      If the projectile was moving the speed of light and relativity is taken into account it had infinite energy and zero thickness. If this is ignored like it is in WT then the kinetic energy of the round is (1/2)mv^2 where m=mass and v=velocity so it's kinetic energy is (1/2)(.001kg)(299,792,458 m/s)^2 or 44937.8 gigajoules. This would be the same energy as a Maus traveling at ~22km/s or about 2/3 of the energy of Little Boy, if I got the math right lol.

    The speed of sound is not consistent, though I do enjoy having it on. An example would be a plane diving into the ground from a distance. The sound of the plane stops instantly but it takes time for the explosion sound to travel.

    • @TheWorldEnd2
      @TheWorldEnd2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      that's because the sound source of the engine sound is stopped. This probably stops it immediately and no engine-side consideration was given to the fact that it might have to reach further away players, so it should be continued. This is difficult, as you have to time it just right when you stop the sound, otherwise the engine would keep on playing after the explosion. It's not impossible, but it's a bit of spaghetti and takes time to get right. Evidently, Gajin devs are not really interested in detail, so this wasnt given thought

      @@skipperhun7580 it is delaying the sound based on the distance and no, dopler effect is not done like it works in real world, it is simply done by modulating. The issue with explosion sounds is that when the vehicle gets destroyed, its sound source gets destroyed too. then a new sound source is created and due to the delaying logic, that sound is now delayed. This can cutdown times you spend on the ground from 40-20 seconds to less than 4 seconds total.

    Interestingly, the A-4 Skyhawk's slats hang down from the wings in the hangar. The reason for this is because the hangar has full physics (for some reason), but this is actually historically accurate - the Skyhawk's flaps were pushed up by airflow, so while stored on carrier decks, they can also be seen hanging down in photos

      Idk if the system is exactly the same but I think it is. I'm also unsure tho if on these planes the slats hang when on the runway and retract when you go faster. It might be that with these planes the slats are only modelled when turning. While on the A-4 it's fully physics based.

    • @BillyTubememe
      @BillyTubememe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@randomtiger605 alright this doesn't make any sense
      The projectile is already at a set mass of 1 gram. When its travelling at the speed of light, you have to keep in mind that it suddenly doesn't take in any new mass or lose its own. So the mass does not suddenly become infinite.
      The game probably uses the simple 0.5×m×v^2 equation to calculate the kinetic energy. At light speed the 1 gram projectile would have the kinetic energy of 45 Terajoules.
      Of course IRL we know that this doesn't work due to Einstein's relativity theories. But the mass of the projectile does not suddenly become infinite, that's a fact. Take light for example, it travels at the speed of light, while being completely massless. It has no infinite mass, in fact it has none.

    • @MrWeebster
      @MrWeebster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BillyTubememe "The projectile is already at a set mass of 1 gram. When its travelling at the speed of light, you have to keep in mind that it suddenly doesn't take in any new mass or lose its own. So the mass does not suddenly become infinite. "-that is correct but when you are dealing with speed close or at the speed of light then relativistic mass is a real thing.
      "Take light for example, it travels at the speed of light, while being completely massless. It has no infinite mass, in fact it has none."- The fact that light travels at the speed of light (speed of causality) is due to the fact that photons have no mass. Anything with a mass can never reach that speed and due to the effects of general relativity will gain more "mass" the closer they reach that speed. Therefore, taking everything together a projectile, with a stationary mass of 1gramm, will in fact obtain infinite mass were it to reach the speed of light.

      why do things become infinte at the speed of light.
      Like lets say i hit someone with a punch at 1 meters a second and then i do one at light speed which is 299 792 458 meters a second wouldn't that punch just be 299 792 458 times harder?

    • @phoenixfire9176
      @phoenixfire9176 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jammy Gamer no, because it’s physically impossible for anything with mass to reach the speed of light

    • @Wotplaya4
      @Wotplaya4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jammygamer8961 No, check special relativity... (or general relativity if you really want to go on a trip). What comes out of it basically is: things with mass can not reach light speed. The closer you reach the speed of the light the more energy it takes to get there. It doesn't scale as you know it: at low speeds if I travel 3 m/s and throw a ball at 5 m/s then that ball will go 8 m/s relative to the ground. However if I go at like 0.999c (light speed) and throw a ball at 0.999c, the ball won't travel at 1.998c, but just something closer to 1c, but not 1c.
      This doesn't explain why anything really becomes infinite at light speed, but for that you do need to delve a little deeper in the reasoning and thought experiments behind the equations. But I can say so from a equation point of view. The gamma factor is a frequently reoccuring factor when it comes to relativistic velocties. It is 1/sqrt(1-(v/c)^2), where v is your velocity and c is the speed of light. If you'd take a velocity of one that is approaching c, the ratio v/c becomes 1. The square root of 1 - 1 = 0. And 1 divided by 0 is... well... it does not exist! We can merely only approach 0, as we approach c. Then you can see this gamma factor would go to infinity.
      You can also see when velocites are much smaller than c, the gamma factor would be roughly just equal to 1, which means all your (non relativistic) equations hold up as is. Momentum classically is mass times velocity, relativistically it's the gamma factor times mass times velocity, you can kinda qet from this how much "harder" a (near) light speed punch would be compared to a 1 m/s punch.

    WEP and overheating is modeled really cool. Most planes' WEP only boosts manifold pressure by a tiny bit above military power, but, in the advent of trying to make your plane as fast as possible, WEP also closes your radiators and oil radiators for minimum drag. *This* is the main reason WEP causes overheat, and is why taking your plane off WEP almost instantly makes it begin to cool down, because the radiators open back up.
    Using MEC you can enable WEP power with radiators open, which allows you to hold WEP for much longer and basically infinitely in good conditions (cold map, high pressure, wide open radiators, etc).
    Keep in mind planes with water injection or nitrous oxide injection systems (see the 109 K-4 or P-51H) can't use WEP forever because they'll run out of their respective "WEP fuel". They also usually produce wayy more power with WEP than otherwise. If your plane's WEP is gray, that means it cannot use WEP anymore because it's run out of WEP fuel or it's in improper conditions (i believe the He 111s for example can't WEP below a certain altitude, not sure)

  • @Wotplaya4

    One interesting thing I found with afterburning jets, while using WTRTI, is you can regulate the afterburner. Aircraft throttle % actually goes over 100%, some people might already know this from certain aircraft, which can go to 103% for instance. But every aircraft can go in the 100-110% throttle range, it depends on your aircraft it it does anything.
    For most aircraft with a limited WEP function, it doesn't matter, you go over 100% and it engages the full WEP. Most of this category fall in the limited WEP time planes, like propellor driven aircraft like the P-51H.
    Some aircraft don't have WEP but rather go over 100% in red. This more or less functions as WEP on propellor aircraft without limited WEP, you can keep it engaged but it will eventually overheat the engine quite severely, but you could engage it forever. But in this case it won't say WEP, naturally here it does matter if up until the max throttle percentage. On the G.91 for example 101% equals 110% actually, but the thrust gain is rather minimal (like couple percent thrust difference maybe given enough time)...
    However for afterburning jets... it has the sort of same mechanic as the "red" throttling over 100%, while showing "WEP" instead. You have the entire range of 100-110% throttle, at 101% the afterburner is engaged (and WEP is shown), one can not see the difference visually from that whether the engine is at what percentage above 100%. But it makes a big difference! At 110% the engine drains the most fuel and generates the most thrust, at 101% it consumes less fuel (still not efficient) but creates a lot less power (extra not efficient). No idea why gaijin did not do the same "red" 101-110% throttle.
    This I found out one day when I couldn't get to mach 1 on my F-4E with afterburner on, I used the mouse button to disengage and engage the afterburner, making me only set my throttle at 101-103% instead of the full 110%.

    interesting that fuel amount is modeled for ground vehicles. maybe they were planning on adding different fuel load outs for ground battles. and since you don’t run into problems with center of mass effecting performance like in planes the load out could be a simple slider.
    on another note i did some testing on if ammo affects weight and by extension power to weight and speed. from my testing it does not.

    momentum = mass * change in velocity = F( experienced on average ) * A Time Interval - so the force of the shell on the tank would be equal to the mass of the shell * 3e8m/s all divided by the time the shell took to travel through the barrel. That time is calculated by time = final velocity if the shell - initial velocity all over the acceleration of the shell. I am probably wrong as this is my 3rd time taking technical physics but it should be something similar to that

    Some more:
    -On some maps the snow (and I think some of the soil and sand too, though not 100% sure) doesn’t have collision modeled and is purely visual, meaning that you can shoot through it.
    -Map climate (particularly temperature) can slightly affect aircraft performance I think (not 100% sure though)
    -If you drive right up to cars (not sure if all of them do this) on Seversk-13 you can hear radio broadcasts coming from inside.
    -Several maps (like Port Novorossiysk, Stalingrad, Berlin and Advance to the Rhine iirc) are recreations of actual ww2 battlefields (late ww2 aerial photograph of the area around the Reichstag shows the large trench nearby and an aerial photograph of Stalingrad shows that the in-game map matches up with the Dzerzhinsky Tractor Factory, for example)

    1:13 The recoil generated by that round: 15 meters per second, ~ 33.6 miles per hour
    m1 * v1 = m2 * v2
    where m1 is the weight of the round, v1 is the velocity of the round
    m2 is the weight of the tank, v2 is the resulting velocity of the tank (recoil)
    m1 = 1 gram
    v1 = 299 792 458 meters per second
    m2 = 20 tons = 20 000 000 grams
    v2 = (m1 * v1) / m2 = 15 meters per second
    I'm guessing your tank went flying due to a float error since you are using massive numbers and not because of the round since as you can see, it's not actually that much.

    For the quick and easy math of using the conservation of momentum.
    p=mv
    and to conserve it
    mass and velocity of projectile = mass and velocity of vehicle
    HSTV-L mass is 18143.7 kg. (20 tons)
    XM885 mass ingame is 2.2 kg.
    299792458 m/s for speed of light.
    The game likely ignores relativistic effects, so we will too.
    (2.2 kg *299792458 m/s)/18143.7 kg
    We get that the HSTV-L was accelerated to 36,351.1 m/s or Mach 105.

    Just so you know the calculations on recoil revolve around momentum.
    Physics 101: Momentum (p) = mass( m) * velocity(v)
    M=mass of the Canon
    m=mass of a shell
    u=velocity of the Canon (recoil)
    v=velocity of the Shell (light speed)
    Initially the gun is at rest so the total momentum is zero.
    So we know by conservation of momentum Mu+mv=0. Solving for u tells that the recoil speed is -mv/M.

    There are 2 parts of recoil, primary and secondary. Primary is you are throwing an object of weight x, at speedy y, and there needs to be equal opposite reaction. Secondary is that the gasses are also escaping super fast and pushing back like a rocket for a split second. Secondary is what muzzle brakes reduce. I don't know what hte powder charge or gas velocity would be in a fake round like that but the primary recoil impulse would be roughly 67321.71 lbs.sec for a 1 gram projectile going the speed of light. according to shooterscalculator

  • @filipstevanovic6460
    @filipstevanovic6460 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Speaking of the lightspeed HSTV-L: The speed of the tank right after the shot should approximately be 1gram * Speed Of Light / Mass Of Tank which gets us 15 meters per second (54 kph) for every shot! That means that if we ignore resistances, the tank would go more than 100kph after only 2 shots! We get this by law of impulse conservation, i.e. the impulse that shoots out of the barrel also shoots the tank back, which gives us the equation: Projectile (mass * speed) = Tank (mass * speed).
