I just bought two new muzzle brakes with top ports for my new srs a2. Never thought about vertical barrel whip. Will have to try closing them and shooting and then opening them up to see how they effect things.
one way you can improve the consistency of your cheek weld is to place a piece of tape horizontally across your stock, so your cheek just barely touches it when you're correctly aligned with the scope. That'll help with the distance from the ocular lens, and if you attach several patches of fabric onto the stock so that when you're pressed down as hard as is comfortable for you, you can also correct for height. Correcting for lateral placement is a littler harder, because unless you only shoot your rifle from one side a single index point won't be adequate if it's placed on the comb of the stock. I find that an index point that my lip barely touches when I am correctly aligned is the best solution, though that fails if you are wearing a mask or your lips are significantly chapped or something else changes the dimensions of your face or the index mark.
