    where i live out in the country a silent bike is your best bet for evading police.(noise is a police magnet) you can hear the loud bikes for miles in any direction & fairly easy to track what road your on.whether they can catch you is a different story.why give away your position to the enemy thru unneeded noise.who will most likely revoke your liscence if he does catch you.

    I just sold my '88 Katana 1100 a few months ago, and love the looks of the new ones. My preference is the black with red, and if I was a young guy I might have one, but the small fuel capacity would no doubt bug me after a while. Being 70 I find that exhaust a bit too loud, but like the system over the looks of the stock one.

    There's a couple problems with the title.
    No naked bikes are great sport bikes due to wind bashing you around past 130kph. (A sport rider is often well over this)
    The second problem re touring on this bike is the 12L fuel tank...
    The gsxs1000 has a 17L tank as most 1000s do.
    I found 200kms was really as good as I got on the open road.
    Great bike to ride with a very usable motor etc.
    I always found the throttle to be very smooth at all rpm coming on and off the throttle.
    I only mentioned that due to what was in this video.

    Definitely some audio issues here Chris! We are in a fish bowl! As far as the content; I LOVE the new Katana! Honestly it seems very similar to my Bandit 1250S (other than the exhaust servo) it has many of the same restrictions and fixes. The lighter weight and updated suspension probably give it considerable edge, it's really only slightly down on torque in comparison but then nearly 30HP ahead. As far as touring goes, it just needs a windscreen or you'll be blown around a lot. I'd really like to get my hands on one!

      They stopped making the Katana in the early 2000's. The second generation katana was actually quite a different bike than the initial Katana Gsx1100. The new katana was released in 2020 in the US, probably earlier in EU/UK. Seems like they are hit and miss with them TBH. They have a 2020, but I've never seen a 2021, 2022, or 2023 in the states. The current 2024 edition is actually the 2023 European spec and from what I gather is limited production. Brand new it retails around $14k. I remember the type Katana you had man. I'll be honest with you and in my opinion it was a soft GSXR, detuned and rounded edges. That was a pretty crappy thing for that dude to say, must be insecure 😅😅

    the baseline pull should have been done with the stock exhaust in my opinion for those people who would get an aftermarket exhaust to improve the bike. Like this, it is for the people who get the exhaust for the sound no matter what the improvement to stock would be, mainly just to have the bike running properly with the new blink. I never see a dyno of the stock exhaust as baseline pull, mostly explained with time constrains. Is it possible that the gains would not be that dramatic?

    Hi Chris, that Katana looks pretty good. I had one of the first 1100cc Katan's when they first came out. Dragged it stock standard and did a 9:94.
    I smashed my legs up in a big off and now ride a Boulevard as my legs don't bend enough to get on sports bikes. But do you have a flash card I can buy for the Boulevard as the air filter and exhaust has been changed. It's doing the full on full off stuff. I saw you were doing a Boulevard awhile ago and solved that problem.
    Please can you send me how to get and pay for the flash card or whatever it's called. Thank you Chris.

      There is no way a stock 1100 Katana from the early 1980’s would ever do a sub 10 second pass standard, not even with Chris Moore riding it. They are a cool old school bike though, and worth a lot now.

    Comment on video/audio quality:
    There is some room reflection in the audio, it's not a huge deal but maybe a lav mic might isolate your voice a bit better and get less of that echo off the walls, just had a little google and rode make a "RODE wireless go 2", so you could wear a lav mic that is connected to the gopro wirelessly and doing it like that would be easier than having to sync audio from a separate device for every video, should come out of the camera just the same, video with audio.

    • @johncasteel1780
      @johncasteel1780 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have an early Gen 3. Yes, it is a great sports-tourer. Alas, it just doesn't have the same potential for speed and power. The mildly tuned engine (relativity low compression pistons and mild cams) is designed to run on 87 octane fuel. It will also run quite happily on the 85 octane gas you find quite often when you are off the beaten path Out West (like Colorado and Wyoming).
      The engine is not peaky at all. It makes over 80 lb-ft of torque from 3500 rpm to 8000 rpm. If someone made them, you could fit higher compression pistons, hotter cams, and a better flowing exhaust; but the big limitation to getting more power out of the engine is, I think, the airbox. The airbox shares the under-seat space with the ABS. There is just not a lot of room under there.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do. MT about 30-32 mpg, this about 41 mpg or better. Similar power.
      Same story with a V4 engine or a inline-4-crossplane. There's something about the uneven firing interval 4-bangers that suck gas. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact the intake pulse waves pounding back and forth in the airbox on the uneven firing engines are making intake air flow much less efficient for the same horsepower output. But that's a theory based on the medium grade knowledge I have of engines. I know the whole point of uneven firing intervals is to change the traction dynamic at the wheel (MotoGP). The difference between conventional even firing and these crossplane (inline or V, doesn't matter) engines is the torque composite output between combustion and inertia intervals of the crankshaft.

    I've liked the look since they released it.
    I quickly went looking for specifications and my momentum hit a brick wall when I read "3.2 gallons" under fuel capacity. I hated the 3.7 gallon on Yamaha's MT line, and this is WORSE.
    "THE BEST Sport Touring Bike" Not unless you pull a fuel cart behind you.
    I guess Suzuki felt the sting with angry customers and put a 5-gallon tank on the updated GSX-S1000.

      Yeah the moment I saw how small the fuel tank was much like the FTR1200 I was suddenly like "Nope" lol. All the good riding for me requires a little bit of a trip and range anxiety sucks.

    This is the first I've seen of the new gen Katanas. It's definitely a massive improvement over the old ones...unlike the audio quality of your new camera. Video quality looks fine except maybe when you showed they dyno tv, it seemed to struggle more with the lcd tv. But maybe I only noticed it more because you mentioned the new camera so I was looking for stuff like that, but audio was definitely not as good.

      @@TeamMooreMafia There seems to be a video quality downgrade as well, something in the settings as this video looked grainy in comparison to your previous GoPro setup.

    • @earlgunman6325

      @@TeamMooreMafia Yeah. It's definitely got to be an issue in the settings because I doubt GoPro would downgrade the quality of the new models.

    Shame it has that small gas tank with a ~120 mile range. I wanted this badly but went with a Z900 instead due to the tank issue. Sucks as I'm a Suzuki fanboy and wanted that extra power as well.

    Just finished the video. Update… I know you were rushed for time, but how could you not show us the airbox after you took out that plate? Also, was it absolutely mandatory to pull the radiator out of the way to get the Brocks exhaust system on? And I don't believe you really showed us the final numbers. I mean you did, but there was no real commenting on it. Just a thumbs up. Anyway, love the bike, video is pretty good and thanks for the content. I'd really like to know if it's mandatory to pull that radiator out of the way?

    something that I always think about when I see tunings like this. It looks amazing, free extra power seemingly out of nowhere... but is it? will the fuel consumption increase after the tune? will the engine life (or other parts) be shorter? And those restrictions, I doubt the engineers just put them there willy nilly. Was it for emission purposes ? to protect some components maybe ? I am not bashing on tuning here, just trying to understand. And this might be especially valid for suzuki since they are known for polishing to annoyance their products.

    • @IndyMotoRider
      @IndyMotoRider 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The majority of restrictions are for emissions, noise and to a lesser degree, fuel economy. You are not getting free power from nowhere. It's power that was already there, but restricted by air flow and factory ECU settings.
