not really the middle child but the children of a very, very vindictive and careless man: Colonel James Ackerson. For all her faults (kidnapping children included), Dr. Halsey let her children the S2s become the demigods of the war against the Covenant. As harsh as she was, she never thought the S2s were entirely expendable. Colonel Ackerson on the other hand was motivated by spite and revenge, and unintentionally turned the S3s into *mockeries* of the S2s: numerous, expendable, hot-tempered, and unsung heroes. But with that said, S3s did far more damage in other fronts than those that mattered, and they could be just as battle-worthy as S2s, if not more because of their hatred of the Covenant. The only proof you need is Dr. Halsey writing a tribute to Noble 6 after the Fall of Reach. It wasn't just some way to commemorate Noble 6, it was a vindication of all S3s that they stood shoulder to shoulder with S2s as equals despite and in spite of all their differences.
Ghosts of Onyx is my second favorite Halo book, with Cole Protocol a smidge ahead. I loved the story of the spartan three's, their loss, their sacrifices and their determination. I would absolutely love another game like Reach, playing a surviving three, performing various operations, post-Covenant War.
This video puts into perspective just how important Dr. Halsey's tribute to Noble 6 was. It wasn't just a way to commemorate a fallen soldier but her, the mother of the SPARTAN-II program, telling everyone that Noble 6, Spartan B-312, a SPARTAN-III and a product of Col. Ackerson's spite and disregard for human life, stood as an equal to her glorified children. To quote an equally-eccentric scientist: "You did it. You crazy sonovabitch you did it"
It always baffled me how Kathryn Lasky sought to drag Halsey's character through the mud, while never addressing what Ackerson did to the SIII's AT ALL! They were sent on suicide missions and expected to die. At least Halsey tried to make the SII's as strong on the battlefield as possible.
Whether it was intentional or coincidental, I thought the use of the suicide mission by noble-6 scene at 14:15 and the spoken word "suicide" was creative.
Means it costs a hell of a lot less than the Mjolnir armor of the 2s and 4s and lacks the cool stuff like the energy shields and such. As a result, the 3s are far more vulnerable but less expensive to outfit.

Did the Forerunners ever make use of neutronium and anti matter weaponry in large quantities for their ships' weapon systems since they were hyper advance and implied had mass produced weaponry that could destroy planets easily?
In the lore it says they used advanced lightweight but extremely strong alloys (neutronium is said to be made of very dense neutrons and is therefore heavy and hard to work with which is not what the Forerunners liked) and for the most part used Hard Light (orange)/Particle beam (blue) weaponry.
I always remembered that the III's had something that the II's and IV's never had. The motivation to kill your enemy because you hated them. It's really no surprise that these kids were so easy to train.
There's a cheesy but excellent movie that came out in the nineties call _Soldier_ . It stars Kurt Russell and depicts a program very much like the Spartan program, minus the augmentations. Here me out a halo game focused on you being a spartan3 where you choose to be in Alpha or beta company and how well you do in training determines if you get sent on operation torpedo or Prometheus or you become a headhunter or join another Spartan team and it’s up to you to choose how your story ends with you surviving the war or dying in it. He stands before us all. The facts he says must not be forgotten. This is acdemiclamb171. Standing by for further transmissions. 5-5.

I often feel like 3s are forgotten about, there like the middle child of the Spartan program
not really the middle child but the children of a very, very vindictive and careless man: Colonel James Ackerson. It wasn't just some way to commemorate Noble 6, it was a vindication of all S3s that they stood shoulder to shoulder with S2s as equals despite and in spite of all their differences.
i have read, watch many stories & lore about spartan 3 and it never get old! thank you installation 00
15:04 “cheaper, but less expensive...” lmao that broke my brain 😂 great video though man!
III's were and probably always will be my favorites. They're tragic and much more humanistic imo.
RIP Noble Team
The closing word gave me chills down my spine
Spartan lll’s are my favorite generation of spartans. Also keep up the fight spartan.
Wow, this is a new record for my speed to arrive at a video.
Halo: Reach and the Spartan IIIs as a whole are by far my favorite thing about Halo
Play more Halo bro. It’s about Chief.
@@austinbillmeyer6386 insightful comment thank you very cool
Spartan II’s being your favorite is 100% valid and correct, but my personal favorite are the Spartan III’s
mjolnir clad spartan IIIs are easy my favorite and allowed me to fall in love with the mjolnir mark 5B design
I paid more attention to this than to my school work but it's worth it and very much loving this
This video puts into perspective just how important Dr.
Ghosts of Onyx was a fantastic book
You have so much information about the Spartan army it’s so great
Chief is my favorite Spartan. But the Spartan III are my favorite generation overall.
This time, I’m on time.
About time.
I love hearing more about SIII’s. Solid video
Whether it was intentional or coincidental, I thought the use of the suicide mission by noble-6 scene at 14:15 and the spoken word "suicide" was creative.
If there ever to make a halo game with a female protagonist it should be Lucy
Perfect for the silent protagonist role since she's a mute.
@@jackychang9148 exactly what I was thinking
Nah it should be naomi
Are we forgetting about Alice? 🤔🤔
The three Spartaneers
"the cheaper but less expensive SPI-armor"
Well...yeah, that is what cheaper means :P xD
I think he meant to say extensive not expensive
@@jane-the-mentalist Yeah, I know that, I just found it funny :D
Means it costs a hell of a lot less than the Mjolnir armor of the 2s and 4s and lacks the cool stuff like the energy shields and such. As a result, the 3s are far more vulnerable but less expensive to outfit.
@@WarGrowlmon18 I am well aware of that. I didn't say anything contradicting that. I merely made a comment about the double-statement made, which didn't really work linguistically as the "but" indicates some sort of contradiction.
S-IIIs are the best. Kurt said so himself.
20:04 I had thought that the Spartans of Gamma were “swept under the rug” so to speak by ONI due to the illegal augmentations that Kurt had added to their augmentation suite which caused their mental state to deteriorate if they didn’t take certain medication on a regular basis?
Yeah, the smoothers I think they called em. Only a few members of Gamma survived and I think they actually work as a fire team for ONI with that lady from the Retribution book
Anyone else watching the sub count waiting for it to hit 100k?
This channel is slept on fr
Thanks for posting this video on S-IIIs. The fanfiction story that I’m working on is based on Noble 6 being spared/captured by an eccentric/borderline heretic shipmaster and helps the shipmaster fight through the Great Schism, eventually becoming an important points of contact between the UNSC/ONI and the Swords of Sanghilos.
Link please. Assuming it's well written, I want to read it.
@@phoenixinvictus9880 unfortunately I’m still working on the first chapter, but it shouldn’t be too long.
TH-cam notification worked this time
15:04
It may be cheaper, but it's also less expensive. Real trade-off there.
I grew up playing as and along side the IIIs then the IIs and I could remember all of the times I played co op missions, forge, and custom games with some of my closest friends and family and damn it did felt like we were a family
“Rather than the cheaper but less expensive SPI armor” Wowsers! Cheaper AND less expensive?
Yeah....my bad.
Aggressive because of Kurt 051’s choice to use trauma bonding and a dangerous cocktail of drugs to keep them performing.
15:00 "...rather than the cheaper but less expensive SPI armor" whoa, something cheaper _but_ less expensive? That's nuts. :P
Yes!!! Was waiting for this since the poll
Spartan-IIIs are the most tragic.
Ghosts of Onyx was one of the last Halo books i read and honestly my favorite. Anyone have any recommendations for additional books to read?
The Kilo-5 Trilogy.
I’d suggest the Master Chief story books. They’re pretty good.
Check out Halo Evolutions.
@@CyberSonic-V3.0 they're*
Now as wrong as it sounds, child soldiers do make the best super soldiers, there are certain things you can drill into them that you can’t drill into an adult, generations II and III Spartans are definitely better than the IV’s. A lot more loyal, deadlier and physically superior
As Halsey once stated, "Children's minds are more easily accepting of indoctrination; their bodies more adaptable to augmentation."
@@jacobrobinson787 I forgot the exact line but thank you, it’s true though and it does have its benefits but the ethics of using children are wrong but if it’s for humanities survival in a hostile galaxy then it’s preferable to extinction
Loved coming back to this!! I love your vids, it’s given me so much depth and immersion to the Halo Universe. I’m with the IIIs all the way since Reach!! GO UNDERDOGS!!! 💪🏻👑
I wonder how the S-III’s felt at being “expendable heroes”?
"Do I still get to kill Covies?"
-Polled Spartan III.
14:00
"Cheaper but less expensive." I mean, you are not wrong...
My respects to the SIII's; the unsung heroes of the Human/Covanent war
A cool future story for Halo would be a new Spartan generation that Master Chief trains and mentors from birth. Chief’s main role for 18 or so years would be mentoring these new Warriors
SII’s and III’s are way more interesting than Spartan IV’s could ever be
24:42 The Halo: Infinite multiplayer trailer has brought me back to Jun's line in the New Alexandria cutscene and it's made me wonder (provided the shots in London were from flashbacks to the Battle of Earth instead of Cortana's incompetence and a Banished invasion) if the Spartans we saw there were from whichever team managed to escape from Reach/Epsilon Eridani with their armour being either a symbolic link between them and the new SPARTAN-IVs or just getting an unfortunate case of the Halo 4).
I feel the 3s are the most realistic for mass production
Yessssss! Finally! These videos get me through my day I swear
Spartan V7 Program: Cloned for combat, trained from birth, augmented at 12. Then Armored in Gen 4 MJOLNIR.
OH MY!
Your intro is so calming.
I like the Spartan IIIs, they were orphans given a chance for revenge against the ones who made them orphans.
You know, I'd be really down for a Medal of Honor style Halo game showing various Spartan missions throughout the insurgent and covenant war.
There was that band of brothers game from the early 2000s, similar to Valkrie games, but was more single player focused. I would love a Halo game like that
I'm a simple Dan. Installation 00 posts a video, I watch and hit like.
Awesome video, recently watched your video on whether mjolnir armour could be made irl could you do a similar video with whether Spartan augmentations are possible.
Love finding gems like this. Awesome job
You do most beautiful work with these videos
He who sheds his blood with me this day shall be my brother
Did the Forerunners ever make use of neutronium and anti matter weaponry in large quantities for their ships' weapon systems since they were hyper advance and implied had mass produced weaponry that could destroy planets easily?
In the lore it says they used advanced lightweight but extremely strong alloys (neutronium is said to be made of very dense neutrons and is therefore heavy and hard to work with which is not what the Forerunners liked) and for the most part used Hard Light (orange)/Particle beam (blue) weaponry.
@@firestorm8074
It’s also in lore that Ancient Humanity had much better ships then the Forerunners.
Trading lives for time? One Spartan literally murdered millions that seems like a pretty fair trade.
Spartan II’s- Smart and pissed off
Spartan III’s- Pissed off and smart
I always remembered that the III's had something that the II's and IV's never had.
The motivation to kill your enemy because you hated them. It's really no surprise that these kids were so easy to train.
All I'm just saying is. Put the average of the S lll's and the S IV's in SPI armor. And just see how superior the III's are.
I've been reading Onyx, Last light, Retribution and will be reading shadows of reach so this is VERYYYY welcome. They're so interesting
There's a cheesy but excellent movie that came out in the nineties call _Soldier_ . It stars Kurt Russell and depicts a program very much like the Spartan program, minus the augmentations. In this case the children were taken at birth and trained into supersoldiers. I'd recommend watching it if you haven't and you like Halo. There are a lot of similarities
Love the channel, can’t believe you haven’t covered this already 😅
Nicely Done. respect to all those Spartan Cannon F- to all the brave special important Spartan 3s
quality halo content :)
18:06 Huh I never knew that about Saber team.
haven’t clicked on a video so fast
reminder that the people behind the Spartan 3 program disliked Halsey for making fresh clones, because sending teenagers in suicidal missions is ok
Hey the usa does it. You can enlist in most branches with a ged at 17
Here me out a halo game focused on you being a spartan3 where you choose to be in Alpha or beta company and how well you do in training determines if you get sent on operation torpedo or Prometheus or you become a headhunter or join another Spartan team and it’s up to you to choose how your story ends with you surviving the war or dying in it. Pretty much it’s up to you to decide your story.
7:54. In the voice of Darth Sidius “then I will make it legal”
God I love this Channel
Next video idea for installation 00:
The operational history of the Prelate bioaugmented san'syunm.
Honestly those that lost their life in the human covenant war should be honored not just Spartans same goes for real life all soldier on the battlefield should be honored for they always gave the ultimate Sacrafice
Yeah. I think the fact goes overlooked often in Halo, as the series focus is on what are essentially superheroes. Honestly, it kinda bothers me that the rest of the UNSC kinda just exists in the writing to hype up how great the Spartans are.
it makes them why 298 died…
they are merely children almost teens, they don’t have the tactical skill even if you drilled it and trained them becuase without experience they would fall in panic and break formation.
