      would be great to finish the cursed city box by following ur raodmap. maybe u feel another cc video seems to be artistically redundant and yes we should have all the tools by hand right now... but marco, pleeeeeeeaaaaaassseeeeeeeeeeee finish the box :D my painting improved so much over the past years by following your advices and addin what works for me. but the real mastership of creating all this wonderfull miniatures just using artworks and my knowledge will be a riddle wrapped up in an enigma for a very lomg time. especcially since my kids reduce my hobby time to the late hours of a day

    Awesome video as always. If I could wish for one thing for you to do on the channel, I’d have it be your take on painting a 40K ork army. I just started mine, and it’s a daunting task - the amount of minis I have to pint feels a bit overwhelming, but they’re such an amazing range I can’t help myself. I’ve adapted a lot of your techniques with regards to the airbrush and oils, but I’d love to see how you’d tackla it. Maybe it’s something you could give your take on how you’d go about once the new ork codex lands?
    Keep up the amazing work Marco!

    Great video as always! I am gonna try this colored primer->zenithal->oil wash approach. Looks amazing :)
    I have had some problems with oil washes though. I have been pulling away paint, even though I didn't have any white spirits on the Q-tip. Do you have any experience of using oil washes on metal figures, that is mainly where I have been experiencing the problems.
    I use Molotov black as primer.
    Zenithal with inks (liquitex)
    Paint with acrylics (fantasy games/scalecolour)
    Last time I even put a layer of matt varnish before I put on the oil wash, but I still pulled away paint. :/
    Does anyone have any ideas what I might do wrong?
    What kind of white spirits do you use for dilution? Is it possible to use hardware store quality or do you need to go for the artshop level?

    What is that ONE4ALL paint you primed with? I'm finding it difficult to find good primer in Australia, and that is one I hadn't seen. Is it actually primer though? Stynylrez is hard to get here, and vallejo seems to have adhesion issues from my research.

    One question regarding oil paints as washes: Do you use a gloss varnish before applying the wash? or do you put it directly onto your miniature?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the effect I want to create: here I didn't use varnish to have more integration between the layers and more grittiness. In the video of the Mouth of Mork I used a varnish only on the wings to get a more precise application only inside lines and details

    • @Matti_Mattsen
      @Matti_Mattsen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarcoFrisoniNJM Nice, thanks! i was wondering how oil paints react with acrylics directly and i was afraid off rubbing off my previous paint job if i didn't have a protective layer of varnish inbetween. But i really liked the effect you achieved here, so i am trying to do the same application. Thanks for the response ❤️

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to be delicate because you introduce into the system a lot of physical stress but in general modern acrylics are pretty tough and with some practice it's easy to find the right pressure to use

    • @Matti_Mattsen
      @Matti_Mattsen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarcoFrisoniNJM yeah, i think i will work pretty quickly and not let the oil paint dry too much, so i don't need that much force to whip it away with white spirit.
      Or maybe try a satin varnish beforehand? For less capillary effect and more surface tension?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Matti_Mattsen yep and remember that even if they look dry in a few minutes they are still extremely playable, so no real strength is needed. It depends on the look you want: no/Matt varnish=more adhesion and grittiness, gloss varnish=precise clean lines with little impact on the open areas

    I started with the skeletons, went to the zombies, did the Vargskyr (my best painted model from the box so far) and will be using your information here to get the rest of the baddies done. Thanks a lot Marco! Great work.

    Another banging result... So many ideas you are giving me to try on some test models! Also, how about the next uses for oil paints you showcase on the cursed city heroes? Because we need more cursed city! :D

    The Molotow colored primers you use, are those just the marker refills?

    Excellent video as always Marco, thank you. Instead of pastel acrylics to do the highlights couldn’t we do that with oil paints as well?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah absolutely! In this case I switched to acrylics because all the details are very thin, sharp lines and to do that kind of things I'm faster with acrylics. They aren't better in any possible way, I'm simply faster because of the extra training

    wow great work :). How do you clean your brush between oil colors?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the time with a quick dry pass on a paper towel! I use white spirit only at the end of the work before putting the brush away. The trick is to use a set of brushes for every major value/tone and avoid mixing them!

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Winsor&Newton Series7 for acrylics and cheap synthetic brushes for oils (or old W&N, no more good for acrylics but still good to blend oils!)
