    Great to see a decent mechanic using a torque wrench correctly.
    There again, why not do what my local garage did when changing my tyres.. Use impact driver to tighten security front wheels nuts!.. Wrecked them.
    Furious, and even argued it wasn't required!

    I had to jack up the suspension assembly to get the part to fit. It is the correct oem part. Is that normal?
    My droplink on my passenger side was bent and hanging down. I will change the other side this weekend.

    Million dollar question. I have e90 from 2008. How do you know if sway link bars are bad? I just took off the tire today and I grabbed the sway bar link and the ball joints move freely. Not too loose but I can move ball joint easily with my hand (it rotates easy from left to right, but not totally easy, there is grease inside). Should it give more resistance or it is normal to rotate like that with my hand?

    hi george
    thanks to your video on the recall for the cable from the battery i contacted bmw in ireland and was informed that my 08 520d was also for the recall but they did not contact me about the recall so my advice to anyone is to contact bmw in case they don't contact all owners and my local dealer checked it and it was fine and to be fair to them they did point out that one of the track rod ends was going and also a rear guide link i am amazed that your dealer did not tell you about the droplinks they should have pointed it out to you i think as it is a safety issue
    i really enjoy your videos
    regards
    james

    • @GeorgeAusters
      @GeorgeAusters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don’t contact owners mate because they have no clue who owns the car, especially when it’s 12 years old with multiple owners but once they know you’re the owner they will hassle you to get it done.
      I don’t think they spent much time checking to be honest, they only mentioned advisories on the previous MOT 👍🏻

    • @james6609
      @james6609 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeorgeAusters thats a good point as regards the previous owners so evey one should check themselves for the recall
      iwas lucky enough that they checked the track rod end as to be honest i did not notice it on the steering it was only when they pointed it out to me that i checked the wheel when i came home and indeed there was play when i rocke dthe front wheel infact he said to me that it was dangerous
      anyway keep up the great videos even though i do not do any repairs to my own car as i am not mechanically minded i really enjoy watching and learning any about future issues that may arrise on the bmw thanks

      @@robbieshaft hi there thanks for ther responce i got the recall done last week there was no issue with the cable or what ever its called that runs under the car and to be fair to the dealer they checked the track rod ends and a back guide links and the passenger trackrod was worn and the back passenger side guide link also needs replacing but the estimate for the parts was eye watering i have got them from a local bmw specialist for 1/3 of the genuine bmw parts i know the genuine ones would be better but we don't do a lot of driving so if they last a few years that would be fine only problem now is getting them put on as the guy i get the car serviced with is closed until 12 of april what bme do you drive and are you happy with bmw i am happy with mine as the timing chain was done before i bought it so hopefully fingers crossed it will keep going well thanks again for taking the time to respond to my comment to george best regards james

I took off the passenger front wheel where the noise is coming from and the caliper and pads seem very secure. I didn't think to check the links at the time. Also, what are the torque specs for the top and bottom bolts of the links? Thanks!

    Love the uploads George, just subscribed recently. Would you have an opinion on a slightly annoying issue I have with my f10? It's a constant low hum/vibration that seems to sound like it's from the front driver side. I've had the wheels balanced, tried different alloys and still there so I'm ruling out the wheels. It's not a drivetrain issue cos if I put the auto in to neutral while driving nothing changes
    It's not loud and most wouldn't notice it but I do! Worn suspension component or engine mount?

    • @GeorgeAusters
