It is cool to see you have a really old 60. I've watched alot of videos on how to break down the 60 but this is the first one that showed me how to disengage the hammer spring without inserting a paper clip in the little hole on what I'll call the hammer spring strut. It also shows me should the need ever arise, how to replace the hammer spring itself without popping everything apart. I will certainly bookmark this video for future reference.
I have 4 Marlin Glenfield 60's and 1 Marlin 60. I have owned one of the Glenfield's since 1973. Great guns.
Thank you for this video I wanted my grandson to see how to change buffer recoil on his Marlin model 60 and he mastered it ! Thanks to your excellent video 👍🏼
Thanks a million for your help......Best, clear, easiest, practical info on youtube!!!! Thanks for taking time to help! Jeff in OK
What are the odds of this: my brother has a 1981 marlin (West Point with the same squirrel stock as the one in this video) 22, and I have a newer model 60. We shot them both today, and both operated perfectly for around 30 rounds. Then they both started jamming. I thought we just needed to deep clean them, but BOTH had broken buffers when we took them apart!
I hope you find this video helpful. If you haven't found replacement parts yet here are the ones we ordered | eBay

@@easttennesseetacticalarms6831 Thanks, the video was very helpful. I already ordered them, or I would buy them from you. FYI: your link appears to be broken. There is a fella that commented seven days ago on this video, and he’s looking for the buffer. He said he can’t find them. Maybe fix the link and reply to him. I looked for the part in the description of this video before I purchased them and didn’t see it, so maybe add the link there too 👍
Ok glad you got some and thanks for letting me know about the guy looking I'll check the link and give it to him. We try to respond to everyone must have missed that one
Thanks learned something new. I have a 2nd gen model 60 thats developed a feed problem. Everything looks and feels right but the round overshoots the barrel and jams. Ejection is not always affected. Any suggestions?
There is a lot of good information here, and the resolution and clarity are visually excellent.
I do have concern about using household screwdrivers to do gunsmithing. Eventually, it always leads to damaged screwheads
Which are visually unappealing and significantly reduce value of the gun. When removing those screws your screwdriver was slipping and sliding all around, which could have resulted in scratching the reciever.
A proper fitting gunsmithing bit for the driver would avoid that. They are worth the money.
Otherwise an excellent video. Im glad to see other people such as yourself appreciate Marlin rifles.
I have a model 99 (samething as the 60, but with black walnut stock), and a 39A.
Why disassemble It? I used a punch to remove the pin holding the buffer in. It takes 5 minutes to replace it this way. The only difficulty is getting the pin back in because it has a flare on one end and the other end is flat and sometimes does not line up with the hole properly. I usually put a small bevel on the end of the pin to help guide it bacck in.
I’m trying your method next
@@rangerat4200 it’s really easy. And quick.
I will have to try that on the next one and do a video of it
learn to clean it took apart completely
Excellent video, informative and patiently taught.
Thank you
Thanks helped a ton! Almost tried to hammer out the pin individually 😂
glad this helped!
I did as well. Used tow orking on handguns with roll pins I guess.😃
Thank-you very much for the video, it was quite helpful, The camera resolution was excellant.
My recoil buffer is cracked so I will be doing this soon.
The only issue I've had with the model 60 is feeding. It alway fed CCI mini mags and stingers just fine but federal and some others it just dont like. It seems that the recoil spring is too strong and the weaker rounds just can't send the bolt back far enough.
Own 2 glenfield model 60s but different decades
Great video, straight to the task at hand.can’t ty enough
Numrich has a good aftermarket buffer that seems to last a bit longer than stock.
I’d add why not also get a spring kit from from JP custom while it’s apart
Useful information.
Glad it helped
Does buffer damage cause cycling issues, stove pipe, eject problems? Thanks WO.
I want to thank you for this video, I have book marked it for further reference. I have one made in 83. There's no way I'd ever try and break one of these down without watching a video on it and the only time I did was watching a video of a kid, he couldn't have been over 14 if that doing it. He did it in a way that even a non mechanically inclined person like myself was able to follow. Problem is I can't find the video now so do you have a video on how to replace the other parts and springs in the lower as well?
WHAT DOES THE BUFFER DO ??????
ok i see thank you for the info !!!!@@JFK-co4fq
@@JFK-co4fqthe buffer failed in my 1966 Glenfield Model 60... Just replaced it, MCarbo Trigger Kit and high velocity recoil spring... Didn't think to check if it was still covered under warranty 🫤
Awesome video got my replies thank you
Thank cause fuckin a this would’ve been rocket science without this
Where y'all find a buffer? I can't find them
eBay, I just ordered some for the pre 1981 models, and for post 1981.
Make sure you order the right one. Different size pins that go through the buffer pre/post 1981. If you don’t know when it was made, there is a website where you can enter the serial number and get the year.
Sorry I had missed this comment here is the link to the ones we used in the video. New Soft TPU | eBay

If you use a paper clip in the hole on the hammer strut you will not need to force the spring back in place. There is another video by arrowdodger that shows exactly what to do. th-cam.com/video/3oF8QHgVzH8/w-d-xo.html
Ever work on savage model 86d?
I'm out here near Wartburg. What city are yall close to?
Weird dude. I live in Wartburg.
Thanks man.
good work
Thank you sir
Have 2 bothe jam. I think it's because the buffer is cracked. Waiting on parts
Where did you find a buffer?
ebay. 2 for 9 dollars shipped
3D printed
Those 3d printed buffers will shatter upon use. Bought a couple, shot about half a box of rounds, opened up the rifle to clean, nothing but pieces.
*I would not recommend using them*
Too much eyeball on the gun, it's distracting, but useful
Thanks for the post
the 3D print should be stronger
I wonder if you had a buffer made out of brass you wouldn't have to worry about this again? Great gun but weak spot! Do not shoot stingers it's hard on buffer!
