I remember going to the gift shop and later, after it was condemned, my brother and I snuck onto the ship and explored it. There was a night club on the upper level and day glo paintings on the walls. I never knew what happened to the ship after they moved it. Now I do though. Thnx!
Grew up in Cape May starting in 1986 spent every summer down there drank many of beers on that deck never did I know what was below great video thank you for sharing!
after you posted this as I have been going to Cape May since the early 90's........I I went to this restaurant several times so far and FORGOT about the SHIP! We are going to Cape May in a couple weeks and I will definitely share your story about this sunken ship as this is one of our favorite spots for food and the views....always windy on the deck but LOVE IT. thanks so much for the history of this...and to your friend for sharing it with you!!!
left Jerz for Colorado a few years ago. spent every summer of my childhood life in Wildwood and Cape May. thank you for all of your awesome videos and great work.
@@WildwoodVideoArchive 3 years ago we spent a last week in Cpae May before we moved out here. me and wifey shared our first kiss at the top of Cape May lighthouse, I know, total cliche, but that lighthouse means that much more to us both now. 👍 I, like you and so many others, also worked on Morey's Pier. I operated the Condor for 2 summers then managed the games and 2 photo booths for 1 summer. good times. I was there for the RC-48 too. *LOL*
Your very interesting, informative and entertaining video on the bizarre circumstances surrounding the former ferryboat has gained you an appreciative subscriber. Thank you for your excellent, well presented and narrated video.
REALLY GREAT STUFF JOE ,KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK , YOUR TRULY ARE A WILDWOOD HISTORIAN, THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO YOU PASS ALONG , WE LIVED DOWN THERE IN THE SUMMER FOR MANY YEARS ( 50 & 60,S ) , NEVER HEARD OF THIS ONE , BUT AM INTERESTED IN THE BURIED TRAIN . I MISS THE 60,S. THEY WERE WONDERFUL YEARS , I USED TO WORK AT THE HITCHING POST RESTAURANT AT 17TH & ATLANTIC I THINK , THAT WAS THE HOT SPOT TO EAT IN THE 60,S . BILL
Wow Joey! Once again a super informative (as always 😊) video! No one in our family knew any of this. All have been coming to the Wildwoods since birth( except me who married into the family 😁)Thanks again and keep us all informed on the cool stuff! as well as the serious side. We always look forward to your next video!
Wow That is amazing I never heard of this I live in Atlantic City and I am always fascinated by local history Thank you for posting I really appreciate all of the hard work that went into making the video History at its finest Have a wonderful day today ✨️
I love Wildwood and Cape May Too, I'm safe at home from week now.... I'm working but do nothing else, I will not go at Wildwood Crest , as the next 11 years . I'm sad but I'm will be there the next year.Take care of you . Alain
I remember the SS Patty K from spending childhood summers on Rio Grande Ave. There was also a large old three masted schooner in the Wildwood Yacht Basin, its shown in a picture. There is some mystique about that boat as well. That would also be a cool documentary idea. Thanks. Well done.
Hey! I’m glad you enjoyed my video. I actually have a full history article about that ship on my website. Make sure you check it out. It was a beautiful schooner and world’s fastest at one point
Thought I recognized that building. My dad docked his boat at Mill Creek Marina just across the waterway. We would spend summer vacations sleeping on the boat and then take Ocean Drive to the Wildwoods.
This is the perfect video... Some History, great photos, and brought all the way to the present. This might be your formula- Past fused with the Present
I would LOVE to know how far down the remaining “shell" of the ship is now. Edited to add: Fascinating and informative video, by the way. Thank you so much!!!
Didn't know the name of it but seen the boat long ago when it was McNeil's Marina I was childhood friends with the family and it was my friend Bob McNeil's bus stop on ol Bus 16 in the early to mid Seventies for Lower Twp Elementary.
This is so cool thanks for telling us. I might of already said this but one day u should go to duffers ice cream in wildwood and do a food review. U could also visit sea pointe village which is next to the giant building called The grand. At seapointe it is literally paradise
hey! Thanks for the suggestions. I had responded to your last post. Sadly Seapointe is private property (Owned by the Moreys) and I can't film on their property
I went to a restaurant back in the 60s in New Jersey by boat someplace. It was built over a barge had board walk to dock rite over the old barge. The. A ferry boat in jersey someplace
After watching your beach erosion video I clicked on the suggestion to watch this video and much to my surprise comes this story. Great documentary. Keep up the good work! 👍👍
Wow that is so cool and am surprised I have never heard of this (not claiming to be an expert) same for that World War 1 ammo bunker (anyone else reading this I am not confusing with Battery 223 WW2 Bunker). Always cool and keep them coming 😎
You are referring to "the Atlantic." It was the fastest Schooner ever built and was owned by some of the richest people in America at one point. It still hold the title for the fastest Atlantic Ocean Crossing. Believe you me I am not combining the two ships/stories.
Wow I've eaten at Harbor View a few times and outside on that terrace both times too, circa 2010. I was at the Crab House the night the floor cracked around 2008. It isn't the same since it re-opened IMO. Ate there every summer 1997-2008. There's another video idea.
Wildwood Video Archive no Joey I was a cell phone holdout and didn’t get one until 2012! We were seated for about 10 minutes before it happened. After the initial crack in the floor about 2-3 booths inside the main dining room to the left as you walk in, which sounded like a cooler full of ice being dumped over, a tearing/shredding sound, management decided it was ok to proceed with business as usual. Ten minutes later the crack turned into a crevasse. It happened inside and we were on the outside deck, when the crevasse formed someone ran out to the deck yelling “Run!” Someone on the deck said “Gun!”. I clearly heard run, not gun, and calmly hopped onto the dock but many people fled crazily thinking they heard gun.
Wow, we go there for the awesome burgers! Never knew this. Thanks for sharing this with us. If you're ever in wildwood after everything opens and want to see an awesome band, please check out The Locals Band! Www.facebook.com/thelocalspbnj

Very Cool. Lived in that area for many ywars and never heard of tis.

this is really intresting
Quite interesting!!
Interesting story, even though the boats been filled in, wouldn’t there still be a worry if the boat totally wastes away to collapse the bulkheads?
I was thinking the same thing.
Nice video!
Yup wildwood and the lobster house in cape may is in my sights iam from Miami fla.but nothing beats the south Jersey shore be there in a few days .
