- I am playing some more of the upcoming WRC game and try my hand at building my own rally car which turns out to be a crazy rear engine thing.
Thanks to EA for getting me an preview build of the game

Being able to build your own car kind of hearkens back to the olden days of racing games where SOMETIMES you'd get that little extra mode or something that was neat and while not the main course of the game a welcome portion that doesn't detract from it. Too often now, we get BAREBONES, with stuff we expect actually missing. To have something extra seems a luxury of a bygone era of gaming to be perfectly honest.
I still remember the janky little Streets of Rage style side mode in tekken 3 being so fun.
@@Rallylabsfuck yeah. I’ll never forget “CHICKEN” when you pick up the health chicken.
yeah, I mean part of that is the fact that games are so much more expensive and time-consuming to develop these days, and there's so much analysis of all the little things they do wrong, especially on the performance side of things. so adding a whole new mode like this when there is frankly little to no incentive to do so... that takes a lot of resources that could otherwise have been used on something more essential. it shows that they seem to have the luxury to say yes to a lot of neat ideas (this, regularity rally, 4 extra non-WRC rallies, changing engines to Unreal, etc) that would not have been workable in the past. I cannot say why unfortunately.
but yeah. this mode isn't really my thing, but I'm really happy it exists :)
From what I understand, the hybrid system is pretty true-to-life, in that it's largely automatic and you have to understand the conditions under which it'll deploy in order to make the most of it.
The conditions (in-game) are pretty easy (tho actually managing it in game is a different story):
- Brake hard to recharge until you get a "boost ticket" (not an actual term, just simplifies it).
- Press throttle above a certain threshold to deploy and consume boost ticket.
- Do not let throttle go below threshold or press the brake or it'll stop boosting (and not come back until you get another boost ticket).
At the start, you can choose 3 maps:
- An aggressive one (Lots of power for a short time if your throttle goes above I think 80%) -> Pick on stages with high traction, lots of corners close to each other or if you're very confident in yourself (good drivers learn to use this in 99% of the situations).
- A balanced one (medium power for a longer time if your throttle goes above I think 70%) -> Pick on stages with low traction.
- A "safe" one (little power for a loooong time if your throttle goes above 60% or so) -> Only pick if you're new or have *very* low traction.
@@FinlayDaG33k great explanation, thanks!
@@caerphoto No problem, happy rallying \o/
Being able to build the Group B cars would be absolutely glorious.
Just make a car with a powerful engine and get the cheapest/worst option for everything else
@@B__L Tbf the cars were well-built all around. Safety was just not a priority to say the least
@@102ndsmirnov7 Well built for the 80s. But suspension, tyre, gearbox and many other techs are far more advanced now. Modern cars aren't just quicker because they have more grip.
Yes, obviously.@@B__L
The aero sculpt system from NFS pro street would do well in this
The aero calculations would kill shit pcs haha
@@lachychops2 they worked on the PS2. it was just a thing that affected the top speed and stuff. it wasn't that deep lol
didn't it get implemented in another game? oh no it was in NFS Carbon and they brought it to ProStreet I think
@@lachychops2not really. Big wang=more downforce less speed. Small wang=more speed less downforce.
Loving the 1000 yard stare of the avatar
Super cool to have rear engine as an option. Definitely using my Midlands brand if i do pick up this game. Hopefully classic car building(like groupe b era) comes in the future.
A really cool system but I hope they add more to it in the future.
There's decent potential for interesting builds for specific tracks if they're considered valid for the Leaderboards over the standard 3 cars. Obviously there's not much you can change in terms of performance as the stats are the same but just having the ability to run different engine layouts can be beneficial for certain layouts and driving styles.
Plus its just nice to change the cars visually.
Woah, I didn't expect this level of customization on the cars at all.
I’m going to watch more videos on this game before I decide to buy, but it looks good so far
Definitely looks like a seat to me from the front 🤔
Adding classic categories to the car builder as some sort of expansion or DLC would be AMAZING, especially if it was coupled with a greater variety of engine layouts and types (e.g. NA V6, supercharged inline-four, turbo inline-five, etc.).
This WRC builder, allthough not too many options for the body/exterior, is actually super exciting and cool. It's actually made me buy the new WRC game after being a Dirt player the last few years 😊 this is very cool.
The 959 was rear engine all wheel drive and originally intended for group B.
This is really special. Not expecting this level of immersion at all!
more customization than forza lol
Literally
The new Forza being massively underbaked is making me think of giving money to EA now.
We must award EA when they do something right, positive reinforcement. lol
@@Redslayer86 I'll give credit to where credit's due, CM did a wonderful job, and EA deserves the applause for not letting their bad business tactics to intervene this time.
especially because it is not wrc 2023, just wrc.
@@apophisstr6719 The bad man behind the notorious rep for EA is in Unity btw. He thought of the very pure form of microtransaction as not a tip to the devs, but a necessity to play the game. The memes aren't even ironic, it's accurate and it's horrifying that John is that terrible of a boss.
I really like that customizing dashboards
We need something like this in F1 games too
Thats dope feature
Hey mate, the team from M-Sport spent a lot of time with the Codies devs to help with setting up the Hybrid deployment system. The Hybrid system only regens at 100% braking force and then Immediately deploys the full amount once the batteries have reached 100% charge.
Building your own car is epic. Now I'm tempted
1:55 Is it the Ora Funky Cat.?
What you built looks like either a Lexus IS200 hatchback or a Seat rally car
Fairly sure the car your thinking of is the gwm ora funky cat. I mean what a name
Honestly they should add a dlc with the option to build your own engine. With different engine block, pistons camshafts etc. In general this feature opens so much options for a DLC. Different boost options super charged single turbo or twin turbo and so on. I'm really excited.
Agreed, it'll be a simplified automation engine building, I think
It’s the first game this year that I’m excited for
Hope they do something like this for my team in F1
Style 02 is the Ford Puma.
man thhis build reminnds me of a leon cobra rs with thhe 1.8t sick
This looks amazing, I am concerned if there will be micro-transaction.
The model should have been named python because of the snake logo on the front.
The car on the thumbnail looks like Ford Focus from 2009. :)
Is it possible to create a FWD drive car with a 500 HP motor?
I guess not, but it would be fun :D
Codemasters have no excuse with F1 myteam now
Can you not put liverys on them? Or just plain white cars ?
Do the different engines and exhausts all have their individual sounds?
I wish we could build older cars imo like group b
Why is your driver dressed like an amateur matador? 🐮🏎️🍹
What about liveries though?
Will you continue with this one once it is fully released?
...I mean, the 911 was/is used for rallying so...
these games need to improve their replay physics
we like to play them as much as we like to watch the replays
the replay needs more love
what makes a rally game a thrill ?
the spinning effect on wheels and dirty cloud effect as it passes full sent
what i see in the new WRC is for young kids, like the fire effect from the exhaust
from 0-10 this WRC game takes 7 in that specific section
the sound on the other hand is beautiful
Too bad there's no option to build a notchback car, it's all hatchbacks !
Are you using a controller?
He is, he said in the last vid
Love the builder feature, hate that the only part that directly affects performance is the engine placement. Modern sanctioned racing is a joke
seat height adjustment not there? was in dr2….
I saw it working in a different video. Both forward/backward as well as up/down were shown. I am not sure if there is a left/right option.
I wish the body options looked more like real cars
they do.
@@Skullbrothers that’s not how that works. They may look similar, I said I want them to look more similar
@@RidgeRunner4501?????
@@RidgeRunner4501 Then use the existing cars instead. There would’ve been no point of building.
@@kubamax9kubowski176 you’re missing my point
Can anyone tell me what wrong game this is?
Wrc*
It's literally the newest one
As cool as all of this is I still don't want to buy it because of EA reasons
Also I refuse to buy games that require an internet connection to play SINGLEPLAYER
I can't find anything on the requirement of online connection, where'd you find that?
This is a step in the right direction IMO, and in an era where racing games are desperate for something new and interesting. I'll probably end up buying this over Forza.
"Build your car" option is, probably, under my opinion, the absurdest option ever made for a racing simulator game (or simuarcade) like this "WRC". I'm searching something similar to reality, and then... they let me create my own car! My unreal, invented and never existed car! Builded with other real car pìeces, ensambling all of them just like a Frankenstein?¿? OOOOkkkk thank yooooou EEEAAAA!! XDXD Amazing.
Well, it's actually not entirely unrealistic.
Check out in Google 'proto rally cars'.
Legit stuff.
These are for example made from Ford Fiesta bodyshell with Mitsubishi Lancer drivetrain and underpinnings.
The idea behind it is to make rally cars cheaper and therefore more accessible to drivers with more limited budget, while still being highly competitive.
Get a life
Why have fun when you could choose not to have fun and be a stuck up sim nerd lol
@@ileutur6863 make your own fantasy/invented car is fun? Ok!! XDXD And the nerd it's me OK XD LOL
I could barely comprehend the first minutes of the video. "Oh what's this, cool, why not, oh other thing, why not, here, there, car is ready"... Actually care to show anything?
Reminds me of a suzuki sx4 front end
Why does this game look SO AWFULL???
@_peters6221 So you're willing to look past those headlight and taillight pixelisation, ugly shadows, worst implimentation of AA i've seen in a while and plethora of other graphical issues that make my eyes hurt? Yeah go ahead and make yourself blind playing worse version of Dirt Rally instead of admitting that this game sucks ass visualy
@@_odaxelagnia TH-cam compression aside, the game looks great.
Yes, I am willing to overlook that. The game seems fully featured, the stages themselves look nice, it's nice seeing details in the road surface. And iirc it's their first title in UE5. If it plays good and feels good, I couldn't care less if the headlights look a little pixelated, I'm paying attention to the road anyways.@@_odaxelagnia
@@_odaxelagniaWell, I'm used to playing bad graphics, but incredible driving physics.
If everything is beautifully realistic, then they're boring as heck since they spent more money on that department, leaving out the fun factor of the game.
