calculations. Idk how you detect pressure with electromagnet waves either

@Matthew Chou just read your comment very informative and answers my question about how you get that data with no reflections

Dual function is to cut rain as we all can see the pie shaped cutouts in the Ridgecrest srw88d radome no rain

Correlation coefficient, it detects the uniformity of the the reflectivity scan. Rain is uniform, and hail is slightly less uniform. Debris from a tornado will vary a lot, and it detects that. Hope this comment helps.

Sadly, TOR-Es are becoming more common
