Received my Marlin 60 from Buds (180 days to pay) yesterday. My son was against purchasing it. When he saw it his mind changed. I am handy with gun Disas/assy as I have a small arsenal and like detailed cleaning after target practice but decided to check a video to prevent first time mistakes as it came with no traces of lubrication the opposite as my M20P 20 caliber ARMSCOR (cheap but very accurate) that had oil from barrel to stock. Lubricated the Marlin with INOX mx3, excellent lubricant. Your video is the kind of video I like, simple helpful and to the point. Personally I only use gun powder removal an INOX mx3. Excess lubrication I remove with small napkins sold for gun cleaning and small towels. Thanks and have a nice day.

So the model 60 and 70 actually share the same breach! That hole where the shells come out is present on the breach of the model 70, which is mag fed instead of tube fed. Pretty cool!
Great video, perfect photography and verbal explanation. I have the same model, bought it in the early '80s. The recoil spring is easy to damage so what is a person to do? Buy a couple extras and watch this video carefully. It's that simple. I know things change in folks' lives and it does take time to produce a video but I subbed just in case you find time one day to do videos again.
Nice Video, Just some updates on New Marlins.. Bought one about 2 months ago. Put it on the bench to sight it in, and about 15 rounds in, the take down screw on the back of the trigger guard fell out on the bench. Unloaded and investigated and found the entire back of the trigger guard was cracked and actually in 2 pieces. I had not taken it apart yet so it must have been over torqued at the factory. It wasn't noticeable when i purchased it, but the crack was evident after some handling and the 15 rounds. I called Marlin (Remington), they apologized and took it under warranty. They would have just shipped a new part but they were out of stock. So 6 weeks later I'm still waiting. Called the servicing Gun Smith ( no it didn't go back to Remington or Marlin - It went to an authorized repair shop about 250 miles from me), He is still waiting on the trigger guard which is on back order, and apparently he sees this a lot with the Model 60. He said the trigger guard is not a true polymer, more of a cheap plastic and has an offset support in the stock which can be over torqued and broken easily. He's seen them come straight out of the box from Marlin in pieces. So, the issue now is, when I get it back, do I keep it or trade it for better quality? If I keep it, it'll run me about $90 for a replacement (aluminum trigger guard, replacement Trigger, and New front site blade to replace that crappy orange piece of plastic). Also the new screws on the SS version have Torques Screws instead of the straight slot or phillips screws they've used in the past.
You really know what you are doing. I bent my recoil spring and another is on order. Hope this video can prevent further complications. Thanks for sharing.
I really appreciate your video. I bought one of these guns from Wally World as a Christmas present to myself 😉 and haven't cleaned it since (I haven't shot it that much either). Anyway, a buddy and me put about 300 rds thru it the other day just plinkin and it got absolutely filthy. This video helped me a bunch and you are right about that first assembly that comes out, I wouldn't touch that thing for nothin. I did use my air compressor to blow out the debris though and that seemed to do the trick. Anyway, sorry to ramble. It's men like you that keep our second amendment alive by helping the rest of us keep our second amendment tools in good working condition. many thanks and God bless. 👍👍👍👍👍
Pardner, if you haven't done so already invest in a set of gunsmithing drivers so you don't bugger up your screws. Been there, done that then I purchased a B-Square Professional Gunsmith Screwdriver Kit. You will be glad you did!
I just spray the heck out of the trigger group with carb cleaner, then spray it down with wd-40 and dry it up I little with a rag , the only thing that needs oil on that gun is the bolt and a dab on the feed ramp, it get's clean as new and I never have a problem on the range. it takes seconds to clean I do it every time I use the rifle cause 22.cal is a dirty round. I took the group apart one time to change out a spring , and said to my self never again that's why I clean it with carb cleaner now , plus like I said it cleans it like brand new.
we shot ours for the first time yesterday. after watching this, i agree. take the trigger assembly out, spray it down, wipe it clean, and reassemble. No need to remove the bolt at all. I sprayed some ballistol down the barrel, ran a patch through it, and called it done. Ill take it apart after 500rds.

heyman thanks i dissasembled mine and put it back together then went to rack the slide ad it would not chamber fully fithout me forcing it then i watched this vid and took it back apart and i bent my recoil spring so i fixed it and was carful by the spring on the guide and put the bolt back in like u did and it chamberd flawlessly thanks
For those of you who have damaged or broken your recoil spring as I have sadly. Mcarbo has a high velocity replacement for it. Once I get mine I'll be extra careful putting it in this time. Picked up a SS with matching scope for $50. I couldn't say no.
I wish I had the stainless version. Marlin's been like an orphan these past few years........the "Remlin" years since 2007.....now the "Ruglin" years are about to begin. I think Ruger will give the Marlin brand the respect it deserves. The Model 60 will likely be produced in New Hampshire, right beside the 10/22. All the centerfire Marlins (lever action) will be made in North Carolina, where Ruger produces the American bolt action rifle and AR-15s. Both these plants are state of the art. Very anal about quality control, which is good for the customer.
I never took it apart un till this morning to clean it and I couldn't get the bottom of the receiver on until I locked the firing pin hammer back then it slide sin nicely then I pu it back together and distressed the firing pin
you are putting it back together wrong, you MUST pull the bolt back before you insert the action assembly, otherwise you risk bending the extraction pin and it will start jamming up. Don't worry though, it is an easy fix, look up nickel trick.
I figured it out when I just pulled the bolt back and inserted the action assembly. But i didn’t do that for at least two times and the bolt wouldn’t move back. Did i risk damaging anything? Cause I dry-fired it once and it seems to work.

Great video I have a Model 60 SB stainless and it is by far the most accurate 22 LR out of the box. Are you supposed to lube any of these parts after dis assembly and cleaning?
LIGHTLY oil the bolt once you have the rifle reassembled. I put a little oil on the side and the upper part of the bolt, and then cycle the action 10 - 15 times to get an even coat. I also use a Remington oil wipe and wipe down the entire outside of the gun. You don't want to put a lot of oil in the receiver because 22LR is a rimfire cartridge and rimfire cartridges especially 22LR are very dirty to shoot. They produce a lot of GSR (gun shot residue/unburnt powder) which sticks to the oil. Dirt also sticks to the oil so the more oil you have in the inner receiver area, the quicker the gun will get dirty and start building up material that can affect how smoothly the gun operates and can eventually cause feeding issues.
I am having trouble getting the bottome assembly back in. It will slide back in but will not fall back in place to put the pin in. I tried to pull the bolt back then insert and it went in like a dream but now the bolt will not shut. The gun fired beautifully all day today and had no visible broken parts upon cleaning. Please help!

If this is the piece with the hammer on it that strikes the pin what you do is slide that nipple down and insert it in the receiver then put the wood back on and pull the trigger unloaded of course to distress the firing pin and dry fire it
Martin Ramos I have the same problem. I bent the recoil spring trying to reassemble mine after cleaning it. I got two new springs from Brownell's. Bent the first one trying to get it in. The vids I've watched show how easy it is to get it back together, but I don't want to bend the second spring. Just like yours, mine is just sitting here in pieces.
Are you asking if it would damage the firing pin if you dry fire it? If that's what you are asking, yes it will over time. The firing pin will either get brittle and snap from crystallization from the continued vibration of firing on an empty chamber or it will mushroom at the end from impacting the face of the chamber. Either way, don't continually dry fire any rimfire firearm especially revolvers
This looks easier than the Mossberg plinkster I had. Does anyone know which .22 semi-auto is the easiest to work on? How does this compare to the Ruger 10/22 for ease of assembly?
Was just given a Mod 60 (1983) The feed tube will twist as if it is loose. Is this standard for a gun with this age? Have not fired it yet and it will require a complete cleaning(gummed up from sitting all these years) Is this an issue to worry about. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Yours has a few extra screws then mine , cool vid😎 mine didn't just set back in either had to actually charge it while putting the bottom back in

I have Marlin Glenfield Model 60. The mag tube was loose, which made the front sight off center. What's the best way to make the front sight true?
my middle takedown screw won't fit now

Figured out the reassembly is done wrong. I needed to pull the bolt all the way back before putting the action housing back in...
Refer to arrowdodger's nickel test. The bolt needs to be locked rear ward so as NOT to bend the ejector wire.
