As a veteran dp'er, I have to say it was so cute seeing you take your baby steps into this addiction. I'm very impressed with the size of the kit you started with, just as long as you don't let it overwhelm you. Congratulations and welcome to the club I think you're going to love it.

The washi tape is to cover the bit of exposed adhesive around the edge of the canvas. Prevents you from getting a bunch of lint and crud on it. Hope you enjoy the new adventure. Pretty big canvas for your first, but I say go big or go on home. Enjoy!

I used to draw, do adult coloring books, and crochet, but since I was introduced to diamond painting back in, I believe 2020, I was hooked. My first one was a horse, while my twin sister got the fox. Now, my twin sister is one of those who don't have the patience for it, so I remembered doing hers after I finished my first one. And it went on from there.
The funny thing about diamond art is that once you start, if you have the patience for doing them, you aren't going to stop; it's addicting. One of my aunt's sons is doing one, to my knowledge, and he said it's addicting.
I did give a few finished diamond art paintings away, with one of them being a wine diamond art painting for my aunt's birthday as a gift. And my mom requested me to do a baby fox for my aunt's daughter gender reveal party or the baby shower, I forgot which one, and her theme is baby woodlands creatures. So I can't wait to do that one and see the look on her and her husband's faces when they get it.

I love knitting and crocheting too.
I am also new to diamonds and art painting. I just finished my first one last week. It was a little thing from Amazon, but it was enough to make me fall in love with the craft. Now I have the next one started, 3 more kits that arrived yesterday, and 2 more I want to order tomorrow.💎♥️
For me, I definitely find it every bit as relaxing as knitting and crocheting. And it gives me that same feeling of satisfaction from watching something beautiful develop more and more under my hands ..
But for me it takes more focus. Maybe it's because I'm new to it, but I can't watch TV at the same time. It takes my focus to make sure each dot is centered well and the right colour goes in the right place.
But I definitely love it and as much as working with yarn.

diamond painting is really relaxing and fun.
I prefer the square diamonds as they don't leave those gaps where the color of the canvas shines through. Those colors do not match the diamonds as they are chosen for good contrast. I did a few paintings with round diamonds but I will not hang them. I am now working on one with square diamonds. a tropical waterfall with a wound wooden stair next to it, 60 cm x 180 cm (24" x 70") which is meant for the bathroom door.

OMG! I'm into everything fiber related....I'm passionate about spinning, knitting, dyeing, crocheting, etc. and on a whim I recently decided to try diamond painting. Now im hooked! I'm on my third painting...about to kit up my fourth and my knitting is suffering terribly. Actually, all of my artistic, fibery pursuits are being neglected. I'm hoping that the newness and excitement of diamond painting will wear off and I can get back to my true loves. If nothing else, I would like to divide my time more equally between my crafts because I don't want to waste the twelve diamond paintings and all of the acessories that I've already purchased to complete after I finish my current one. I have a problem.

Loved this video. I have been diamond painting since November 2018. I crochet, knit a little & loom knit. Love the yarn 🧶 arts. Crochet is my go to & I have been doing that for at around 40 years. So happy that you are giving Diamond Painting a try. I love it & Diamond Art Club is one of my favorite diamond painting sellers. Tools & accessories are fun to shop for & collect. I work in sections. I also kit up the drills into containers labeling them prior to beginning a project. Welcome & enjoy the journey.

I am a crocheter. Yes, enjoy diamond painting too. Just finished my 3rd. Medium sized round kits. I have a large square kit but round is easier to do. Partial kits are easy too. Recommend sealing glue so they do not collect dust as bad. I have release papers, a led pad and travel kit to hold the diamonds on the way. Storage boxes from hardware stores are great cost effective storage. I just set up my 4th, 5th and 6th kits with DMC color-coded stickers. Washie tape the edge of canvas and also to hold in place on flat surface.

Thank you for sharing this video!!! It's so kool to witness your trying this very addictive craft! :) I've been knitting and crocheting from about age 4, and love both! Diamond painting has become another addiction for me LOL I would suggest that when you open up your kit, you go thru and do an inventory of your colors, to make sure you have all of them. Diamond Art Club is an excellent company, and if you find you're missing a color, you only need to contact them, and they will send you that color. May I also suggest that you 'kit up' each drill color, for the canvas? That way, when you need the next drill color, its already in the appropriate container. As folks have mentioned, the washi tape is helpful to place on the adhesive that is around the edge of the canvas. For large blocks of color, there is the way of placing the drills in a checker board pattern, which is very satisfying. Have fun with the process, and it is one of the most relaxing crafts! Can't wait to see your progress! :)

So fun to see you discover things by just doing it instead of researching a bunch ahead of time like I did before starting in on the kit I bought. Also such a bold move to purchase two high-end expensive large kits for your first time doing it! I went cheap, small Amazon kit and it turned out great. Fun hobby!

I sew and have cross stitched. I can’t seem to paint well but find this calming and easy though super time consuming. Just keep telling myself, there’s no hurry and no rush to get it done right now. Would allow a very long time if I were gifting this. I am working on a 12” x 16” kit and am half done with about 12 hours in so far. Don’t have much luck with the bigger placers so it’s one at a time for me.

I had been on a search for something to do to ignite some craft passion for a few yearswithno luck. During covid I discovered diamond painting and love it. I find it relaxing and a stress relief. You chose an excellent company to start with! My first was a small diamond painting from Amazon with a lot of detail. Because of its small size I couldn't even make out what it was supposed to when I completed it 😅 From diamond painting TH-camrs I obtained such valuable info to make it even more enjoyable. I have to say I'm very impressed at the size you have started as your first one. I think you will find it easier if you put your drills into the bottles and label them before you start. When I'm doing a new painting I usually do this the day before depending on the size.

I am a doer of most crafts but primarily knitting and crocheting. I have done 4 diamond paintings. 3 were kid ones and the other was an adult one. I bought all if them on Amazon. I wanted to try it on kid ones before I jumped into adult ones. I have many granddaughters so all fine with the kid ones. The adult one was for my grandson. It was supposed to be a picture of space with a planet and nebula. What I learned from those 4 projects was so valuable. But the main thing is. As I explained to my husband, each drill represents what would be a pixel in a photo. So if I am going to do small diamond paintings, the less detail the clearer the picture will be. The kid ones were cartoonish if unicorn is, so they worked out very well in their 8x8 picture.
Also, when they give you the size of the canvas, that is NOT the size of the actual painting. My cartoon ones came with frames, so those were easy. The adult one didn’t, so to find a frame to fit the canvas with the white sides top and bottom cut out was impossible. I cut the painting down to 9x9, which actually made it look better.
So on my next one, I am not going to cut the side, but paint them so that they fit in a frame better, if that makes sense.

I was given a kit for Christmas. I’m happy to see another newbie before I start. I’m afraid the drills will be too small for me to handle or even see. I’m 71, an artist in several media. I’m not sure I want to get involved in, or have time for another hobby but I’m game to try it once. This is so exciting seeing you see everything for the first time I love it! So the silver thing that you didnt know what it was is called a coverminder, there should be 2 magnets one attatched to the object and the other you can take on and off, its used to hold the plastic back on your canvas while working on it so you dont have to keep holding it out the way or it keep falling on your work area. Just pull the plastic back put the cute side of the magnet on top and put the loose magnet on the backside of the canvas to it connects to the magnets and holds there in that spot. I hope you understand what im trying to say haha, and some people use washi tape to section off your canvas into square work sections. or you can use it to tape up the border of the canvas because if you notice there is a bit of excess over glue that exceeds past the picture area so its sticky, so if you tape that area then hair or dust or fuzz wont stick to it and you can keep the border of the picture clean. I hope this helps :)

    • @unculturedpurls

The coverminder makes total sense! Thanks for the explanation! I was wishing I had something to hold back the plastic for me, so that will be perfect. 😊

ive been a latch hook rug crafter for 35 yrs. i love it. its the only craft i ever fully grasped lol. but ive been watching a lot of yt videos on this craft and im interested in trying it out myself. one advantage i have is that latch hook rugs use the same chart system. symbols for colors and what color goes where. but thats the only advantage i have. im definitely going to give it a shot at some point for sure 👍👍

I crochet and I do decorative painting I discovered diamond painting and decided to give it a try and I love it I watched ( Diamond Grandma ) on You tube and I clearly was hooked I have a
few paintings that I have to do .. have two I am working on now,,, I buy on( Everydayedeals) or Amazon as a rule nothing too costly mostly 30x40 have just one bigger 45x80 .... That holds the cover up while you are painting The( cover minder )put magnet underneath the canvas and the cover minder on the plastic....

    This was highly entertaining! 💛
Thank you for sharing your first time diamond painting with us! One tip I would like to give you. The plastic can only go on the canvas (on the glue) on its correct side. So if you peel the whole thing off, perchance, be careful to replace it on the correct side. Or else it will be VERY stuck to the canvas.
    Happy Diamond Painting!! 😁

Yes, I was a knitter before I discovered diamond painting. I do enjoy it. I prefer it to paint by numbers. I also prefer square drills over the round ones.

I just started diamond painting, myself. I am starting with very inexpensive pieces. My Diamond Art club are small with circular diamonds. I’m going to do square diamonds, later. I used to do needlepoint which also can use cross stitch yarn. I also have been making beaded items for myself and my dolls. But, those aren’t professional. I am addicted to diamond painting. My kits from Amazon are generic. So, those are not really art work. I start out very small. I also have to practice single placing, which I find relaxing. Multi placing is not only difficult with my hand/eye coordination problems, but it is stressful. So, I am going to go slow and live the single placing life. My suggestion is to get some small pieces off of Amazon and then complete the Diamond Art Club to prevent getting overwhelmed. If you make a mistake on the Amazon one, it’s only $4-12. I started out making small notebooks and coasters. I’m not even ready for the big canvases, yet. You are doing fantastic to be able to do big ones and have gotten a quick start to the craft. I have been doing it for a month and am a newbie.

I do crochet, but diamond painting has taken over my time. I watched your whole video, and there were so many times I thought, oh, there is just such a better and faster way to do that. You said you watched some Diamond and Washi videos. She should have some instructional videos. Also, I recommend Mrs. Coffee, and Emeralds and Fairy Lights. My big suggestion is to get a container kit from Amazon that holds 60 colors, and get some kind of system going. Usually people put all their diamonds in the containers and label everything, and then you can really get moving with things. All that being said, my first kit was from Amazon, and ended up in the garbage. I hated it. Now I usually buy from Diamond Art Club. Glad you did the rounds first though :)

Dear Lucy: Thank you ahead of time for previewing diamond painting. As I said in my previous message I have not tried this craft. I too live in a small apartment, so my space is limited. I also have vision issues, and arthritis in my hands. Maybe these realities are unfortunate limits to my ability to enjoy diamond painting without a whole lot of other aids. I will recommend this craft to my daughter, however, because it looks like a lot of fun. Thanks again. In friendship, Mary Lou.

The best way to help you not get overwhelmed, is to get yourself some coverpaper or some parchment paper. NOT WAX PAPER. That will ruin your canvase. But take the plastic off the canvas and place the parchment paper over the whole canvas and cut out square sections each the same size and just work that one area until it done and then work each section. Otherwise, your doing great. And the magnet is what we call a cover minder, it holds the plactic back while your working on your canvas. Good luck and would love to see the finished canvas.

The silver thing with the magnets is called a cover minder. You use it to hold the plastic back while you work. The magnet not glued to the pretty part goes behind the canvas and the pretty part goes on top.

🤔 Do the drills have a right and wrong side?

    • @unculturedpurls
      @unculturedpurls  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes they do! One side is flat to stick to the canvas and the other side is shaped like a dome.
