Hi Tam, such a beautiful portrait! I am looking forward to trying this myself. What brand of journal do you use pls? I am struggling to find journals with hot pressed paper. I have only cold pressed but the grain on the paper prevents me from getting a flawless finish. Thanks!
Strathmore do a good one, with fairly smooth paper, think it’s mixed media- it’s chocolate brown hardcover- very resilient to what ever you throw at it- available in UK from Jackson’s. Moleskine watercolour sketchbook is really good, but more of a tooth to the paper , widely available, a great book. Global do good little books, takes quite a bit of water etc. I’ve used all these books, but I think the Strathmore is the closest to what Tamara uses. Hope that helps, Sophie
That works very well for some and not so much for others. My face doesn’t photograph well and it worse in person. I don’t scare little kids on the street or anything, but I am not a good subject for portraiture. I’m also 72 years old! I think that covers it...

Joan, don’t think about the result before you’ve started...the Joy with painting is you can paint what you feel, maybe what you used to look like, and enjoy the process, get lost in it. Tamara is very stylised, so anything goes. I’ve used art as a way of getting through serious illness, as it’s a way of getting lost in something. You probably didn’t want all these replies, but beauty is really not about age, it’s about a deeper soul , so just draw, paint to enjoy the process, and maybe if you want something ‘beautiful ‘ just choose something that you find beautiful and that you’d enjoy painting. 72 is the new 22 darling 😂🥰
I believe that greenish stone/crystal is a malachite - stone of transformation..hmm or is it a turquoise- healing. Love your style, and art.x Hathor = mirrors Looks like you found the serene in yourself as by the potrait. Lovely! Although you do look rather serene anyway :-) x
I've been using micron pens in my mixed media and found that they reactivate with water pretty easily. Does the fine posca pen reactivate for you at all? I could use recommendations. Beautiful work! I love the use of tarot.

She mentions in her courses that the woman you paint can represent you, it doesn't have to be your face =) You can use a picture from a magazine.
