  • Full Q & A from Andrew from Freenote Cloth is below!
    Be sure to subscribe and check out my other videos if you haven't yet! The Freenote Cloth RJ2 Shearling Lined Denim Jacket is quite a mouth full but idk what I'd rather have my mouth full of.........anyways. How does this compare to the Levi's sherpa denim jacket? It weighs like 90 more lbs and the denim feels gorgeous comparatively!
    Raw denim shearling lined selvege denim jacket.
    Hey Andrew!
    Hope all is well. Currently wearing my RJ2 and loving it. Anyways as I mentioned on Instagram I’d love to ask you a few questions about the jacket and your inspirations behind it + a few design questions.
    1. What was your inspiration/what made you want a denim jacket with a real shearling lining?
    This piece was really about warmth. We had developed this silhouette several year back but using the shearling which is warmer than down and wool really combined nicely with the 20 ounce denim.
    2. Have you done any “testing” of the jacket in cold weather? How has it fared?
    Absolutely. All of our jackets are tested usually about a year in advance of the production release. We tested this jacket during the winter of 2018 in Utah. Maybe about a dozen wears or so in temps from 0-30 degrees.
    3. What were your thoughts on lining the sleeves with the satin lining and not shearling or polyester fill insulation?
    The 20 ounce denim is already plenty warm and the shearling just wasn’t needed in the sleeves. The satin lining provides easy entry as well which makes this a very comfortable jacket.
    4. Are there any specific design aspects of the jacket you are very proud of in particular? Is there a functional purpose behind the riveted pleat (one of my favorite details)
    We really like the fit. The jacket became a functional piece because it is so warm but the fit is second to none. Fitting a 20 ounce denim jacket with body lined shearling can be a tough task.
    5. Would you consider making the RJ2 with different linings (polyester, down, wool, etc.) with different linings for a more affordable price? (I think down would be insanely cool)
    We have made the RJ2 in a waxed canvas in the past but we think we might just roll with this one for the next few years.
    6. Any plans for other extreme warm gear/will there be an RJ2 Mark II? (Updated changed model)
    We have some Mackinaws coming out later this winter. A longer cut jacket that can be worn as an overcoat.
    7. Anything you want to add in general? Tips? (Don’t wash, sizing, etc.)
    Definitely do not wash and spot clean. Fits pretty true to size and is very comfortable.
    Thanks!!!!

    Great video! Thermal layering is key. I always wear a zip-up fleece under my denim jacket on extra cold days. Some slightly-oversized, thick sherpa fleeces will even look good over a slim denim jacket. My go-to stylish fleeces are from Patagonia (Retro-X), Penfield (Mattawa), The North Face (Denali or Glacier), Mountain Equipment (Litmus), and Columbia (Fast Trek II or Back Bowl). Check em out!

      @@TheIronSnail that jacket really worth $900? Thats leather jacket pricing. Can't believe the front pockets aren't flannel or sherpa lined since its meant to be a cold weather jacket.

    • @TheIronSnail
      @TheIronSnail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say yes just because it’s basically a leather vest inside of a denim jacket! I think it’d be a steal at $750 but $900 isn’t CRAAZY but flannel pockets and an insulated sleeve for me would make it a $1000 jackwt

    Small looks like it fits super well. Mind me asking height/weight? I’ve purchased a couple Freenote jackets in Size M, found the S to be a little too tight around the arms/chest.

  • @DDIAZ-we4dz

    i imagine that down really only has wool beat just because of the heft of the loft. if you had 2 jackets, one wool and one down, both of equal loft, do you still think down would be warmer than wool? ive seen down jackets with like 2 inches of loft. i cant imagine how 2 inches of wool would feel.

    • @TheIronSnail
      @TheIronSnail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're totally right! I bet same loft ~ relatively same warmth but two inches of wool I feel like is a board hahaha

    This is a great video, but I am not a fan of the jacket. In my view, collars for work/trucker jackets should be made out of denim, twill or corduroy. Borg/sherpa collars are too shapeless for my taste.
