So Slugterra is the only line of defense which is why the surface should never know about Slugterra or else the two world could fall and stuff. And to answer your question properly: Slugs actually like being fired. They like to transform, so it's not really forcing them to unless they are being forced into battling someone they like. Kids adopt slugs as their little pets to when they grow older will have a greater connection with them. Technically, they don't have guns down in Slugterra, they use slugs as ammo and of offense and deffense so;
