WHat's the difference between français and le français? WHen to use which? Here you didn'T use the article but in the other video 'J’ai appris le français.' was used. I'm confused.

A Congolese friend told me de and le are joined together in one word du, de and les are joined in one word des; but de remains separate before la and l'. I hope I am not asking for too much. Merci.

Your friend is correct.
For example:
Le premier jour (The first day)...
....de la semaine (of the week).
....du mois (of the month). The month = Le mois.
....de l'année (of the year).
....des vacances (of the holidays).

(I did not speak French when I stayed there.)
The 'ne' always comes straight after the subject pronoun (Je); the 'pas' comes after the AUXILIARY verb (not the Past Participle).
Je ne lui ai pas parlé.
(I did not speak to him.)
Je ne parlais pas français pendant que j'étais en France.
(I did not speak French while I was in France.)
'Parlais' does not have an auxiliary verb, so the 'pas' comes after the verb.
Je ne leur parlais pas.
(I was not talking to them.)
