That 3 string instrument is call a Shamisen. What she is using to play it is called a Bachi. The strings are made of silk or nylon. Depending on the use, sometimes both. The Bachi was traditionally made of tortoise shell (鼈甲, bekkō) or ivory (象牙, zōge. But not anymore. Now they are made of made of acrylic, plastic or wood. The main body is made from either, mulberry or zelkova wood, and then covered in either plastic, dog or cat skin. The strings, the most delicate and beautiful part of the shamisen is, well was made of raw silk.

I love this band. I found them right when I started getting into Japanese rock and metal. What always fascinates me is how they can have all eight musicians going at once, yet each instrument and voice is distinct and they never sound cluttered. Their live New Years concerts are called Dai Shinnenkai and my favorite is the 2018 show. A channel called "CC W" is my favorite to Wagakki Band's watch live videos on because they're always in HD and have subtitles.

I'm glad you guys enjoy their show. "Wagakki" is direct translated from the pronunciation of the band's Japanese name. "Wa": the Japanese race as a whole, " Gakki": music instruments. The band is originally founded by the main singer Suzuka Yuko, who is an accomplished musician with background of Japanese traditional music and theatrics, as well as Western music training. The two other original founding members are the Shakuhachi (flute) player and the Guzheng (the 25-string horizontal harp) player. The three-string instrument is "Shamisen", it literally means three strings. It is a difficult instrument to master because there are no frets. There are the same instrument in China, Chinese play it with finger protector/pick; Japanese play it with a plectrum.
For the next Wagakki Band song, I recommend "Senbonzakura" Live. This is a performance showcase the amazing vocal and every instrument.

Suzuka-san is married, has a baby, and is busy raising children, but each of them has their own place, and I think that's the basics.This is how legendary bands are born. Hey, I'd be happy if there was a reorganization someday.
